This video shows how a power supply is supposed to respond when you push it past the power limits. The Gigabyte PSU explodes, but this EVGA 750 GT SuperNova probably won't. This video answers a commonly requested topic from our GBT speedrun: Can you show a power supply that works properly? Well, here it is. This is how a power supply's OPP is supposed to work. And again, as a reminder, we believe there is clearly more wrong with Gigabyte's power supply than just OPP -- that just happens to be an easy way to demonstrate one of its many design flaws. We could run these all day on the 750 GT, but given that there's no clear end in sight when something works properly, we cut it off at about 30 minutes.

You picked a newer, more expensive power supply (140 vs 100 initial price in my region)
You left it much less on the overpowered state. 10 seconds per level vs 20 something in the gigabyte. Almost half in total.
If the power supply shouldn't fail on OPP testing like you do, leave it on 130% for 5 minutes and see what happens.
If it fails in 3+ minutes while the gigabyte fails in two, then your testing is invalid and the gigabyte just happened to have lower specd components, which a consumer using it properly would not meet. It's still a functional product.
There's no difference between the gigabyte and EVGA in safety. Both have similar trip points and both would die when running at 1000W for extended use 5 minutes.
Why is it hard to admit you were wrong and you are embarrassing yourself with this testing?
It seems the gigabyte was a popular product, which explains the higher DOAs on the reviews. Even if the rate of failure is higher, which is also acceptable if small enough.

I have 3 RM750X Gigabyte power supplies. (As well as many other Gigabyte products). I have no fan loyalty - I only pick products based on price/review/availability and personal experience. I could easily live with a company making a bad product - ALL companies can make a bad product - it's how a company handles a poor product that really catches my attention. I would have to say that I am dismayed with how Gigabyte is handling things so far. I am also surprised and disappointed with how Newegg has complicated the issues with the games they are playing. I am truly grateful for the work you guys put into these videos. Looking forward to the follow up on this fiasco. Good luck!

It is posited that the exploding PSUs created a tear in the space time continuum in approximately the year 2017. This in fact lead to the creation of Netflix's Dark . The only way to close the tear is by creating a tesseract through the very explosive Gigabyte PSUs in the first place.
So far the facts are supporting this explanation ... And it is my belief that Steve and Patrick need to be the ones to run as many of Gigabyte's PSUs under normal conditions so that they may self destruct and restore the continuum we live in now.

Love that you guys are doing this to show unbiased real world testing and helps educate people about PSUs and how OPP & how they work in general.
One suggestion: maybe use the stock cables that come with PSU you re testing. I m sure there s a method to it but I think using those cables will bring the whole package of testing together. Maybe look at the gauge of the stock wires, heat shrinks, couplings, etc. Seasonic is what I use and they use 16 gauge wires, no sleeving etc.

I got a seasonic platinum and don't regret it. It has 12 year warranty and I can probably use it for way longer than that. My second older PC has an enermax liberty from 2005 and it still works with zero issues apart from a fan replacement. I don't see the point in saving a few bucks on a cheap PSU considering the amount of risk involved. Low turnover of components saves you a lot more money in the end. Can say the same about fans, cases and monitors.

the convo at 7:50 is something pretty common in the car scene, the 2JZ engine is well known for being over engineered and easily tuneable on stock parts. Its base is about 276 HP but some claim and have demonstrated that it can reach up to 600 HP! Thats insane and the point im trying to make here is while you do get more power and could be marketed as so. Reliablity goes down the drain!!!

question I asked on the last video, what are we basing wattage calcs on from the wall 110/115/120 vac and what amperage at that voltage is consuming vs 220/230/240 vac at what amperage is failure at
because you would only pop shit if were pushing vac out at a lower vac when in fact you a pulling 220/230 off the wall with setting sat on the 110/115 setting

If one wants to be correct, one should also say that any cheap power supply (without OPP) will explode under overpower conditions.
Overpower protection in commercial PSUs is just an innovation which came about 15 years ago.
Anyway, it is always a good idea to be cautious when overloading a PSU --> please avoid when possible!

If you read the comments, you notice a lot of people talking about how great the EVGA customer service is. But even with such praise, I rarely found people saying how good the quality of EVGA products is. Well maybe EVGA has downs in the quality area but made up for great customer service.
