I think if you want to get your feet wet on linux, install linux mint on a old machine if you find yourself to have one. Otherwise make use of oracle vm. Or you can just be bild and install linux on a machine.
What I have learned this couple of month as Chris said before, pick a distro and stick with it... I highly suggest to use linux mint for the absolute beginner, I found this advice from the youtuber -computers explained-.
Last thing worth mentioning, explore linux and its apps, it is surprisingly powerful and stable, dont expect to make use of microsoft office except on the web, virtualisation is cool, soon with a little bit of endurance you'd start to like linux

Trying to use Windows in modern ways always reminds me of trying to play blu-ray on a CRT television. Sure, you can hack something together, but it's going to be a hassle and the result is going to be much worse than just using modern stuff. Like he said, Windows hasn't changed much in decades, and that's not because it hasn't been necessary.

So when the Windows Update screws up your system, like 2004 just did to many, Linux is screwed up, too. Still a nonstarter. And putting in a linux desktop on the windows subsystem for linux is still difficult to impossible. Mcrap should just issue a dual-boot out of the box. -

I made the same thing with colinux + slackeware + xming on windows xp in 2007. It was fun and all my programming stuff i was concentrate in raiserfs partition! I used my raiserfs under windows via samba. In 2007 it was very unique experience.

Coming from a Windows background, I'm very excited about these changes. I love playing around with Linux, and I expect Linux to play a larger and larger role in Windows 10. Eventually, I expect Windows to become -nix at its core, and go open source.

Honestly this is exactly what I-ve been wanting to work with I believe! I want to use Linux primarily and then just have windows for my games, I-m still new to Linux so I-m hoping eventually I-ll figure out or watch your videos how to do

This is awesome! Ever since I took the Operating System class last semester, I've been doing something similar. I've been rocking WT with Ubuntu as my default. It's been a good combination of both worlds for me.

As a Linux user who needs to use Windows for work, it's super exciting to be able to use these tools on Windows. I recommend trying MobaXterm for an X11 display server. It seems to be quite performant.

I don't get what's the hype with WSL yet you cannot use it for production workloads, It's there only to help developers use bash scripting to navigate the file system.
