To be fair freeze panes and split panes serve different purposes. Freeze panes is more of a viewing tool while split screens is better as a reviewing the data tool.
Possible uses for split screens include: changing values in one section of the spreadsheet and being able to the see affect of those changes in the results section of the spreadsheet; holding a formula column to the far right in place while scrolling through the various precedent columns on the left side (precedent being cells used by the formula).
So a finished / published spreadsheet would be better served by freeze panes but split screens can be useful in validating, troubleshooting or testing scenarios.

Hello! I have a question: is it possible to freeze only half of the page? What I mean is that I would like to keep the right side of my page (let's say from column c through the end of the sheet) stuck so I can have the summary of my data on sight every time meanwhile i scroll down the left side of the page (so only the first three columns will scroll down) where is placed the table with all the bulk of data. Is it possible to do something like this? I can't find any solution, it's really frustrating. Hope you can help me and I hope that I explained my self in a clear way, English is not my first language. Many thanks

When panes are frozen, it may appear that columns are hidden when they are just out of view. I had a worksheet with columns A and B out of view, with column C as the first visible column. I forgot the panes were frozen and I tried to unhide columns A and B. That was a very frustrating experience - try as I might - including using a VBA command to unhide all columns - columns A and B would not come into view. I eventually realized that all I had to do was unfreeze panes first.

Hi Mynda. I completely agree! Love Freeze Panes.. do not love Split Panes. Also, you showed a hidden gem in there.. SHIFT+CTRL+mouse wheel to move right/left. I've always done the keyboard of ALT+PG DN/UP, but that jumps a whole frame at a time. Love the L/R scroll option. So, thanks for that and all the other great tips and videos this year. Looking forward to more in 2021 :)) Happy Holidays and Thumbs up!!

Always like a freeze but never felt the need for split panes. I-ve inherited a 100+ tabbed workbook so use the New Window function with Alt+Tab to swap around. Works for me! If you have a monster workbook, you can also right-click lower left on the tab name arrows to get a scrollable pop-up list of all the tabs in the workbook. Only learned that a few weeks ago.

Thanks, Mynda. I have Date, Actual, Target in a table in Columns A-C and rows 1-999. I also have a chart in Cells G1:N20. I would like to be able to scroll through the data table, while having the chart always being visible (not scrolling). Is there a way to do this?

Nice to have an Excel beginners video for a change. I never really found any practical use of split panes so I can understand why it would be annoying. Btw where can I get a -geek- Tee like that? Happy Holidays!

Thank you Mynda. Everything very clear, as always. It strikes me that in databases with more than 50 headings, hardly anyone uses Freeze Panes. I consider it something very practical. Merry Christmas Mynda!!!

Good and simple video. I don't see a big purpose of Split panes (it has of course), but if you can achieve it with Freeze panes or Arrange Windows...simpler without confusing. Thanks for the input!

Split panes are a complete waste of time IMO, but nevertheless you could have both by using a separate view of the same file with freeze on one and split on the other UGGGHHH
