Hmm, so, I have a small SSD for my C: system drive and Chocolatey does two things that irk me:
First: default install is to the C drive under Program Data, no option to change during install so you have to do workarounds (this is not hard but annoying).
Second: Chocolatey uses the package's default install directory choice unless you intervene in each install and specify a location in a non-trivial way (custom to each package installer type). This can be solved by subscribing to the paid licence version for $8 per month, FOREVER. That's anything but a linux attitude for a critical feature.
If I have to wrestle this hard with Chocolatey for my (imo typical) use case, nah fam, I'm good. I'll just install shit the old fashioned way, at least I won't junk my system drive.
Anyway, good video and I assume for most people with a big system drive this isn't a problem.

Chris,
FYI, you used the command -choco update all- but it looks as if 'update' has now been replaced by 'upgrade'.
BTW, what is the PowerShell command that will list -all- of my Chocolatey packages? I see where -choco -?- provides a list of all Chocolatey commands but couldn't find one that would list all the packages I've requested for my PC.
Have you found that uninstalling s/w through Chocolatey cleans up all the leftover files as well as IObit Uninstaller and the like?
Thanks for chatting about a very useful piece of s/w!

Hello
DANGER
I downloaded WinMerge from Chocolatey which worked as expected.
HOWEVER, now when using RoboCopy in my own Powershell Scripts,
it's Parameter are reversed.
This means every new backup justs resets my code.
I did a system restore and the problem was temporily solved.
The problem has remerged.
Has anybody any suggestions how to resolve the problem.
I dont know who is responsible for this malicious BUG
To whoever this is
Im not amused, Ha Ha very funny.

Great video I used to use ninite a few years ago but Chocolatey put me off because it meant commands. But now I've been using Linux a while I am okay with commands. Am I missing something, how do I deploy the list of Chocolately installed apps to a new machine? Ninite bundled them into a .exe that you simply ran on a new machine, is it possible to do this with Chocolatey?

I have actually been using Linux exclusive for the first 6 months of this year. But started finding myself in Windows more and more because of E-sports games I play with friends that use anti-cheat that won't run on linux. I am now using this to get some of the stuff that I like about Linux while I have to use Windows.

in 02:30 how do you find out it's better to install the Open-Shell by bcurran3 and not others?
I mean say I just wanna install 7zip. Then I intuitively know that it should be ---choco install 7zip--- but how to make sure that I shouldn't run ---choco install 7zip.install--- if I simply want a 7zip?

I am in Linux for 16 years now but have to use windows on my work computer.
Seriously that flawed software distribution in windows bothered me for years because in my own computers it was always so much easier.
I just discovered this, man it-s awesome! I have been waiting for this for years

Important: You don' have to close the window after installation. You can just type 'refreshenv' to refresh the environment.
PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> refreshenv
Refreshing environment variables from registry for cmd.exe. Please wait...Finished..
After that you can install packages.

Very first application I searched for was not found. No thanks. Debian's repo literally has ten times more packages. I HAVE to use windows for a couple things that are being slowly ported to Linux, but look forward to the day I can cut it loose completely.
