You're about to meet someone new that also had that. actually twice. that I know of. a couple of years ago, just having routine blood work done, I got a call from the nurse, saying that I needed to go to the emergency room, cause of this muscle enzyme was extremely high. Of course I never went. I reasoned, it was high cause of my workouts. my style of working out, is low volume, but training to failure. then, last year, I had a really bad chest cold, and I went to the hospital thinking I had pneumonia, after they ran some blood work. they tell me I have Rhabdo. and how dangerous it is to my organs. I was in the hospital for 4 days. now this had zero to do with my chest cold. and i'm not natural either. so it's a wonder how i keep getting this. I wondering if its the going to failure for a long time, might be doing it. as of now, I'm taking 3 days off, limiting my sets even more. and taking more time off between workouts. I went today to work back and got zero pump. I wouldn't be surprised if my muscle enzymes were very high again.

Had it after a near-no sleep night, low hydration levels followed by a squat rep test and a wingate power test. Result: 2 Days intensive care, 5 days stationary. Symptoms were blood in urine (bowl was basically red) and drastically reduced ranged of motion accompanied by weakness and severe muscle pain. Recovery was nothing beyond a little annoying, went to the doctor straight away and started drinking massive amounts of fluid the moment I realized what i had. Doctors couldn't pinpoint the main cause. From my literature research, exertional rhabdomyolysis seems to be more likely to develop after a big change in training intensity and/or in de-conditioned individuals (think coming back after a break, low hydration levels (or training in heat) and very strenuous exercise. As I am no doctor and as there was no clear consensus in the literature I found, I can't vouch for the correctness of this information - so please do not take this information as medical advice, as it is not. when i first started lifting i had a similar thing happen. i went for a week straight and pushed myself way too much for a beginner. the following week i could barely move from how sore i was, and my urine started getting darker. i thought it was just because i wasnt drinking enough water so i drank more but it wasnt getting lighter. i googled what it could be and came upon rhabdo. went to the er right after and the doctors were shocked and kept asking me what i did, because they couldnt believe i had gotten rhabdo just from lifting. that was the most sore ive ever been, and the pain was excruciating. turned out my urine was dark because i was peeing blood and if i had waited any longer I probably would have had kidney failure. the doctors told me i shouldnt lift ever again, and i also had some genetic testing done to see if i was prone to it occurring again. i started to lift again 6 months later but this time i made sure to take it easier and just slowly build up my strength.

My husband was diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis probably 3 or 4 years ago. He has always lifted and incorporated cardio, but at the time wasnt really focused on any high intensity lifting or cardio. He ended up trying to do the Murph (darn CrossFit) at a speed that was faster than one of his buddys, successfully completed it, but within a few days his lats and arms could barely be moved without excruciating pain. I had read about rhabdo, and we ended up going to get bloodwork done on him, at which point he was recommended to go check into the ER ASAP. His CK levels werent even registering on the scale at the hospital, and he ended up staying there for 3 days (should have been more, but hes stubborn. It was a huge scare, and he did take quite a bit of time off following the incident. Hes more conscientious of rest days and what his limits are now.

Hi Jeff. I had to look up what Rhabdomyolysis was because I never heard of it before. I'm glad I did, and I'm very grateful you shared this with us. I'm grateful because my son has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He was diagnosed at 1 and he is now 10 years old. I have spent the last 9 years trying to learn about everything I can about Duchenne, treatments, medical procedures, equipment needed, and so much more. In all of my networking talking with doctors, nurses, and families, I have never heard of Rhabdomyolysis. So needless to say, I was deeply worried when I read that people with Duchenne can have this issue, but I was not surprised. I don't want to bore you with a long drawn out message, so thank you for sharing this and I hope your partner has a full recovery.

I had rhabdomyolysis last year. It was a very severe case after a leg workout where I was working with a personal trainer who was really trying to push me and I didn't wanna wimp out. A day later, I was sore. The next day, I couldn't walk, my calves were EXTREMELY swollen, and my urine was the color of watered down coffee. I go to a UC and the doc took one look at my urine and said oh shit You need to go to the emergency room, now. I was in the hospital for 7 straight days with them monitoring the CPK levels in my blood. If I had waited 1 more day, my kidneys could have failed. Moral of the story: go hard, but listen to your body. And rest is just as important and training and diet. Live to fight another day guys

Thats awesome Im working on getting to 405 now, I bassically just did instinct lifting for the last three years been a long time since I followed a program but I started cutting recently and started a 5x5 program and my strength is way up on all my compounds and my volume is up LOTS i used to do a set of 225x5-8 then id throw on 265 for a couple then do a few singles of 275-315 now Im doing 5 sets of 5 averaging 270 on my most recent chest day, so, 5 reps over 225 went to 25 reps over 245 and Im down 10 pounds its good encouragement to see someone else drop 10 pounds and still be pring as well, I think since i was just instinct training so long I was slacking hard so Im breaking the recomp rule

After going to the gym on and off for several months, i did legs for the fifth time since then. I was sweating so much when doing average weight on squats, but i noticed when i went heavy, I was feeling dizzy. So i stop and worked out back instead. Next day in the morning i tried getting down from bed, but i couldnt. I was in extreme pain. I could not bend my legs. The pain was absurdely high. I ended up almost crawling to my car so i can go to the hospital. I was diagnosed with rhabdomyolosis with 40k ck. I stood there for about 7 days. i had 3 or 4 shots of morphine and some other pain killers. After 1 month of this incident, i started working out again, BUT DRINKING A LOT OF WATER.

I actually got Rhabdo a few years back. A personal trainer gave me electroshock muscle stimulation (you work against the muscle contractions. My muscles were more sore than I've ever experienced and my pee was brown due to my muscles breaking down. I spent a week in the hospital so they could pump fluids through my body to keep my kidneys from becoming clogged up, in fact the doctor told me had a waited another day to go to the hospital it would have done irreversible damage to my kidneys. Fortunately for me, I made a full recovery and my life isn't affected today, however it is a very serious condition that could alter your life forever or end it.
