A couple notes regarding this video 9mo later. Generally speaking aircraft and airports are on AM.
Also as far as picking up HF you CAN do it without a converter. Depending on what OS you use you can change the input to sample just on branch or the other of the tuner. The I and Q inputs are most of the time sampled together. On some OS's you can choose to listen to one branch. For example in Linux you can listen to just the Q branch and pick up HF from 500khz to 24MHZ but to recieve anything above that you need to switch back to sampling both infeed branches.
Look up the rtl-sdr website that is written on the outside of the dongle and you can read many different ways to manipulate the dongle and read about other software used.

Have you tried wrapping your own balun like 1: 1 & 4: 1. with T31 or T43? I've had mine for months & no accessories & then ( I ordered several size & type Baluns) (SMA connect. & RG400 teflon dye-ele) (then saav2) Just to force me to learn & to hopefully take Ham Licence test When I event. order Beauf radio. Got stuck alot. learned alot. in beginning all I had was FM radio. my wires were to close to roof 1 side. no test eq either. $65-85 for networt analizer totaly worth it. build my own filters antennas etc. so fun

You know what i got my rtl sdr dongle running on my Android TV using sdr touch today but you have to use a third party file explorer and find a website that mirrors the APK files off of google play move the APK to a flashdrive plug the flashdrive into your tv use the file manager you downloaded select apk file and install it it won't work with all apps but it worked for sdr touch and the driver u also have to have the setting install apps from unknown sources turned on or it wont work

In several country's in Europe you can not listening to police en fire services as tranmissions are all digital and coded. But hey, plenty of other frequencies are not coded. For airplanes you are best to have 2 receivers as transmissions are in duplex.
I doubt if your Chines Baofeng radio - transceiver are legal. The FCC ( US regulator) can confiscate then and give you a severen fine.

I just got me this SDR receiver that he-s talking about and if he follows instructions in the video you will have this up and running in about five minutes Rob thank you for sharing this and as always the products you recommend Are a very good quality and works as you describe them in your videos

I am expecting some good info but if the power is out, I won't be using my computer to get information. However, I do have an app on my phone to get basic non-digital transmissions tuned in.

The software publisher AirSpy recommends the Zedig. exe be run as Admin. Been using this for over 6 months. Still learning. Still fun.
