On the bloat of browsers and how much RAM they take up. I upgraded from 8 to 16G of RAM at about the same time Reddit changed their interface to a continuous-scrolling one. I can only scroll through Reddit for a couple of hours before everything starts to slow down. When I check the RAM....half of it is going to Minecraft: That's fair, I'm running a lot of mods. The other half though? Firefox is using 8G and all I have open is Reddit.
On the new Pi: So the 4Gigi version is good if you cool it. A power switch can be added for a couple of bucks and a few lines of code.
On tech and the environment: I have a 12 year old laptop (running linux) and a 6 year old phone (running cyanogen). I won't replace either until they stop working, and only then if they can't be repaired. I have a new computer, but nothing got thrown out when I bought it. Thankfully, I bought the laptop and phone at a time when things were built to have their batteries easily replaced when necessary. I think there should be some regulation on planned obsolescence. Nations are trying to make environmentally conscious decisions, so why do we allow companies to build products which can't be repaired.
On people quitting the Free Software Foundation over Stallman: If they're leaving because he's gone, they obviously never believed in the cause; good riddance to them.

Fast forward to 3 years from now...
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Windows,
is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Windows.
Windows is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another non-free component
of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell
utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day,
without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU
which is widely used today is often called -Windows-, and many of its users are
not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

Alow me to disagree with you claim about IPhones being obsolete after two years.
I own an iPhone, it-s my first IPhone and I-ve never owned the same phone for this much time. It has 4 years already, I-m a developer and it does basically everything I need, still receives security and feature updates every time apple releases one, so it-s still updated.
With my previous phones, after a year or so, even from Samsung ou other big brands, I stop receiving updates and security patches short after I buy the equipment..
Apple actually makes you being able to safely use your phone for a lot longer than any other vendor. And that-s the only reason I still use an IPhone -

Two reasons why Windows switching to Linux is still a crazy idea:
1. Rewriting all the drivers, ensuring 100% backwards compatibility with NT software - those things would be ridiculously expensive.
2. The fact that a lot of proprietary software relies on the NT kernel and is impossible to run through Wine (e.g. Photoshop or video games with DRM) is what prevents a lot of people from switching to current Linux systems. If they ditched the NT kernel, and all new Windows software now -had to be Linux-compatible by default-, MS would lose its monopoly.

Good episode. However, I have to criticise one part. You have to give credits to Apple for upgrading the software on their iPhones and iPads for as long as possible (4-5 years easily). Tell me one Android vendor that does the same. There is none, at least -mainstream-. Yes, if you hardware is broken, well, it can be repaired but it might not be easy. But software wise, the best support yet is given by Apple. Even the Google phones are only supported for 2-3 years...

18:41 no thats not quite right as well it doesnt have a power off button you have to do that in software as you know it from the most OSes but once its shutdown you can restart it (or atleast you can on the 3B model by bridging two pins on the board that are convieniently labeled RUN and convieniently placed close to the GPIO header. i assume they didnt remove that in the pi 4. so you could just solder a switch in there and you have a power on button...

FYI, a correction on CO2. It's a coolant, not a GHG, and a trace gas whose atmospheric concentration lags global temps by about 800 years. It's an effect not a cause. Cosmic rays cause cloud cover which modulate global temps predominantly. Man's contribution to climate change is about 1% of the total cyclical variability. GW/CC is a shameless globalist psyop that's fast debunking itself. Over 600 studies have linked the sun and external drivers to CC.

I donated $34 to Free Software Foundation with all my heart because I am tired of planned obsolescence when it comes to smartphones and mobile devices. I simply want to buy a phone with either a high capacity battery (6,000+ mAh) or user-replaceable battery. Am I crazy for wanting a smartphone with a very high battery capacity? No, as long as the battery is non-removable.

13:54 no its not that easy because you still need to get your software to run on ARM processors. and not every package is available for ARM many may be any those that arent are hopefully available as source so you can compile them yourself although depending on the way the programm to be packaged is written this may fail (take c with inline assembly for example)

I'm quite curious, what happens to all those Windows -fan boys- who venomously attack Linux when MS puts out -Windows 11 on a Linux Kernel-... do we say I told you so or tell them, in no uncertain terms, to -go away you hate Linux-? It'll certainly confuse a lot of tiny minds.
