In the current state, Linux doesn't support many productivity software like Windows and it's not efficient to work with. With Linux, you can only work either in the IT section of a company or working alone in your parents' basement.
As much as I love Linux (as a Linux enthusiast), I prefer working with people from various fields (scientific, business & marketing, graphic design, literally any field that's not just IT) than working alone and spend most of the time reinventing the wheel that nobody cares. Workflow is much better when it's easier to communicate with other people. There are so MANY task-specific programs in Windows that it's no easy feat to reinvent and replace them all (in the field of computational chemistry alone for example). Even Mac users have to switch to Windows A LOT when they are working. That's the monster Linux has to face if it wants to be mainstream. You would have a very shallow view of the world (with some superiority complex) if you thought that Windows users are just for GaMeS & Ms ExCeL.

Most of the why use linux gives a landscape of what a Windows PC was like in 1998. I manage a large company IT estate and Active Directory and Intune do an amazing job and modern tooling to deploy systems and software en masse is amazing. If you use a PC for games, don-t bother with Linux unless you want a headache. Wait for SteamOS 3 and see what that-s like.
If you want to use software that-s not as good as the paid for commercial stuff and have a working computer for cheap or revive a POS laptop or desktop it-s great.
For a home user, Desktop PCs are massively on the decline. People will buy a Mac or use a Windows Laptop from work. No one that-s not a bit tech savvie is going to actively install a Linux OS and give it a spin.
The majority of people have shifted to computing on their phones or tablets and game on consoles.
Desktops are only really used in Business or workstation/gaming builds by enthusiasts at home.

How to explain freedom to a Windows/Mac user: -When something breaks, it's your responsibility to fix it, even though you're not a software engineer or cybersecurity consultant.-
Open-source only provides an _illusion_ of security. 99.999% of Linux users assume that someone else with more expertise has already audited the code, but in fact that rarely happens. FreeBSD, for example, has security bugs over a decade old that nobody has fixed yet, and we only know that because _one researcher_ has been keeping tabs on those bugs this whole time.
-The --_main_-- advantage of open-source is not security, it's --_reusability_-- -- anyone can reuse open-source code to build a new useful widget without starting from scratch.-

Don't you think that all Linux distros (top 20) do absolutely the same - data collection ? And yes, there is nice tui file manager called FAR MANAGER, the blue goddess of productivity, and it works now under Linux. But again, major distros are supported by commercial companies, and they are not charity organizations, they either collect your data, and I bet SO FEW people can review millions of lines of code and compile each software, so this feeling of protection and freedom is pure illusion. Especially when V-pro technology is embedded in Intel for the last 20 years.

Can you make a video, dedicated to Windows Refund day? i am interested in this event. I know there is a lot of information and details and i can use google to figure this out for 10 - 15 minutes, but i would like to hear your point, your opinion, your take about what happened on February 15th 1999 was windows refund day. We both know that Microsoft was dishonest and dishonorable and never accepted and refunded the never used and never activated licenses for windows.

I be told my friends many times these dangers and all of them have shit PCs so I tell them to switching to something that-s user friendly like ubuntu or other user friendly based distributions, they just make fun of me for not being able to run some games, software etc. but I tell them wine, proton exists but they keep going on on on, but they won-t listen, I just let them take their L. But I am glad I know about Linux, Open Source Softwares, and etc.

Hey -dt. I'm a computer engineering student.
Should a person (especially students like me) who watches you and people like you, who are constantly promoting and spreading awareness of FOSS, FSF, etc. study hard and apply for internship and jobs at Microsoft? I am not talking specifically for Microsoft but the all the other tech gaints.
I want to know your thoughts as well as others in the comment section.

This isn't 1999 anymore. Most users won't experience a serious malware on their home PCs. Viruses target businesses these days. It's where the money is. With everything in the cloud, most home PC users don't even care if they get a cryptolocker trojan or a tech support scam popup. It's getting harder to convince people to use Linux, and using outdated arguments isn't helping.

Why I don't use linux even after spending 1 year on it learning --
First of all I am a student I don't have that much time to run 4 commands from brave browser website to just install brave browser.
You may say it is available in software store. But it is not the case with all softwares.
It is not optimized for most pcs
It wastes more time than it actually save.

Linux users say they don-t trust Microsoft because they are a multi-billion-dollar company. Well, guess what? Dell, Intel, AMD, Valve, McDonalds, Coca Cola, Nestle, Sony, Google and Toyota are also multi-billion dollar companies as well. Don-t see Linux users having problems buying from them, so what makes Microsoft so different?
