I'm a playstation fanboy and the only thing that upset me in the original video was saying the power draw of 100 W during menu is high considering it's needlessly fancy . It just so happens that consoles are used with giant screen tvs and the snappy 4K menu is brilliant in my opinion. I know pc mustard race only uses tiny monitors with mandatory matte screen filter that looks like someone smeared j all over it but ps5 isn't made for monitors. Second thing was taking a jab at how long it took to bring the temperature down after shutting the console off (that they had to go home before it could finish). Like does that even matter? I was told it's bad for components to rapidly change temperatures but apparently cooling down to ambient very slowly is somehow a bad thing now. Same patronizing tone is in this video at 11:56 suggesting Sony marketing was spinning the side panels as beneficial to thermals or airflow. No, Sony never said anything about the side panels being important to anything other than esthetics, they never claimed panels have a role in improving thermals, literally no marketing ever referred to the side panels at all. This just shows that pc gamers will always look down on consoles because they're not happy unless they spend over 1000 on a new graphics card every 3 months and waste hours troubleshooting every time they want to play a game.

Regarding the gullibleness of console users:
One of the most appealing aspects of console gaming, at least for me, is that you don't need to worry about which parts to combine, how to configure your system or that you overlook anything. You can just plug the thing in and start gaming.
In the last year, I have also discovered how much fun building a system yourself is but that is so much more effort that it isn't worth it if all you want is to play some games.
And I guess people who aren't interested in the technical details but are purely end users could feel this perceived safety that comes with console gaming slip away when they hear about concerns about temperatures (to be clear, that is not the reviewers fault; Steve is actually trying to hold the manufacturer accountable for design flaws which is the best thing one can do to actually assure the quality console gamers expect).

If you know what you're doing and you want to make your ps5 for sure not overheat just go buy some top quality thermal materials and replace the default ones, I absolutely guarantee it is possible to get better thermals than out of the box doing just that, if you REALLY care about your electronics, self and possessions in general, consider investing in a dehumidifier and an air conditioner, and set the atmosphere of your rooms how you like, and remove particles with filters so you don't need to run around modifying everything you buy to work in your pet hair infested swamp. ( I can only assume conditions must be horrible to warrant modifying your consumer electronics to begin with? )

Some people don't understand how much products are designed by a committee of various people from all areas of a business. It isn't just a matter of giving it to engineers who map out everything perfectly, who do hundreds or thousands of hours of testing and come up with the absolute best end result. As Steve said, cost accountants get involved; marketing gets involved. Managers that think they need to affect some sort of change to be relevant get involved. In other words, most products are produced by a varying degree of people in a group which does include huge egos and can include idiots, no matter how big the company or how competent their engineering team is.

It's probably the same phenomenon as the Apple buyers. They have bought into the idea of Apple/Sony is perfect, their entire ecosystem is a utopia, and they can never possibly do anything wrong as a way to justify the money they spent on this plastic box. So, even the suggestion of there being the slightest issue with the device, by definition, undermines the misguided belief they have placed in this corporation. Therefore, rather than asking themselves if they are were wrong to place their trust in a many billion dollar corporation, they are lashing out at anyone that doesn't agree with whatever it is they brainwashed themselves into believing.

Procurement professional that works with engineers here (just completely different industry) and yes, it is our job to make whatever as cheap as possible for the company and that most often mean the minimum quality solution possible that does the job, whatever that may be. In my company they talk about looking for the best value that is a balance between cost and quality, but I do loose my mind often on how often we're just pushed to go the cheapest possible . So it's not just the engineers that pull their hair out because of such things (yes I do hate my job, in case it's not clear yet, but it does pay the bills).

If the temperatures of memory modules are stable at let's say 90 Celsius working tempeture and max 110 Celsius because the variation of ambient temperature and heavy gaming, dust and so on and not getting higher than 110 Celsius that is more than oke, you don't have to worry about because like was said earlier Power Mosfets gets easily around 130-150 Celsius and still working perfectly no issue at all ! My PS4 PRO with 16nm architecture measured back than gived me constant 80 Celsius by blowing hot air from the back and still working just fine after many years so don't worry about it all !

Yeah fanboyism in the console space is really bizarre. It's just something you really never see in the PC space. Like sure there might be like Nvidia or AMD fanboys, but ultimately most people in the PC space will actually go after these companies when they release flawed products. Outside of getting a paycheck from one of these companies, I'll 100% never understand people who defend these mega corporations just because they make their favorite box, lol.

The typical recommended operating temperatures ranges between 0C to 95C. The reading materials on Micron's GDDR6X don't reveal the TJ Max for the new memory chips so there's still a bit of mystery to the topic. According to Igor, the general consent is around 120C before the GDDR6X chips suffer damage
When i googled gddr6x temps i got this paragraph up top. If this is accurate are the temps not within a margin before damage occurs?
