Question: Are underwaters really that important? I have been watching Olympic races, and noticed that a lot of the top finishers actually don't do a lot of dolphin kick off the wall, especially the longer the race gets. But even in 200m races, it seemed pretty common for people to settle for 1 small dolphin kick. And the longer the race, the less dolphin kick they do. They do use a strong kick off the wall, of course. And the reason I ask is because I noticed that the turn and underwaters use a lot more energy, and deplete breath more than just swimming, so I suspect that the energy they use isn't worth it, at least in longer races.

Are kicking on the back vs kicking on the stomach different? I find the underwater dolphin kick for backstroke harder than the normal underwater dolphin kick on the stomach. Do you have any tips for doing that? Also, when doing such kick, we should try not to over-undulate the arm and hand parts right? Are there just the core and the thigh that do the job? Thanks. :D

Thanks for the video. May I ask if there is any conscious movement of the hands / wrists / arms during the dolphin kick. Meaning should you keep them static (they will move only due to the movement of the body due the kick) or tilt them up or down slightly depending on the kick.

In backstroke butterfly and freestyle I find that it helps my kick if I start the kick with my hands so that was I dont need to use as much energy on the kick because the wave that starts with my hands carry through my body until the kick is huge at the end of each kick

Did you know making a streamline for a really long time it make your shoulders go up and it stay there in place so that's why most swimmers have bold shoulders (man shoulders)or some people are already born like that lol

Good instructions. My daughter's coach uses tempo trainer set at 1 sec interval; 2 beeps when pushing off wall in streamline and dolphin kick every 1 sec. She has shown great improvement.

I know a guy who some how goes right to the bottom, and effortlessly glides through the water very fast while staying at the bottom the entire time. I don't know how he does it though.

Great video! Sometimes I feel that my dolphin kick originates from my head and not from my hips, does it mean that I am doing it wrong? Thanks!

this guy made a mistake: this is allowed in freestyle, BUTTERFLY, and backstroke. In breast stroke, you can only do one of those
