Its simple. when i was doing shoulder raises and just moving weight with momentum i had some shoulder development( and i was just focusing on getting weight up because more weight = more gains - i used to think like that) now i do it fully isolated without a bit of momentum and with only focus on shoulders (so much that even my biceps, triceps and traps are relaxed. I do them with 8kg tops and my shoulders are bigger than most of steroid users in my gym. and they are all like: oh you lift girly weights and all i do is smile to them because they will never have shoulders like me. The problem with studies about mind-muscle connection is that you need subjects that are really into mind-muscle development because if you put regular gym goers (90% of gym people dont have any mind-muscle connection at all) you cant have a good results. People with proper mid and rear delts development should be the ones used for studies about mind-muscle connection because doing studies with regular gym goes will not show proper results period

Scientists use big words but dont have a clue at the best of times because there usually arrogantly trying to get there name on an award or in a journal etc, they use biased tools, instuments to match a conclusion that suits there own ends. For starters the notion of your mind and muscle are not connected when doing any task wether your completly focused or other wise is rediculas in itself, subconcious movement is the most powerful movement period so powerful if you try to block the body could rupture, you could seizure, bones can break but also enables you to move without concious thought which is slow in comparrision. learn to inderstand YOUR body and do what works for you. These joker scientists test medication on white mice knowing full well other mice react diffrently because of the melanin in there biology yet they publish there flawed work as fact then make medicine accordingly with the results if anything there dangerous.

I agree with your position on the quads' mind-muscle hypertrophy discussion in the Schoenfeld study, based not only on reasoning with common sense regarding the biceps' data, but also from personal experience. within the last two months I have drastically reduced the weight I use on ALL of my lifts (by about half) and intensely focused on SQUEEZING the muscle being used, and not only have I grown more muscle in the last two months than my whole first year of intense weightlifting, my legs have especially grown in size. Even though I used to squat about two plates and now only a bit over half a plate, and would deadlift two and a half and now only one, focusing on squeezing my muscles and feeling the stetch in the right places has been a massive gain-changer. PS You have been one of the people who has encouraged the mind-muscle connection, so I thank you very much for it: D

I disagree with external cues instead of mind muscle connection focus for the deadlift and the bench press. But you have experience as a competitive power lifter, so you are probably heaps and bounds more knowledgeable than me on this. When it comes to the DL, I find it really hard to lock the lats and the upper back when preparing for the lift, so I'm at a stage on my training where I'm improving my ability to feel my lats and upper back so my DL can be more stable. Of course, after removing slack from the bar, I would say external cues like pushing the ground with your feet and the hip thrust at the end are more important. And regarding the bench press, the all-mighty mountain dog has a video for feeling your chest which has obscenely improved my bench press. Would love to know your opinion on this.

By 1. 21 into the video I can tell you the scientific argument is TOTAL BS. An academic doesn't know how to body build. Its a classic example of theoretical reality vs practical reality. I talk about it all the time in my industry. Something can be said in thoery and IS theoretically correct but fatally flawed in reality. So for example. you can watch videos - learn from books - do an excercise with what you BELIEVE to be the best form possible but if you are not focusing on the specific muscle you want to activate the theoretically correct form may not and probably is not hitting the muscle you want in the way you want. ONLY by being 100% MINDFUL of the muscle and connecting to that muscle very deliberately can you guarantee you are hitting the muscle properly. Well. thats my 2 penneth.

Im hyper sensitive in terms of what I can feel and isolate in my body and Ive been following a more intuitive approach to weightlifting. I can turn on upper/lower/mid chest, long/short tricep heads, and all three bicep heads mentally and I have to in order to get the progress I want. The idea theres science types who say its all range of motion and mind/body connection doesnt matter kind of throws me off because I know the difference between turning off my biceps more and focusing on chest during bench press is a 100% mental switch. Maybe the mind body connection isnt all about isolating a muscle, but its more about being able to sense and turn off other muscles that are overcompensating during the lift

Could it be the case that the MMC actually is more or less good technique where people use no body english and all? Which in turn will target the specific muscle more? Because compound lifts are very prone to using more support muscles instead of overloading which makes the increase of strenght (and mass) in one specific muscle kind of hard as you're only as strong as your weakest link (which will hinder progressive overload for stronger muscles) and you see a huge difference when a total bro butchers a set of say- bicep curls with extremely bad form which shows exactly the same for an isolation exercise.

I lost strength not cause I was out of the gym for months which I was first but got back again, I was out for 2 months. Got back then stopped going for two weeks. Here's why I lost strength one two weeks of no working out which doesn't really do much but at that time, I wasn't eating good well I was but I wasn't eating enough through out the day. So I'm assuming if you stop going to the gym for 2 weeks and no eating enough food or eating good at all you can lose strength. But I can also mean how many calories and carbs you've eaten through out the day.

When i use anything on the right side of my body i don't feel any connection. Say bicep curls, i feel my entire arm getting tired where as the left arm just my bicep. I have been trying to flex my right trap for a loooong time, i can do the left just fine. Those same examples go for the entire right side. It gets even weirder than that. My left is dominant hand for writing and any finesse activity but my right side is stronger/can lift more. My left side also gets more sore, sometimes the right not even being sore one bit.
