Ready to learn from my mistakes and how to use cardio as a tool for serious fat loss? I started out just like everyone else does, trying desperately to lose body fat by doing hours and hours of steady state cardio. While it was a great way to watch every damn movie, it wasn't very effective. Then I stumbled upon HIIT but that also had some drawbacks, the biggest one being that if you do it the way you're supposed to it will have a negative effect on your workouts. Recently I started doing what I call 5-10s. You hop on the step mill and start at a pace that you know with a ton of effort you will barely make it to 5 mins. Once you hit the 5 minute mark you crank the intensity every 15-20 seconds until you can't take it anymore. Your goal isn't to get there, it's to push yourself so hard that you can't make it to 10 minutes and this is something I do after EVERY workout. I haven't connected the dots yet and figured out why this is such an effective way to lose fat but I think it has something to do with increasing your V02 max.

I do an hour on the elliptical burning 600 calories, my carb intake is below 100, I have plenty of energy to do whatever I want in the gym, though I feel unsatisfied at the end I ll end with pushing that damn cart with about 150-200 lbs weights with the tension at a loose so I can run ten times back and forth! This always make me feel like my hearts gonna explode! Dude it takes a shit load of time to lose body fat! Thanks to you and your advice on weight training I m down from 233 to 209 in less than six months!

Exercise works differently for everyone; it's important to move. Whatever you find that works and can stick with is best. If you want the real science, here is what's best for improving v02max (One of the most important factors to improve longevity)
1. Polarized training
2. SIT training
3. HIIT training
4. Zone 2
You might find a mix of training strategies beneficial. Again, whatever you're doing as long as you're moving is good.

I've done Hiit, bootcamp, aerobics, zumba, spinning and bodysculpt oh and yoga and out of all of these routines I find boxing and kickboxing to be the best I don't have to wait on a machine and it's fun, plus doesn't feel monotonous like some of the others hense I can keep up the consistency plus I jumrope so I can burn even more and I feels it's easier than some of the other routines.

I do 10 - 15 min fast walk at MAX incline on the treadmill after a workout, it goes real quick and you think back on how you did that session. It soon becomes habit and part of your routine.
As for the jacuzzi jet thing. I found you don't need that if you go in with a 'friend'

Longer steady state cardio works because you can do it everyday whereas you're unlikely to do hiit or an all out 8 minute effort everyday. I mean you could, but you probably wouldn't be able to do it all out everyday and you'd burn yourself out in no time.

Without cardio, YOU don't RUN. I don't want to be THAT GUY who can bench 500 pounds for 10 reps and then follow it up with a 1200 pound leg press for 20 reps but can't run around the building without puking up a lung. Find a balance.

Been doing something similar on the treadmil. Max incline at the fastest speed I can tolerate for 5-10 minutes (usually about 3, makes me want to vomit in my mouth. I'll give the stair master a try. I always look forward to these videos.

The intensity of cardio is all to do with whatever else you're doing. If it affects your recovery, stick to steady-state low intensity. There are still benefits of doing high-intensity cardio 1-2 times a week - but, listen to your body.

Absolutely love the stairmaster. Discovered steady state cardio a couple months back and it worked like a charm, but this is even quicker and seems it may be more effective. Trying this today.

I always did 30 min treadmill followed by wts, foam roller, & stretching. I dropped to 20 min. elliptical due to knee issues. Now it s 7 min warm up and walking day off with increased wts.
