This computer uses the IBM Power PC architecture and was once a 2000 PowerMac G5 dual-CPU workstation, but was found on the roadside and brought to us for restoration and repair. This is an IBM Power PC dual-socket, dual-CPU system built by Apple as part of the PowerMac G5 family, circa 2004-2005. It was once a high-end workstation, but was sadly discarded incorrectly and alongside the woods near a road. Considering how much raw aluminum is in the chassis alone, and how many dangerous chemicals are in PCBs, this could have been taken to a computer or e-waste recycler instead, who would have been able to melt down the metals and reuse them, and then properly contain the PCBs so that they don't bleed chemicals into the environment. Daniel Toben, our guest today, picked up the system during his regular cleanup route, then brought it to us for restoration.

You should see the amount of litter here despite the government placing them almost everywhere, not the mention that places like a fast food place might have bins outside while their terrace is in use, trash bins are found near the door of these places anyhow. I have seen restaurants placing bins outside as well, these are all places people can use, and yet people throw it on the ground or other places like flower pots.
In some places you have so many trash bins there is a trash bin within a few steps from you at all times or on the routes you might walk. It just baffles me from a logical perspective. YOu would throw the same stuff in your house or garden either, so why would you do it outside? It logically just does not make sense, outside of being eco friendly. I understand that Forrest may not have trash bins everywhere, but given out forests are more like Large nature parks given how well managed they are, they also try to put these at various spots namely around benches and traffic-heavy places within the forest.

I restore, calibrate old CNC machines and wire EDM machines, while I actually run new machines to make money for the shop. You should see some of the old computer hardware I need to source parts for... It's nice to see someone else doing it for once. Patrick, invest in a half dozen cans of decent electrical contact cleaner. Makes cleaning spiders and industrial crud off components much easier, follow up with serious compressed air, not that canned stuff. You'll thank me later. Good luck bud, I'm pulling for ya, hope to see that machine run again.

I don't know if you have any, but CRC makes electronics cleaner and I used the hell out of that stuff when I pulled parts out of recycling. It's safe on all electronics, of course, and it dries pretty quickly. I believe Tech Yes likes to use Brake Cleaner (essentially the same stuff, like power steering fluid and brake fluid). If you spray it liberally, you can get surface rust off of some components, like the transformer in the power supply. Just use latex gloves if you can; the stuff is harsh and will dry out your hands pretty quickly.

I have a laptop I repaired that was found in a drainage ditch. 17 Dell. It was my main system til it started having heat issues. I have a friend who found an Alienware someone was tossing (back when they were better) and I have fixed a system someone found thrown out (that had all the info you'd need to steal the previous owners identity, like his taxes)
It amazes me how much electronics people throw out instead of recycling (or trying to fix, all 3 of the systems I mentioned were fairly simple repairs)

In my country, only very rich people whose monthly income is above 1000 dollars can throw away things like that, and that's only 1 percent, 90 percent is under 500 dollars. in my country, goods like this are still traded at very expensive prices. Apple products in my country are seen as products of the rich. Until the end of the world even this (finding expensive used PCs discarded in the forest or trash cans) will not happen in my country, Indonesia.

Does not compute: 1. reduce pollution by refurbishing waste, 2. using refrigerant to blow dust.
(It's not your fault, I also bought those air duster cans before I caught up with basic physics and learned that they are not compressed air, but refrigerants... It's idiotic that the same substance that was banned (in EU) from my car's AC is allowed to be sold in cans and called compressed air ... Wait, it's not idiotic, it's criminal!)

I don t get why so many people act like a company doing anything proprietary is automatically always in all ways and situations, a negative thing. There s pros and cons to it just like there are pros and cons to standards.
Why wouldn t you want 1 computer company to do things differently from the rest so at least you have the option depending on which side is better for your situation/needs?

No burn marks near the fuses or so... You definately have not watched enough Rossmann videos , otherwise you would have known, that an Apple fuse is the most indestructable thing in a modern Apple product. Edit: for a 15 year old Computer some parts seem to be still in excellent shape, I guess there was something true about Apple's good build quality, at least in the past

Wow, I really didn t know people behaved like this in the US. That s their country and community it boggles how much waste that this guy and his group removed in one year.
I ll no longer complain that I might be waiting four days for an appointment for a specific item or furniture piece to be pick up if can t take to the appropriate facility myself.

I once witnessed my friend's computer dying a painful bluesmokey screenscramble death. when we opened it up we discovered a spider that took the wrong turn and fried itself shorting the pins of a chip, blowing the neighbour chip up (however that worked).
yes it was one of the huge european spiders, it barely fit through the headphone jack.
