Best Cheap CPU Coolers Benchmarked: Deepcool AK400 Review

The affordable Deepcool AK400 tower cooler is the next in a recent trend of cheap, high-performing CPU air coolers. If you're building a new gaming PC soon, our CPU cooler benchmarks will help you pick the best air cooler (or liquid cooler) for the job. The AK400 air cooler competes vs. the Vetroo V5, Thermalright's Assassin Spirit, and higher-end coolers like the Arctic Freezer 34 Esports.

Whichever method of cooling you choose, the last stage is always 'transfer heat from some metal into the air'. Not only this, but the first stage is always 'transfer heat from your silicon into some metal'.
The only thing that changes are the intermediate stages, generally this involves some fluid, either passively or actively moved, usually in a water cooling system or heat pipes.
Depending on the efficiency of the intermediate stages, you might be better off just putting the heat directly into the metal, then moving that heat into the air.

In my country the AK400 goes for 42 , the AK620 sells for 85 , Fuma2 75 , Esports Duo 49 , NH-U12S Redux 60 . The others aren't available here. I am planning on changing my current s1150 build ( i7-4770k 4.2Ghz+Scythe Katana 4, 16Gb of DDR3 2666mhz TeamGroup Vulcan, Maximus VI Hero, MSI GTX1070 Armor ) someday, my choices being AM4 platform based on R5 5600x or Intel based on i5-12400/12600KF. In this case, the AK400 and Esports Duo would be my best choices, I guess, considering my country's inflated prices.

I would love to see some tests of the cooler designs in isolation of the fans.
Ex: Take one noctua A12X25 and mount it to each cooler, If it will take 2 fans try one then both. Once you have your benchmarks compare it to stock and see if swapping fans makes a significant difference.
Then we can see what cooler is best and put whatever fans we want on it to go with our build.

I suspect good CPU air coolers will have sides closed from now on. It's what Noctua did with their NH-U12A thus giving a medium sized cooler a big cooler performance. That setup kind of needs 2 fans though except it's rather thin to sustain optimal airflow speed and makes it more expensive to produce than budget star Cooler Master Hyper 212.

Hey Steve, a big fan here. Could you please tell us why thermalright has gone? their fake bearing declaration or their junk combustible materials ? the S-FDB they have is neither SONY-Fluid Dynamic Bearing, nor regular FDB.someone said it's just cheap sleeve bearing. Do what you've done on Assassin3 ,that is why we love you.

I got a deepcool gammax 300b cooler...it costed me less than 20 aand i can say that it keeps my i5 10400f below 60C in most cases....for exemple in browsing it stays around 30 and in games around 58-60.
Didn't do any syntetic testing so i have no ideea how much it would go up the heat...but i suppose not thqt much

Thnx again for another informative video. I would be really interested to see a review of the Thermalright Frost Commander 140 and how it stacks up to the higher-end CPU air coolers. I own one and I am really impressed by how well it cools my Ryzen 7 5800X3D, versus my previous dual-fan Noctua NH-U14S..

For an i5-12400 my deepcool gammaxx 400 V2 is doing great job keeping idle temp under 30 and max. Load temp ( 85watt) under 65 and also very silent overall, I hear ac sound in my room and not cpu fan, only if ac is off then i hear mild cpu sound that too when load is above 60%, otherwise whisper quite

I don't know if anyone has done it yet, but has anyone tried taking a cooler of the style as the FUMA 2 and putting both fans on the outside blowing toward the center, instead of in a train? I would like to see test results of doing that vs factory setup vs single fan in the center.

17:58 - What do you mean 28-29 degrees is our room temperature for all of our test ? Aren't you testing with 21 degress ambient temperature? That's what it says below the graphs, right? Is that somehow different to the room temperature, or I'm not getting something right?
