ooh Cool, the PSU inside that is manufactured by Meanwell. They are one of the more reputable brands of chinese PSUs. Very nice. These are much more expensive thatn you get on the back of an average TV, though I took apart a 65 4K samsung recently that had a very nice PSU in it, so I guess it is a good comparison. Too bad you don't have any better pictures of it, but it looks like a really solid unit. I'd really like to look at teardown photos of the PCBs for analysis. You can see a little of it at 7: 59. I see on the left an x-capacitor, a little LDO that looks like they tried to heatsink to the PCB and it wasn't enough, so they had to get an actual heatsink for, You can see mains power going into the PSU, which then sends DC voltage back down to the main PCB. There's some minor voltage rails off to the right, but the blower appears to be powered from the main supply? Hard to see in the picture. Man I am just loving all the input filtering on the meanwell PSU. That's what you like too see. Anyway that and the presence of phoenix connectors (green bottom right at 7: 42) and other things indicate that this was not optimized for cost, which explains the higher MSRP.

This would actually be really cool if it was done properly. However, I don't think it could be done properly without it being too expensive to be worth it, and requiring games to support it for it to work. Imagine getting blasted with puffs of hot air when firing a gun in a video game, or getting blasted with some high power IR lights when going near a fire in a game. You would need the IR lights to be set up so you could get stereo heat effects, and it would be pretty expensive. Also you would need fans or something blowing cool air so heat doesn't build up to the point you get uncomfortable, and you would need to set up the room so it gets extra AC, otherwise it would be like running a space heater in the room, even during the summer. The only way I could ever see it being practical is in a VR arcade, where the very high costs of the hardware would be offset by the money made by the venue.

Sorry, but this thing is lame. And, they suggest buying a pair? 2, 000 watts? For heat I don't need and I would need to add another breaker in my panel or switch to a laptop. Yes, I added a circuit for a 100 wpc class A power amp - because it is worth it. It puts out heat I do not need, too. But, it sounds great. Now, if they would spew flames and singe the hair on my arms while I play - I would buy that. I love the smell of burning napalm in the morning.

I think that games really need an API for immersive tech, especially VR. If the game had some stock variables that it kept track of and allowed access to (like temperature and wind speed in this example, but many others could be used for VR) you could do a lot more with peripherals like this. Even if it's a great idea and really well designed (questionable, lol) there's just only so much they can do to guess what's actually happening in games

Technically the flap is basically a butterfly valve, right? What a. strange product! Be more useful for desktop hot air reflow if it can output enough heat. With a max of 1000Watts i'd imagine it could! Maybe not. but if it's responding to audio intensity, that technology could be used to make audio amps sound like AMD/nVidia blower fan cards when under high load! Except sensing heatsink and bridge temperature seems to work just as well.

I think just from the off it doesn't seem possible just from a sync standpoint even if the detection is 100% correct, and they reduced the latency to 0. In games, flashes of heat comes and goes quickly (unless you're in some sort of fire level. It will inevitably take a second for the heating element to turn on and heat the air, by which time the in-game heat would most likely be gone.

I wonder if it would make the fight with Ceaseless Discharge in Dark Souls more immersive. It would certainly be hotter. Also, I wonder if it can be programmed. Then, for your favourite game, you can make a mod to properly control this thing. No more delayed heating or incoherent fan speeds. If this is controlled properly, it certainly can add to the immersion.

This seems really. . bad. Why? Because it needs to be customized for each and every title. If it's not, it likely won't work right most of the time. Sure if developers in every game included code specifically for this product, it might be ok. But they (developers) will never do this. So the product is pointless and probably more annoying than helpful.

22: 36 -- If they company says they they recommend TWO of them and your're on a 15 Amp circuit + Gaming computer, you'; re going to be popping breakers. 120V x 15A = 1, 800W (total) If you pull 2200 watts from one socket + a computer that's a fire risk. Does it say anywhere NOT to connect it to an extension cord? Is it certified?

There have been fans for sale to replicate wind effects in racing sims for years. Other than adding hot air, this is nothing new at all. Plus the fan systems they sale for racing sims and racing games actually have software that follows the physics engine of the cars and are based on the cars movement and the cars around you.
