Personally who gives a shit what his beliefs are. The man was embraced in the linux movement because of his skills not because of his beliefs . And if the linux community is at the point where its going to throw good coders out just because they politically dont like the peoples opinions . Then the linux community doesnt have much of a future . Lets toss out this coder thats done tons of work to make the os great just because he made one comment that sounds racist. And lets replace him with this person that knows nothing about coding just because he is uneducated and a minority because you know we should always give people that cant do the job properly work just because of the color of their skin right (sarcasm) When we allow beliefs and politics to dictate what we allow in our code base instead of using people with the skill to do it . Then our community is just as broken as the political system that makes all these promises with their lies then breaks then when its time to take action . Because hey who cares if they can do the job as long as they can sound good and fit the profile for what we want the community to look like . What a joke this community is becoming .

You ask: Should these guys speak for us? I ask : Should we discuss about anything else but the idea they shared. I don't think that Richard Stallman or Linus Torvalds consider they speak for us. They speak for themselves. It just happens that many more people listen to Richard Stallman.
No, you're not asking whether -they should speak for us-. You are asking whether or not we should take their freedom of speech away. Forbid them to speak publicly. That is what you are asking, and on best case, you are making a huge, harmful mistake.
You have to know, even if you still can't believe it : yes, 20 years ago, anyone would have answered we will never ever take Microsoft Windows down. Yet. It's not gonna stop.It just started.
It is just sooooo obvious to me, now, while I am putting this into words: I am very sure that neither RMS, nor Linus T. ' have ever even thought of speaking for anyone else.

I do not think that Stallman deserved to get lynched. It should be obvious from Stallmans mannerisms and behavior that Stallman is on the spectrum. People like this are common in STEM. I have been pulled aside for some of my behavior in the past and some people think I am odd, so I can relate to Stallman a lot.
People like to advocate for so called -inclusivity- but then bully and outcast people because they struggle with social skills, do you see the irony here?
People like Stallman make people feel uncomfortable but being inclusive means that you just have to toughen up and deal with that awkwardness. There are other types of people that might also make you feel uncomfortable, we have to include them too.
Although I do not think Stallman deserved this, I think it might be time to pass the torch and get in fresh leadership with new ideas.

sir you are a lair
your coverage of the whole thing is wrong either cause you did not read the message or you wanted to prove a point you wanted to make.
the reports suggest that it was not an email he started it was a mail chain that was on and he joined.
the other thing is that you said he said -she was willing- nop he did not say that he said -most plausible scenario is that she presented herself to him as entirely willing- great difference when you read the whole quote right.
and if you do not know what cancel culture is how come you are covering a cancel culture subject?
i would not say you are baised cause i dont know you. but for sure you coverage is baised and a play on facts to get your point.

Richard Stallman is a super intelligent person that has made a career out of making decisions based on principle. The fact that RMS is no longer at MIT is a reflection of the deterioration of MIT and American universities in general. I doubt that I would be getting a college degree now, when knowledge is publicly available for free and the role of universities as places for the open sharing of ideas is so grossly degraded.
Richard Stallman made possible the -free software- movement against enormous odds, and his two great contributions (GNU software and GPL license) are monuments to be preserved and studied by every and all intelligent and freedom-loving persons in this world.

Here's the future of open source and linux: War.
You're at war with an enemy cult, that seeks to rule the earth. Open software and linux is just part of that. So far you've been losing this war, because you failed to unite against a common enemy. This is not hyperbole - not even the -rule the earth--statement: Take a look at everything the cultural marxists have invaded. Check out the money trail of who's propping those activists up. It's globalist megacorps and banks. Those mobs that are taking down your leaders one by one, so they can install themselves to engineer your society, are merely the foot soldiers of a global cabal. That's what you're up against.

The thing is, FSF / Linux is not that well known anyway, so Richard Stallman being bad press is of no issue. Nobody started using Linux because of the community, but because they were left with no other choice. Let's be honest here. To get rid of Richard Stallman and possibly Linus Torvalds because they're eccentric and are very opinionated is a fool's errand because at the end of the day what did you accomplish? Nothing, you just got rid of two highly opinionated guys who founded the foundations of FSF. Richard Stallman is an eccentric guy, and with that comes tradeoffs. Nothing is perfect in this world, and you're an idiot if you expect them to be.

This is a good thing. Maybe the FSF can actually get some work done now that it's biggest F--- up is gone. I normally don't share this but I've seen the FSF as a f-----g joke because of Stallman. I've hated him since he made pro pedophilia comments in 2003. Stallman. GNU OS never got finished due to Stallman not considering the BSD license free. Stallman once told a linux user you dont need to know how to install linux have a friend do it come on he's known for public mental meltdowns he deserved to be canned as much as Steve Jobs did for being fianically irresponsible in R & D

Free/Open Source Software is becoming too professional for my liking I see the FOSS community as the worlds biggest computer science club. we all help each other, have fun, and sometimes make some money in the process (but its not the goal.) I do think some code of conduct is needed though. I do believe what he said was wrong but I think forced resignation is to harsh for having an opinion on somthing that happend in the summer and is probably going to be forgotten by next year.
yes I saw that post on the FSF and I think some people have a point but leaving is too much.

Stallman's ideas are great, and he's not going anywhere. He stepped out of these positions for political reasons, but nothing stops him from continuing to contribute to free software. And the community wouldn't want him to. The SJW's may convince media outlets of their lies, but the free software community is full of much smarter people than that. People that saw right through the deception.
