Before you buy: If you're in the market for a 5700 XT, please do realize this. The card's hardware is rock solid, no question about it. BUT, AMD's driver support is abysmal, and if you just go to reddit. com/r/amd and /amdhelp, you will see the abundance of people asking for help around stuttering, crashes, flickering, monitors not turning on. This is NOT because the 5700 is a bad card, it's because AMD's drivers are bad. If you're going to buy this card, you need to know this, because I came from Nvidia, got myself a 5700 after seeing all the raving reviews, yet none of them mentioned how bad your experience will be with drivers. If you're from the Nvidia world, drivers being bad might be foreign to you, it was to me, but now I've switched between 6 different drivers in the 2 weeks I've owned my card. The card destroys RDR 2, BL3 on 1080p, but for certain games, it runs terribly. Once again, be prepared for software issues from AMD if you pick up this card. Otherwise, go nuts. If I could redo it, I'd refund this and pay the premium for a 2070 Super and save myself the headache.

I have an XFX 5700 DD ULTRA (same cooler design as the THICC) flashed to an XT BIOS. The thermals really aren't that bad, once you remove the backplate and extraneous plastic shrouds I saw a drop in temps around 10 to 15C. I was concerned about memory temps, but tightening the screws on the GPU mounts seems to have brought them under 80C at load. My sample happened to have a welded memory plate, and I tested a magnet on the plate which seemed to be made of aluminum I've heard the newer revision THICC II has a copper memory plate. Purchased in January of 2020, they seemed to have resolved most of the issues. My only concern at this point is hotspot temps still get over 90C on heavy load despite core temps being in the mid 70's. Granted, I have a pretty aggressive OC on it at 2100mhz. Other complaint is that the fans they used aren't the quietest and they seem to be slow in ramping up meaning I have to set a very aggressive fan curve to keep up with the temps. Overall, good value for 300 bucks it seems I can match or exceed the performance of most of the XT cards out of the box.

Thank you for making this video (and buying some cards) but this is why i will not give Patreon support. You are on the edge of recommending the Asus TUF RX5700XT which is a total crap card because the PCB is not touching the heatsink properly and thus will overheat and break in a few months. I am happy you did not spend your money on it, but actually you should have tested it and not base your 'promising' on a picture PCB breakdown of buildzoid. Dont get me wrong: i thoroughly enjoy his videos and explanations but he doesnt really test many cards - just talks about PCB based on a picture. If i had bought the Asus TUF then i would have washed USD 450, - now down the drain. I am sure you did check out three Hardware Unboxed videos in which they explain more about this crap Asus TUF. I am going to stick with the Gigabyte RX5700XT: -)

When you were talking about the business case for evaluating cards which makes perfect sense it did make me wonder why on earth you dont do collabs? You have done videos with a few other hardware reviewers, so couldnt you consider getting an entire product stack between you avoiding duplicates as much as possible Then for the immediate reviews you get to do the cards you wanted to do, but for group tests like this you could all take it in turns swapping cards back and forth so that everyone would get to do comparisons for ALL cards or motherboards in a group? It would possibly cut down the purchasing cost for everyone whilst also giving everyone access to far more hardware albeit not on launch day

Pretty much the first video I've ever watched, only ever seen you on Linus' roast, really, although I've known and heard of you. Can I just say, I LOVE you for having slide bars on still images, so I can see if I need to pause to read it all! Why the hell don't all people do that! It makes SO much sense! Also, thank you for an AWESOME review. I've been planning to buy a (non-XT) RX5700 card, and since the thermal solution is the same on both GB cards, I now know exactly what to get!

You stated that you can t keep buying cards because you don t get a lot out of them. Why not resell them after your review? Knock off a few bucks and I m sure that someone like myself would be happy for the discount, while you get most of your money back. It sounds a lot better than racks full of old cards collecting dust. Forgive me if someone else has mentioned it but I only skimmed some of the other replies.

So, it's definitely between the MSI Gaming X and the Sapphire Pulse, and it's so hard to decide! The Gaming X has a higher clock and higher power consumption, at the same thermals and noise, I think it's the one to get, but I've had my mind set on the Pulse as I've owned Sapphire many times with no problems. ARGH! Someone point me to one of these two, or a third option.

Where did you do that tests? I Have a Sapphire Pulse 5700 XT and the GPU Hotspot ( GPU Juction ) getting 106/108c when Im playing BattleRoyale games, Call of Duty Total War, Apex something with unlimited FPS. I dont know what to do anymore. Im just returning that GPU. All othe temperatures are fine: Gpu Edge 70/73 Max Memory - 70-80 Max and VRM - 50-65 Max. GPU JUCTION - 108c MAX!

I Have a Sapphire Pulse 5700 XT and the GPU Hotspot ( GPU Juction ) getting 106/108c when Im playing BattleRoyale games, Call of Duty Total War, Apex something with unlimited FPS. I really wanted to leave Nvidia and purchased a Sapphire Nitro+ OC 5700XT. We can say what we want but AMD drivers are still not state of the art software. The Sapphire is a hell of a beast and run well and silent. But I refunded it because of lack of stability of the drivers. I stick with NV (sadly) but the a huge difference between both brands in terms of drivers optimization.

I was going to get a pulse 5700 xt for 409 because I had good luck with sapphire but when I wanted one those first 2-3 weeks they would go out of stock so fast I couldn't get one and I gave up and bought a 2070 super FE for 499 and got a couple games free to justify it. Definitely looking forward to seeing how they scale up with 5800/5900 series and new architecture
