Intel's 10900K Stock Problem: Intel i9-10850K CPU Review & Benchmarks

Intel's 10900K is barely available, and now the 10850K has landed around the same price but with 100MHz lower clocks. We're reviewing & benchmarking the i9-10850K vs. 10900K, 3900X, & more. The new Intel Core i9-10850K CPU is a 10-core, 20-thread part that is effectively the same as an Intel i9-10900K, which we previously reviewed, except 100MHz slower. In our experience thus far, with a limited sample size, there is no meaningful difference in overclocking behavior between the two units; it is possible that a difference emerges somewhere, but unlikely that it will be meaningful. 100MHz isn't much, so we're benchmarking these two to see how they perform. If you can't find a 10900K in stock, the 10850K may be the primary alternative -- and this piece will help guide you toward decisions as to which CPU is the best gaming CPU in 2020 (so far), and alternatively, toward which AMD Ryzen CPU might be the best choice for non-gaming workloads.

Steve's value talk here is quite a bit off I have a 10900k and have been tracking their costs from authorized retailers since the beginning.
10900k lowest cost anywhere was 529.99 with Newegg starting there but moving to 549.99 within a week or so and have stayed there with every restock since. B&H photo started at 599.99 and has remained there since the beginning.
If you're going to focus so much on the value maybe actually have FACTS to back it up Ive been paying attention and the costs you quote are quite a bit off a 10900k NEVER sold for 500 anywhere.
A 10850k that I've seen as low as 485.99 is a great deal even at 499.99 vs the ACTUAL costs of a 10900k not these theoretical cost you've come up with.
Why don't you take a poll of what 10900k owners paid for their chips I can bet very little to none paid less than 529.99

Lots of wonderful options for January but if you want to build a nice PC now for imminent games, it is horrible and full of disappointment. You can not get a 10900, or you can get a 10850 that feels bad due to the published frequencies and feels too high relative to 10900 list price, or you can buy a 3950x for _full_ price less than a month before the superior 4950x is announced. (although who knows how much more it will cost and when it will actually be available.) And you can't get a 3080/90 video card either. If the 10850 had AMD-is-kicking-our-butt discounts or the 3950x had end-of-model-year discounts, I could make do.
Yet another reason to be eager for 2020 to be over.

Did anyone consider there might be more 10900k's available if there wasn't so many 10900KF and 10850K's?
If 20,000 viable (for overclicking use with igpu's) 10 core dies are produced per day......and instead of putting them all to be 10900k's you instead allocate half to become 10850k's that doesnt make it easier to buy a 10c-K part because the number being produced is the same. Instead you now have 10,000 chips being 10850Ks and 10,000 being labeled 10900Ks.
If 1Milion bottles of fanta per month are made but every-other-bottle has its label changed to FantaX that doesnt mean more is available.

I'm going crazy when you quoting prices.... You don't want to know how much those cost in the EU. Just for comparison 3700X costs 350 where I live... I paid a little more since I bought it at a local shop. I didn't even bother looking at Intel prices :D Well I just did i9 9900K is 600 . Well at least the food and utilities are cheap.

It's almost 2021, 8k TV's are reality, yet we test 500 USD and higher CPU's on 1080p Medium. Even if this is done to show the CPU constraint, what of it ? why 1080p? To me this information is as unrelevant as 480p or 720p, at least on 480p we could see 10850k maybe hit 2.000 FPS, interesting.

I found it quite annoying on how often you referenced the price... Mentioning it a few times would've been enough, especially as same price seems to be an us issue (in Germany the 10850 lists 50-70 cheaper on price comparison websites compared to the 900k)

Interestingly here in Aus the AMD X and XT variants are about 25 bucks different last I checked. 3900X was 819 vs the XT at 845 and the XT is in stock where the X is limited.
That said, the X variant never saw that 100 drop like other counties had.

I would like to see some World of Warcraft Benchmarks. There are still a lot of people playing it (new addon is coming). It scales well with single core performance and is more often limited by the cpu and i cant find real good benchmarks online.

Hello guys, Im not from USA, but every time I hear this guy talk, I wonder about his accent. Just curiosity, is his accent southern? Like texan, when we see some movie that they portray a texan guy and exaggerate his accent? Just wondering.
