tinction home ab workout program here When it comes to the best home ab exercise, the discussion has to start with what the true function of the abs really are. While some think the answer is planks and that the main role of the abdominal muscles is to crunch, it-s actually quite opposite in function. The abs primary responsibility is to stabilize and protect the spine while funneling power transfer up and down the kinetic chain without loss of power. That said, it is the anti-rotational and anti-extension function of the ab muscles that needs to get trained if you want to get the strongest and most developed abs possible. In this video, I show you the best home abs exercise that you can do to accomplish both goals. While some may think that planks are the best choice, they aren-t quite right. While planks definitely train anti-extension of the spine they don-t do so in a challenging enough way to make a difference in most experienced lifters. In order to really work the abs you have to up the difficulty of the ab exercise a bit more. Enter the ab wheel rollouts. The ab rollouts are a great way to challenge even the most veteran gym goer. That is, if you do this exercise correct. Far too many people will break out the ab roller and proceed to do this killer ab exercise incorrectly. It can quickly become a back killer if you don-t do it with correct form. To perform this home ab exercise king properly you need to: 1. Position the ab wheel directly beneath your shoulders. 2. Contract your glutes to establish a posterior pelvic tilt. You should hold this throughout the exercise. 3. Start by moving the wheel and the hips out together. Do not move just the arms. 4. When the torso is in one straight line, then move the arms only as far out as you can. Return the wheel back to the start by performing a straight arm pulldown motion with your arms while never letting up on the tension in the core. This home ab exercise when performed correctly is an incredible way to build impressive strength in your abs and core and help you get a strong six pack, provided your nutrition is where it needs to be. If you-re looking for a complete home workout program that gives you the meal plans needed to get your abs ripped and showing year round, then head to and get the bodyweight only ATHLEAN Xero program

Great video and good tip. :) You should analyse a bit advanced version, also-from -standing- position or from feet to the floor, not -only- knees. Good technique, I got to remember that, but there is one more-yes, you should be aware of hip movement and arms position, but in the final stage not extending your body totaly, therefore keeping a bit flexed abs position (exactly because of the back issue) or to visualise it, to be something like angry cat on her/his nails in rounded stance. :) What do you think about that?

Jeff, you used a thick knee pad, though you didn't comment on that. Is that just for knee comfort or for elevating your knees? In any case, I tried using a pair of 4-inch-thick foam yoga blocks. I dug out my neglected ab wheel -- which, like yours, also has the wheels separated a bit, though in my case I had to do the separating myself by disassembling the thing and cutting a small piece of PVC pipe to put inbetween them. It's good to have another ab tool in the arsenal for such a small price.

Hey Jeff something I learned recently was that I was doing a lot of my ab work all wrong because I ended up working my hip flexors more than the abs. I realized this when I saw that I kept my back straight for a lot of ab exercises, rather than curling my body inward and targeting ab contraction.
Could you talk about the iliopsoas muscle group and how it works together with the abs and how you can isolate your ab work from the hip flexors? Thanks!

just asking: what do you think about the kneeling CableCrunch (aka Salam) + the best bodyweight/no equipment ab-excercise for hyperlordose-patients (imo StomachVacuums combined with Hip-Extension and FrogLegged-FunctionCrunch; FrogLegged = knees flared outward to exclude the Hip-Flexors, Function = slowly roll up from top to bottom until LumbarSpine is slightly above the ground; trains up to 3upper compartments of the AbdominusRectus)

Ive been reading a lot of negative comments on BodyBuilding. com about Jeff being fake and a con, and the only people who support him on the forums have only 2-4 posts which are all related to Athlean X.
Most people are saying he never trained the New York Mets and I only found one article on MensFitness about Jeff
Dont get me wrong I use the program too and have bought AX1 NXT and Xero but i'm having my doubts

Thanks Jeff, like always very informative. I'm completing the 2nd month of the Athlean X program and I really love it! I lobbied a friend to workout with me and we can't wait to go to the next Athlean program. I'm trying to incorporate stretching in my weekly routine. what about doing a video for a daily stretching routine to be done before we go to sleep? Thanks,

Jeff you are a big light on nutrition, diet and exercise. Great to hear the truth. healthy natural foods, no fads no diets, and instruction on exercise. My old flat mate lived off peanut butter and vegemite sandwiches and combined with good exercise had an amazing physique. Love the videos. Always use the wheel - now i use it correctly! Thanks

HI Jeff,
Is it possible that the 'best' ab routine can be the only ab routine to start off with? Meaning doing this maybe for 3 sets of 15 or 20? Is there something else you would mix with this for a full ab workout or it this best done as maybe a nightly filler in between other workouts or at the end of the day?
Thanks.

Jeff, I do these from my toes I can see my abs under about a quarter inch of fat so I know once I lose the fat on my belly the muscles the roller hits are going to look great but I'm wondering is what exercises complement the above wheel especially in the lower back? . FYI I do suffer from arthritis in my middle and lower back.

Jeff i think there is bodyparts way more important than the abs. Id love to see more videos about backpain, improving chest or how to hit lats lats proper. Me, and probably a lot of other people watching your videos dont even train abs on a daily basis so your chanel would be way more interesting to us if it werent all about abs.
