AMD Waifu GPU: Yeston RX 6700 XT Sakura Review & Tear-Down

We needed a pick-me-up after reviewing prebuilts, so we're looking at a unique video card design for the RX 6700 XT: It's the Yeston Sakura, and it might be apt to call it a waifu card. As usual, the GPU itself is all from a supplier -- AMD, in this instance -- so the board partner (Yeston) doesn't have too much influence on the gaming performance unless things are done very poorly. For board partner reviews, we're much more interested in thermals, noise, build quality, and overall assembly. The Yeston Sakura is shockingly real, despite being something of an obviously low-hanging fruit of a meme. In the current market, you even have built-in excuses to buy it. The front of the card, to its credit, is designed well and has custom molding, good color matching, and an overall unique spin that isn't found in the more common gamer-themed products.

I have to say, I really REALLY like the overall design of this card. And I don't even mean the waifu on the back (she is cute, but more on that later). Purple is my favorite color and I love the lavender and white cooler. I really wish more companies would make interesting designs. It's also IMO a nicer, more laid back and easier to fit into a normal-ish build design than the cute pet card, or that pink waifu card (that clear pink shroud is super tacky, this is miles ahead of that design). As someone who is a huge weeb, thank you to Steve and the rest of the GN crew for taking a serious look at a card like this. I may not be in the market for a 6700XT, but if I were and I saw this option, I'd be really happy that a thorough and reputable reviewer like GN could get me some info on the card. As huge of a weeb as I may be, my priorities would still include making sure it does adequately cool itself and perform about as well as any other card with the same chip.
If I had the option between buying a 'normal' GPU and one with an interesting design like this one, I would definitely lean towards this. Aesthetics might not be everyone's highest priority, but I will say it certainly played a roll in the last GPU I purchased - the RTX 2080 FE - which I still think is the best looking GPU I've ever seen. I think at the time, FE cards were priced a bit higher than the partner cards, so I did pay a premium for aesthetics then. And in the case of this waifu card, I probably would be okay paying another 50 or so higher than a normal 6700 XT MSRP.
As far as the waifu print goes, it's a pretty nice picture. Cringy as this may be to some, I think it's pretty tasteful. I don't recognize the character, so my guess is that it's an original design. Which means that while it's a nice picture, it doesn't really do much for me. Still better, or at least more interesting, than all the standard capital G- Gamer cards that are all red and black, and/or covered in RGB with all these angular shapes that looks like a knock-off lambo.
But here's an idea..
While I said I might be willing to pay a small premium for something like this, if Yeston really wants to rake in those weeb dollar , what they need to do is not put A waifu on the back. Put MY waifu on the back. License actual character designs of popular anime girls and weebs will throw money at you, Yeston. You could easily charge a 100 premium on a card like this, or much more on 3080/90 or 68/900 XT tier cards. Imagine how fast a card like this could fly off the shelves if it had Rem, Saber, Kurumi Tokisaki, Senjougahara, etc on it. I'd easily pay an extra 150 to get a card like a 3080 with my favorite character on it.
You guys wouldn't even have to limit it to anime, think of how many people would buy a 6700 XT with their favorite League character on it. Or something like a Dva themed card back when Overwatch came out.
While a cute waifu printed on the back is nice and all, the thing about waifus for most people are really into that stuff, is that a design alone isn't enough to get most people to buy something. If you look at people who collect figures and posters and other merch, it's not usually of some random girl they've never heard of. Most of the time it's characters they are actually invested in, their favorite girls and guys from shows and books and manga and games that really meant something to them. Put one of those on a card, and people will pay big for it. This card here, I wouldn't buy just for the girl on the backplate, but I would for that beautiful cooler. If the licensing is too much of a hassle, I get it. I'm not saying Yeston should stop with the waifus if real characters aren't an option. But if it is, they should explore that option.
[Oh and for the love of all that's holy, quit with perfume. I'd be pissed if my video card made me cough or sneeze or my eyes burn when I took it out of the box. I'd never buy another card from them. I'd probably have to put it outside with a fan on it for a couple days before using it.]

Tip for Yeston: Sell replaceable backplates with different pictures/themes that still fit the rest of the overall card theme of the shroud. Like, a few with different wifus, some with sakura trees and plants, some with animals like cats, and pandas as someone in the comments wanted :3 Then you can buy the card + one or more backplates that you want to go with it - that way there is waifu for those who want that, and pets and plants for those who do prefer that.

Man, I would seriously try to get one of these if it wasn't for the perfume thing. That'll kill me, possibly literally.
I'm glad they aren't just completely baking the card like the last Waifu did, and that the shroud is a more complex design than normal generic shroud, but in glittery barbie pink . It looks a lot nicer, and ... okay, not more distinctive, but more unique.

The anime printed backplate brings back memories of mid-to-late 2000s cards like the 9X00 GT series when the likes of Zotac would put a CG dragon on a sticker on the plastic shroud. I'm glad to see the tradition revived.
Jokes aside this card would look great in the right white case and build. I hope Yeston start selling fully globally some day.

These cards look a lot less generic than all the RGB Christmas light try hard gamer designs. This is less cringy than the generic gamer designs that look like they have been designed for pre-teens.
That said, i prefer a plain professional look. Something that would look like it was designed to be put into a server.

Doom Eternal Card design? Half Life Design? Call of Duty? Battlefield Theme? World of warcraft design? Forza ? Hey just an idea. people might want to buy designs based on their most played game. Heck even some might want to buy GTA 5 Design. even thou that game is full of hackers

Does Steve speak Chinese?
Love his attention to pronunciations and I really like this companies cards, I'm not even a fan of the cute Japanese style, but I do like the attention to detail and the originality, I would love one of those demon cards.

We modeled our magnificent magnolia blades after mother nature. To give you the most natural air flow and sound. (Turns on, screeching noises). Speaks louder MOTHER NATURE HAS REFINED THINGS FOR OVER A BILLION YEARS.

Thanks, I now NEED this in my life..... but I probably get the 6800 variant and the Sakura Case and all the other Sakura stuff on the product page for that card.... they still need to release a Sakura AM4 MB

So, basically it's a pretty decent product... incidentally, the colours here would go well in my other halfs build, not so sure the whole waifu thing would do well but the picture and the flowers would.
