AMD Speedruns Destruction of Goodwill (R5 4500 CPU Review)

AMD's Ryzen 5 4500 CPU is one of the worst releases from AMD that we've benchmarked in years. This is a concerning turn for the company and hopefully isn't the start of a downward spiral. TDR: AMD missed a trick here, these re purposed cpu's should have been branded Athlon or Sempron and priced accordingly but instead have made the flawed choice of branding them under the Ryzen brand and then charging the premium that no longer exists as Intel not only have better chips but are also cheaper, unlike years past where Intel me have been quite anti competetive (see history with bribes to Dell) this time there is no foul play, AMD have sat on ryzen 5000 too long, took too long to release budget options and allowed Intel to leap frog ryzen making ryzen look like FX all over again, Zen 4 has a lot to live up to otherwise AMD can kiss any dreams of getting 50% market share good bye.

This CPU would have only been worth buying for a budget solution for light office work if it were priced to compete with the Celeron or Pentium Gold CPU's in the sub 100 range.
I would say 80 is about as much as you could realistically ask for the R5 4500 if the cooler was included.
AMD would still make a profit at this price since as Steve explains these are repurposed CPU's that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill and at least at that price it wouldn't be a complete embarrassment that makes AMD look bad.
I shudder to think after watching this what the 4100 is going to be like since it's no doubt even worse and also priced way too high.

I just snagged a used 3600 (with bent pins and thermal paste everywhere) this week to upgrade from my 1600 for 170 INCLUDING a B450 Mobo! After bending those pins back in place and cleaning off the thermal paste, I'm glad to see that it's not doing too bad on these charts. #IsurvivedeBay XD AMD should have made this an OEM exclusive cpu that would be acceptable for daily business use.

I'm currently running a 3600. When the review first started I figured that maybe it wasn't a great value by current standards but that it might be a value in-place upgrade. Oh, no. About the only way I can see this being of value is if the price was halved. At least then this would be converting e-waste into something usable at the very low end for budget-focused users. Maybe.

if you made it very cheap and some sort of entry level part then it makes sense but when the price is that expensive its a joke its basically flawed failed faster chips that are being dumped into the market to screw people based on amd's recent return to form status this will only slide amd back into the awful rep re the fx chip days good job amd

Am I the only one who is really confused on why AMD didn't release a Zen 3 based Ryzen 3 processor? I feel like a R3 5100x or R3 5300x would have been much more competitive with the i3 12100f than what we are getting now, and along with the 5600 and 5700x would have been the proper way the flesh out the processor lineup this generation.

You know, you could absolutely build a Disappointment PC of 2022 right now and it's entirely possible that it wouldn't change at the end of the year. That could make for a could for a good video. Do a early revision of it in May or June and then when December rolls around and you build the real thing, we can see what changed, if anything.

This seems like they created a new crappy market segment for a set of CPUs that wouldnt fit into one of their pre-defined bins. I dunno, this clearly isnt for gamers, I dont really see the issue. If you're running the original R1600 this is probably a pretty solid 130 upgrade if your board doesnt support Ryzen 5000

I feel so bad for those who bought the 4500 who couldn't wait for this review cause they thought it's AMD, it's most probably good
For context this CPU costs around 165 in my country after taxes I think and most because of amd hype while the 12100F costs around 126 . It's most definitely clear who wins.
