My experience with windows 10 tells me unless you are3 having a prerequisite of 2TB or more as a base model for windows to be installed on you are going to have issues long term unless you are in the reality of building decluttered versions of windows you are going to have issues with running anything on a sub 1TB laptop, practice it is nice to sub 1TB hardware, as practical as I can be you should be looking high spec options can can be easily upgrade to bigger storage, otherwise you are looking at formatting laptops into ubuntu or some other linux distro.
I would hazard a guess chrome will likely have the same issues as windows when it comes to updating on low storage medium tools.
with the current need of IC chips or plug-in daughter boards and industrial level security being leveled at the consumer market windows 11 or any other OS supporting these features is going to be forced to buy new hardware making hardware obsolete that is 2 or less years old
under windows these days you are lucky to get 2 revisions in before the damn OS wants to brick itself on 1TB or less I would state even 2TB might be a obsoleted storage format unless you are running raids for your storage needs.
having owned a couple of laptops/tablet that fit in this class of operation I think these machine are going to be a waste of e-waste because of lack of storage and lack of upgrade options you will likely be forced to install linux on it just to keep it usable for a year rather than 4-8 years or longer pending on what year they start carrying laptops/tablets to school
don't care if you pay $250-1, 500 for a laptop/tablet today in most cases you will be bricking or upgrading the internals within a 6-12 month period just to keep OS and various programs up to date

Surface student Jasper Lake Celeron at $249 sits on WW market priced sub $300 Broadwell and Haswell dual mobile U ultrabook market, hum, I think I'd stick with back generations on that one; better screen, memory, storage options of ultra book. Surface might make a fashion statement but for the kid power user Broadwell HQ quad and dual U and Haswell HQ, MQ quad dual U ultrabook still win. mb

You shouldn't be gaming if you're still on a fourth-gen CPU. At a certain point, you need to upgrade, ALTHOUGH it should be the decision of the consumer and not be a forced upgrade courtesy of Microsoft.

I'm not a gamer. other than solitare. and I will not upgrade to Windows 11 for a long while. and do not use Chrome either.
