Why is a 3080Ti a good option?
-1500 for a GPU?
-500 for GPU sure.
I have a PS5. That cost -399 for a whole system.
I have a full system minus a good GPU. PC gaming is dead if cards are all -1000 plus!
High performing gaming was 1% of PC gamers. Majority play on 1060 or 1660.
We should all be on 3060 now but instead of -300 they are -900
Right now my monitor works and games don't. I'll never pay over the odds for a GPU.
Some people just have too much money to waste. That's why PC will die. Second hand broken cards sell for -500. They are dead!
A rx570 sold for -360 recently on eBay. 3 time MSRP seems to be the norm.
Laptops will take over PCs. Customs builds will disappear. Except for the super rich.
Unless 2022 is a big change. But this has been going on since 2017. Stores have closed.
Remember it's not just US, Canada and Australia. The rest of the world, like Europe for example exist.
Consoles will take over. And innovation will drop off. -

The M1 Max chip is pretty compelling for video production work and other professional applications, especially when you factor in the onboard ProRes encode/decode. I think they should break the chip awards down by professional vs gaming focus. Regardless, I'm getting an M1 Max months before I could get any RTX 30XX cards without paying the scalper tax. Yes, Apple is expensive but I'd rather pay them than scalpers. Oh wait, they only want to consider -PC- chips (x86) - in that case - I have no idea. Alderlake looks pretty good since they basically took the Apple approach to chip design and it seems to be working for them - I look forward to the AMD response.

I'm shocked. I totally agree with Gordon's take on GPUs and the industry as a whole. If I want an RTX 3090, I'm going to get it, one way or another. But if someone doesn't have the budget, means or will to get a high end GPU, or anything else for that matter, they should be provided with the best value option. But we should never become complacent and simply accept mediocre performance, especially when Consoles are a viable option. Hopefully the Free Market will work itself out and eventually prices will fall; if they don't I think we have a much bigger problem than expensive hardware to contend with.

I guess the name of the award is -Best PC hardware-, not -PC hardware of the year. - So in that sense, I agree with Gordon. But I'm not sure how interesting an award for -Best PC hardware- actually is - we all know what the best hardware is, right? It's a bit like having a -car of the year- award, and giving it to the Bugatti Chiron every year, because it's the fastest.
Usually, I guess these awards are used to highlight products that represent trends, not just -the best thing. - If we look back on 2021 in a decade, we won't think of the 3080 Ti representing what this year was all about.

It is ridiculous that we are even discussing the 5600G as a cpu of the year just to appease the AMD fanboys. The 12600K (even with DDR4) beats in overall multithreaded performance the 5600X by 40% and the 5600G by a massive 66%. And in overall single-threaded performance it beats the 5600X by 22% and the 5600G by 27%. The 5600G is offering a decent iGPU sure but that is only comparable to a lowly GT1030. It is nowhere near a GTX 1050 as someone mentioned. The GTX 1050 is from 50% to 100% faster (depending on the game.

I'm beginning to really be annoyed with Gordan, not only he likes to hype stuff, he distills others arguments to something they are not saying, he does this every time he goes into an argument/discussion. No one said the cheaper CPU is the best, no one said Alder lake is shit. And the whole discussion needs parameters first, are you talking the best value? best performance? gaming? production?
This is a ship with no captain and no heading, I dont know what the arguments goal is and what are they serving.

I said as much a good few months ago now.
One other thing about the 5600G and 5700G parts, neither move things forward graphically. So, speaking to what Alaina and Brad were pointing out - those Vega 8 parts are slightly higher clocked versions of the original 2200G and 2400G. There's nothing innovative there.

i honestly dont know what brad and gordon is smoking. Alderlake is fast because of its power consumption. bring the power down to Ryzens level and see how wel it does. Bring the power level to the M1x level and see it chug on fumes. you dont think if AMD gave ryzen a 300watt power cieling it wouldnt beat alderlake? It won but at what cost and it is really winning if you have to use more electricity when others tried to cut power down.

Wholeheartedly disagree with Gordon, the reason basically any product wasn't made better is because if they did make it better it would cost more. Also, it's not the high end that makes new generations better, it's the increase in performance for the same money. The last generations we've had was the same performance for the same money or more performance for more money, THAT is what is killing PC gaming.
