EVGA left the game for 1 week and the entire video card industry has lost its mind. In this video, we'll walk through the marketing madness, silly names, and, in some cases, bizarre designs of the NVIDIA RTX 4090, RTX 4080 16GB, and RTX 4080 12GB partner model video cards. This includes video cards from ASUS, Gigabyte, Colorful, MSI, Galax, Inno3D, Zotac, Palit, PNY, and Gainward. There are a few others too, but we only really removed the less relevant ones. raiku: I'm sorry these humungous cards are ridiculous, 5 slot card by zotac.. Are we moving back to when an entire room had to be a computer to operate basic functions?
I'm stun locked by these paladin behemoths, this can't be the trend going forward for too many years. Will we have to buy GPU cases separately soon to put next to our normal case, what's then stopping CPU-s for going for big air and having 10cm chips and radiator from a lamborghini on it to cool it. Absolutely mental..

Honestly I wonder how good Mr. Jensen really is for his company. Ego along with vertical integration desires are not necessarily a problem, they even go well together sometimes. What doesn t go well is wanting vertical integration of a process you don t fully have the resources for, and pissing off your business partners.
Apple got to where it is because it was able to build mutually beneficial relationships to increase its supply line, while Jensen thinks he can leave his business partners holding bills and it ll mull over well. He s just a bad businessman and needs to retire. He s totally right that as a company Nvidia needs vertical integration of the GPU process - he s just an egotistical middling businessman incapable of socializing well enough to do the proper networking.

I will be sticking with my 30 series card. I love Asus, got a 30 series ROG Strix card, but this new design with this damn fool red and blue accent has ruined this card. Why can't companies make everything monochrome, and let us add our own colour with RGB. Now this card won't match systems that aren't red and blue. ROG Strix 30 series cards look waaay better. I will skip this generation purely because of the red and blue design choices on Asus' part.

I like how you can see Steve's sanity progressively diminishing during the video due to the creative marketing lingo being used.
If the companies could maybe consider chilling out a bit with the l33t gamer product descriptions, that'd be great.
Also, these cooler designs are absurd. I'm old enough to remember when 2 slot cards were considered big. These are on another level entirely.
In any case, nice video as always!
Thanks, Steve.

I think I need a larger house to put those GPUs in...
On other note, I believe there will not be that much demand for those cards, sure top end will sell well because people who pay ridiculous money for cards don't care, but most market? Nah. Mining is gone, many people who wanted to upgrade from 10 and 9 series have done so with 30 series, lockdowns are over, cost of living is upon us etc.

This is now beyond ignorant. The clown world of clown universe. Said it a while ago, they need to ditch the idea of a card and make it a gpu box. There's plenty of open wasted space in the modern case these days to use. Also plenty of space for another radiator that the gpu can use. Anyway, I'm beginning to accept my 1060 will be the end of the nvidia road for me. Bring on Intel.

You know, back in the pascal days, i thought that zotac arctic storm and palit super jetstream were absurd names for graphics cards. Now we have serious night baron and midnight kaleidoscope cards with bionic shark fans supported by dark obelisks that give me 905,637 square millimeters of absolute dark power and i dont know if i want to laugh or faint... great vid though!

'SRS' question. Why has not a single manufacturer implemented a dummy PCI-E slot that attaches to the card, and fits into the 2nd/3rd/4th/69th slot (while being nonconductive) to help support these behemoths? Seems like it'd be pretty simple to engineer, and make movable to suit different mobo setups. Oh, and great vid - Thanks, Steve

I would say that the 40 series is starting to sound like a clownfiesta, but it has been that way since the rumours of power consumption started circulating the net. This is just further confirmation. I might just start shopping for a 3080ti and forget about graphics cards for 5 years.

No no no . Scrolling web pages are all the rage. Every site that uses one of the popular website in 15 minutes providers has huge scrolling images over useless information or videos. Apple uses this. To quote the movie Amadeus, I don't understand. Is it modern? .

If this generation is brutal by nature , you gotta wonder what will be the next step of marketing. rtx 5000 launch is going to be wild.
At this point I am in it for the entertainment, although somewhat unexpectedly entertainment of comedic nature.

If they are adamant on using ridiculous names, least make it consistent between generations. No way I'm learning some of these names, that are bound to change in 2-3 years.
It's like xxEXTREME-SUPER-ULTRAxx wasn't extreme enough for the marketing team.

Next step: Nvidia GPU in a separate box with PSU included plugged directly into the wall and with a long risen cable to connect this box to the PC.
This went too far for my taste in terms of size, design, (lack of) efficiency, and prices.
I pass.

If there's one thing the Noctua ASUS RTX 3070 demonstrated is that a huge part of the resulting temperature being so high in these cards is because the fans suck.
I bet they could do an RTX 4090 half the size of these if they used decent fans.

reply

Not so long a go the whole power consumption was 450w and people would worry about thermals for the whole pc case, realistically these GPU s should have their own casing with som kind of new pcie connection, (connectors and cable)
