Unfortunately the ceiling of the garage is where I store my kayak so there's no room there. Fortunately I only have like 8 rods. I've seen people use the inside of the garage door as a place to mount rod holders. Out of the way and doesn't inhibit the action of the door at all.

Years ago dad just took 2 2x4s and put a bunch of oversized screw in hooks on each board. Screwed the boards to the studs in the ceiling and that's how the rods got hung. LFG's way is probably cheaper but dad did a good job.

Id give up my front seat in Hell to tangle with black crappie that size. Ive fished Ky Lake with a guide and several of the large lakes in southern WI with my son, including Lake Michigan, and never approached that size.

You're right, the ambiance is great having them up high. I would have taken a different approach and used extra large Park Took rubber storage hooks. These would work equally well on the ceiling or wall! Good work.

It look like MDF you were using. And yes you got to be careful using pocket holes with that stuff. I would put another pocket hole on the opposite side in between the two pocket holes you put in there already
