Best CPU Coolers 2021: Air Coolers & Liquid Coolers for AMD and Intel CPUs

This round-up shows benchmarks for the Best CPU Coolers of 2021, including the best air coolers vs. water coolers (AIOs), best coolers for AMD Ryzen, and best for Intel desktop CPUs. This flyover round-up for the end of 2021 looks at the best coolers available right now. That means we're looking for coolers in various categories, following a year of in-depth, intensive reviews of each of the coolers we're evaluating (and more that we haven't published yet). The best CPU coolers for Intel Alder Lake (e.g. 12900K, 12600K, 12700K) and AMD Ryzen (R9 5950X, R9 5900X, R5 5600X) mostly follow the same parameters, and so we'll be looking at noise-normalized thermals, flat-out thermals at full fan speed, mechanical design, and value (budget pricing). If you're upgrading an existing system with a new cooler, this is a great way to reduce the noise level and improve the thermal performance of something like an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or Intel i5-10600K (or similar) CPU. Remember that CPU cooler upgrades often carry forward to new builds, as long as mounting is compatible, and so the metal is rarely wasted if planned right. That means you could benefit from lower noise levels (and more OC headroom) today, then pull it forward to a new build. Testing includes some data on AMD stock coolers to help determine if they're worth using or upgrading.

I m glad you posted this vid. I need some help choosing a cooler. I have a 5600x currently with stock cooler but will be OC ed in the near future. I have crucial ballistix RGB Ram and will be adding 2 more sticks when I start overclocking. Currently have an EVGA 3080 all inside a Corsair 5000D Air case. Which air cooler would be best that fits in my case? This is my first PC build so I m still learning a lot and need to learn a lot more still. Also, with my GPU having 3 8pin plugs how do I order cables from cable mods? I don t know the cable lengths I need in MM or the proper cables to buy, looking at them in person and matching up cables is different than seeing a picture on a screen. I have a Seasonic 850 Focus+ PSU. Any help is greatly appreciated. I enjoy learning things from you all at GN, along with LTT, Paul and Jayz.

I have the Lian Li Galahad 360. Fantastic cooler. Only had 2 issues. Mounting is insanely difficult, the springs are incredibly difficult to torque and connect. Second. I've had the unit about 6 months and one of the 3 radiator fans started rattling at middling RPM. Despite it being a warranty option I decided to put 3 of the Be Quiet High performance fans (2200 RPM, 73CFM) on instead. Performance actually increased (as they are much better fans) and better yet they have no lights on them :). I was a bit surprised that a fan on a pretty expensive cooler would fail in less than 6 months.

I own an Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360. Genuinely great cooler. Bought it after I watched GN s review on it. Would highly recommend it, 10/10. Fans that is comes with are also great. They can be purchased after the cooler, they are called the P12 PWM PST. The fans can also daisy chain which is gr8.

Just starting the video... I was looking for a new cooler.. My corsair aio isn't pushing heat out like before.. Like all things corsair I suppose... Right now I have just locked the clock at 3ghz...its a 4970k but I don't need it for anything intensive.. So it's working OK at 65degrees

the best way is the unifan way. lian li galahad 360 with 6 unifans has the least amount of cables in a push pull setup. looks are subjective. i like the look. obviously more expensive with the fans but cheaper than the corsair 360 units which are a ripoff for less performance

You couldn t ask for more perfect timing. I m so close to finishing my pc build and all I need is the ram and cpu cooler
Edit: Before watching, I have a 10700k and I was planning on getting an nzxt x53 aio but I ve been curious about going the air route

I am way behind the hardware build game so I appreciate the update. Last time I threw a budget cooler at a setup the Coolermaster hyper 212 evo was the standard. How would it stand up now in that budget market against the Vetroo V5?

Great video! Would you consider reviewing lesser known products from brands like ID-COOLING? They are actually selling in Australia and I'd like to know how they compete with similar products considering their competitive pricing.

I'm surprised to not see GN give props to Lian Li's UNIFAN's. Their handling of RGB is amazing as the fans just daisychain together and result in a single cable for RGB. Sure is 100x better than anything any other company is doing.

I love my 3 fan Scythe Fuma 2, I know that its excessive but its never audible over my case fans and GPU. I bought it based on your review, and the chance that it fits within the small-ish clearance in a Lian-Li 011D, it does fit!
