I have to admit, I was reluctant to believe this at first. I have learned that I was wrong and this video IS spot on. My first attempt for snook around piers was with a M 76 rod paired with 4000 reel & 15# test. failed and snook won. Second attempt was with MH 8 rod paired with 5000 reel & 20#. failed again. Third attempt was H 8 rod paired with 6000 reel & 30# test. failed agin. I then pull out my 50-100 class rod paired with conventional reel and 65# braid and was broke off 7 times yesterday. Im buying a TI rod next month with a new tranx! Thanks Vic & Ben and dont worry about the naysayers cuz you two are correct!

Lmao all these guys talking about overkill. You havent hooked a big snook around structure yet. In open water, anyone could land a 30# snook on a barbie rod with the drag set. If you are fishing open water this video isnt for you. I remember this one spot I lost 10 monster snook in a row. I had to go heavier and heaver until I could keep them out of the pilings. These tips are for real snook, not the 30 and under juvies.

Hey man I'm from the CA Bay area and usually fish the bay for striped bass and halibut. I noticed on the surf however that fisherman almost never used baitcasters. I know there are efficiency related reasons as to why but do you think a 300 sized low profile baitcaster would work? Any tips and suggestions would be appreciated, or if you have any recommendations for which baitcaster you would use on the surf, thanks man!

I'm right handed and use left hand bait caster too. I was beginning to think I was the only one. I've had tackle shops almost tell me to leave the store when I've asked if they had a particular reel for left hand. I've even had one tell me no manufacture makes LH conventional reels. lol I usually end up ordering them directly from the mfg.

The Tackle Industries rods are top notch. Just a heads up though, Tackle Industries is coming out with the Vexan line of saltwater rods
I use them for FW and SW, big cats and musky to snook and medium sized shark and they handle everything.
The 2 piece versions are one of the best travel rod options available too.

Do you think a Shimano Teramar X-Heavy 15-40 8ft rod could handle these monster snook near structure? I'm putting 65 LB braid on a 10000 Saragosa real. Does that sounds like it would work fairly well? I've learned so much from watching your videos. Thanks Ben & Vic!

I don't know how you're catching snook on braid! When I was down in Florida fishing in the gulf inlets I had to use florocarbon because they wouldn't touch my bait until I switched line! Snook are smart and can see braid and mono. They can't see florocarbon.

These combos seem like complete overkill. I snook fish with a 4000 penn clash on a 7ft st croix. My tarpon setup is a spinfisher 6500 on a 8ft MH st croix. I'm not a fan of horsing a big snook of the bottom like it's a jewfish or something.
