We also cover a solo developer's project to make what will eventually be an open source GPU, Microsoft's renewed interest in handheld gaming, a $1400 monitor, and AMD launching yet more AM4 CPUs. Oh, and Sam Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

I think Microsoft Gaming/Xbox is having an existential crisis since the Steam Deck runs Linux and uses Proton; which has been killing the single biggest reason that a LOT of people had for not using Linux: gaming. Now that Linux can run (most) Windows games perfectly fine, most gamers with a decent amount of computer experience have little reason to not use Linux. Most of my games even run better on Linux than they did on Windows.

I know what Spencer can call it, XWindow. Because it's a tablet with detachable controllers. Singular window, you don't get forced os versions, it's the Xbox OS. Probably have a HUGE PROBLEM WITH STORAGE, because Microsoft refuses to use data compression and games take 100-200gb per install, and this isn't feasible with tablet storage limits.

valve lenovo and asus innovated a new for factor......... yes because there have never been handheld devices ever before in history. im sure ppl never heard of merlin. they created the first handheld. Nintendo, sega, ect ect. the list goes on. acting like they created the holy grail or something.

Every time I hear about sony they're like yeah we're still making consoles and video games
Every time I hear about Xbox, they're like I'm trying to wipe my ass, but I can't find my ass. It's as if every microsoft employee has had their brain removed as part of the hiring process.

Hey boss, sorry for the newb q. I am looking at custom build system integrator like ibuypower Powergpu and skytech. Is there 1 or 3 system integrator you recommend. I know u don't need them u build everything. But would help a newbie like me alot.

IMO Xbox’s primary problem is a lack of compelling exclusives. PS5 has the same cross platform games plus a bunch of top tier exclusives. Transforming the business from consoles to handhelds doesn’t really address the problem.

Steal Deck: Microsoft terrible browser, locked down Xbox worse the Steam experience... just speeding up irrelevance. Go XR Microsoft with you Azure platform and thin client HMD with users existing Windows PC as the processing would be great.

Phil Spencer going out of his way to not mention Steam or the Steam Deck. Also seeming to forget the Switch has existed for years. Xbox cloud save on PC is garbage and he should know it.

The pc industry continues to uphold the fine tradition of terrible naming schemes. Just throw random letters or 'gaming' at it and job done. Really makes searching their support pages 'fun'.

I have to admit that was the most funniest foreshadowing when a CEO wished there’s something to be done and not realize the said CEO is in the position of power to make it happen.

AM4 beat out socket 775, which is an amazing accomplishment. That was a socket that lived amazingly long for you youngins. Pentium 4 through end of Core 2, an amazing era for tinkerers.
reply

yesssssss!!! new AM4 cpu's. I don't understand the hate for having a upgrade path for older sockets. We shouldn't be forced to upgrade a motherboard for simply upgrading our CPU

That AOC monitor is basically what I'm waiting for: 240Hz, WQHD, OLED. Does it have VESA mount I hope many more like this will come this year to bring the price down. I mean way down.
reply

Honestly I would rather have amd release CPUs for AM4 for 6 more years than them rebadging the same chip year after year... Looking at the RX 380 and intel every other year
reply

Said it before, but so long as Epyc Milan continues to be produced for server customers, there will likely continue to be AM4 supply due to chiplet binning. Good stuff.

Xbox is full tilt on software service. But they need make quality games.
Doesn't help when Xbox Marketing manager makes vague weird statements on Twitter.

xbox needs to fix cloud gaming everything runs fine but the audio sounds like its running through water, or let me download the game i already own to my pc

I wish more FuryGPUs would come to the market because of this.
It'd pave a day for modern gamers to play unsupported or mistimed games on modern hardware

I really hope there is someone out there, that can help poor old Phil in his quest to get his Fallout 76 cross-save onto his legion go.
Pretty Please

Intel seems inspired by AM4s longevity with their 14th gen and perhaps 15th gen refreshes of 13th gen LGA1700 is the 2nd coming of 14nm refreshes
