Another good free screen recorder is iSpring FreeCam: it has no time limitations, no watermarks, some editing features, you can record your voice and system sounds and save the video directly to YouTube; the cons are that videos are saved only in wmv format and the editing features are very basic - but there's a Pro version that lets you export the video to mp4, gives you more editing features and record your webcam (though in my opinion it ain't absolutely worth the 230/yr they ask).

I kind of knew that OBS would take the top spot, but honestly, I can't use it. Every time I record with it, it records the sound just fine, but with videos, it records about a minute perfectly. But once that minute passes, I'm left with 1 frame every 4-5 minutes. This has ruined a lot of recordings of gameplay on my part, so that's why I don't use it anymore. I thought it was because I had no Graphics Card, but when I got one, it still did this. (GTX 1080Ti, btw.)

I enjoy every and any video. These straight forward report & opinion pieces are fresh air to a polluted /diluted/reconstituted web of information space. 99% of these I don't use. But having a starting point in which I can at least dip my toe in this ever changing ocean, assures me that the waters aren't as cold & dangerous the times I do go for a swim. I do use Brave however and show everyone how fast a YouTube video plays, every chance I get. Thank You.

Great video! I used a lot of free ones and when I knew I needed something more professional, I bought Camtasia. BUT, if you truly take the time to buckle down and learn OBS Studio, it just might do everything you need, for free!!! AND if you use something and really enjoy it...DONATE some spare change. It's honorable, it's the right thing to do, you will be helping it progress and unbelievably, you will feel good doing it!

For Windows their is a great Free Screen recorder that is open source called Captura which uses FFMPEG to record the screen web cam and separate the audio into video and audio files for editing, the beta version can use the new Media Foundation codecs which will use very little CPU while also recording the screen. You can do hardware encoding with an Nvidia GPU or QuickSync if needed.

1) obs/stream labs obs 2) Nvida shadow play 3) AMD relive - the three most used to reliable one's - 4) MSI afterburner (FREE seriously is free but isn't the most user friendly can be confusing for some) 5) fraps ( not free - but why not it's a OG piece of software to most know of it) 6) bandai cam (also NOT FREE but another long term one)

Always remember free items are tricky. Honestly speaking, if you do need a recorder for your work or recording game, I think you guys should try paid ones, like RecMaster, moviva etc, They all did a great job. Choose the one fulfill your needs. Some are also offering giveaway. Why not give it a try? OBS is not friendly for beginners.

I currently use a licensed copy of TechSmith s Snagit, but on a recent free upgrade I began getting screen pop up s asking me to upgrade (must pay to upgrade). The pop up s cannot be stopped and I don t want to upgrade as there isn t a compelling reason to and I am tired of the pop up s so I may change.

I have OBS, the only thing I don't like from it is for making a YouTuber video, it will only give a 1920X1080 output maximum resolution which isn't enough for nowadays quality. I rather use GeForce experience recorder from my graphic card updated soft ( I have a GTX 1070). Works much better ;))

For the other low spec lads: Fbx is definitely the best if you can afford the pro version. I got it before it went paid, so I still have the full version. Great quality, easy to use, and the FPS decrease is barely noticeable. The next best after that is probably ShareX, which is completely free.
