How to Create The Popular Pebble-Like Skin Texture in Photoshop

How to Create The Popular Pebble-Like Skin Texture in Photoshop

we'll learn how to create a pebble-like skin texture that you might have witnessed in advertisements, fashion magazines, or billboards. DOWNLOAD SIMILAR IMAGE FOR PRACTICE: The idea for this glamorous skin texture was given by Sandy Walker (Portrait and Pet Photographer) and a beautiful ad on Amazon. Creating a new skin texture in Photoshop has its own challenges. It is essential that you first remove the existing skin texture. Otherwise, the mixture is bound to look funky. Next, the values that I'm going to use will most probably be different for your image. So, you need to perform some trial and error and play with sliders to get it right according to your artistic call. Since the tutorial is a long one, I have divided this video into three segments. In the first segment, I'll straightforwardly tell you how to get this texture and that's it. You're done. In the second segment, we'll learn how to create a pattern so that you can apply the skin texture in any image you want with just one preset and have the full ability to control all aspects of it. The third part is where things get interesting! In the third part, I'll explain how I figured out this technique. This is essential if you want to seriously get into Photoshop and invent your own techniques. This is similar to learning the piano by ear, so that no matter what song somebody throws at you, you are able to get it on the keys

I thoroughly enjoy your tuts. I really like how you explain the process. I've been a Photoshop user since 2011, I consider myself to be nearing the advanced level, but watching your videos I realize that there really isn't one way to skin the cat. Thank you for your tremendous work.
PS. I was going to ask you to explain a technique I saw, but your idea of learning to play by ear was good advice.

I didn't like the pebble-skin aesthetically, it looks like a dog nose texture or like she has goosebumps everywhere. But with very careful use it can be applied, for example, to a photograph with such harsh light that the skin has lost texture but the client absolutely wants you to use it.

Boss you are a big shot! Specially the way you speak english. As you said observe, and I am observing your tutorials very mindfully. But give me some suggestions for flawless English speaking. I hope you will revert back.
Thanks! salute your smart work

dude i like some of your stuff and your very clear explaining. maybe a bit too clear but hey no worries. but this is horrible not beautiful at all. This is a weird horrible ugly version of airbrushed skin that just does not work for skin.

This technique did not work for me with my subject because her skin is naturally smooth, and her hues are darker. She looked like she had freckles even with the image being smaller. I'm just not getting good skin texture on my subjects.

Yeah, I like the steps of the tutorial for doing skin texturing and such. But the texture you made with noise looks so terrible. I mean, mayb eit is considered stylized in some way, but it is not attractive in the least.

this texture is a wanted effect? would have thought these were low quality artifacts from compression on the website, probably originating from exactly the skin texture that you removed so carefully: D

Tips: If u wanna to increase/decrease the value of the threshold or others, you can click into the box, using your arrow keys to adjust accurately.

I'd never do it in a month of Sundays. but the technique could be used for something I haven't thought of yet. Gaining knowledge is always good.

i think if you add emboss after adding smart sharpen and then give it the right values the you have much better and more realistic skin texture

Brilliant insight and presentation, Unmesh. You are one of the few who understand why it is important to explain the why together with how.

great hints on the way like press alt then horizontal vertical moves for brush tool prove you have a good command over the photoshop

Great instruction. I'd go way WAY lower on the size of the texture artifacts, but the technique is solid. Thank you for posting!
