Does a 1200 Calorie Diet Work? Is Quick Weight Loss Possible?
video description
I started every day with an oatmeal with a tablespoon of honey and some cinnamon. Then for lunch -160g of baked potato, -120g of proccoli and 200g of chicken breast, every single day up until November, when I started OMAD, even less calories, around 900/day. I drank at lest 3 liters of water, nothing else.
At the beginning I did just easier bodyweight exercises, HIIT 3 times a week, then when I already lost a significant amount of weight I expanded the amount of exercises, so from around august of '21 I was doing a 1. 5 hour full body workout session at home, no equipment, 3 times a week.
As the moment of writing this I lost 33 kgs in 13 months (from 30% to 18% bodyfat, and unfortunately some muscle too, because at that time I wasn't eathing enough protein, now I make up to the required amount with whey, I don't have hunger at all because my body is using bodyfat for energy (also adapted for low calorie intake, sure), I'm more focused, not fatigue or anything at all, I don't even think of food even when it's time to eat.
Of course this is VERY DANGEROUS, not recommended to anybody without consulting to a doctor, but I wanted to do this the wastest way possible, so far it's working for me.
Lastly my willpower was pretty weak like all life long, so if I could, anybody can achieve their weight loss dreams. BELIEVE IN YOURSELVES!
EDIT: forgot the 3 eggs every day, sometimes avocado.

My nutricionist gave me a 1000 calorie diet for two weeks, then 1200 for another two weeks and so on.
When I tought it couldn't be worse he gave me a 800 calorie diet after the christmas holidays.
With these diets I had the worst time ever mentally and it was so hard to study. With the 800 one it was so hard just to do simple tasks as cooking or walking my dog because I felt like I was gonna faint and my mood was terrible. I had a lot of willpower to resist hunger and cravings but somedays I couldn't resist it and ate some of the things I was really craving. As Lucy said willpower is limited.
I felt so restricted that when the two weeks were done I would just binge and eat all of the things I wasn't allowed to.
Luckily I don't have to do the 800 one anymore and actually I didn't even really obtained like an incredible result with this one, my body stayed kinda the same, Idk if it has to do with the stress I experimented.
Right now I am doing a 1200 calorie diet because I find it to be the most sustainable but it still gets hard sometimes.
By the way I'm 18, 73 kg, 162 cm and my BMR is 1400.
Anyways If anyone red all of this, thank you: )
If someone has any advice I will accept it -

I appreciate that you are saying this, because indeed most people don't need to be on 1200 calorie diet to lose weight. But fact is, when you are 4'11- or 148. 5 cms tall like I am, this can actually be not too bad of a deficit. I used to not count calories when I wanted to lose weight, and I used to be really hungry, but it's specifically when I started counting calories and eating my 1200 calories that I realized I was not eating nearly enough on my previous weightloss trials. Now I feel fine and I have more energy than when I was not counting calories. I never knew what portions meant because I didn't know what my proper portions were, because I never knew how much my own body needed. With someone my height, it's really possible to find that 1200 calories is actually really enough. It also depends on what you eat within these 1200 calories, when I upped my protein intake and increased the number of meals at the start of the day, I felt really good and not hungry in the least. What I want to say is: A certain amount of calories shouldn't be demonized, it should really just come down to what's enough for your body and what's making you feel good.

Amazing video!
I lost 80lbs so far using Noom. I love the aspect of Noom that works on the psych aspect of weight loss and the fact that it talks about BMR and calculating your TDEE; however, they also start any woman wanting to lose weight fast at 1200cal/day which most of us don-t necessarily know isn-t right at the time. They don-t talk about TDEE and creating a calorie deficit until a couple of weeks in.
I was 269lbs going from probably 3000cals/day to 1200cal/day.
Thankfully I caught on pretty quickly that I didn-t need to eat that few calories and when when I upped my cals I continued to lose weight at the same speed.
I do think learning how to fit your treat foods into a calorie deficit diet really does help with sustainability.

I myself am on a VLCD and that-s just what works for me and I can-t get out Of that lol I try to eat more calories but have difficulty losing weight. i mean I-m 4-11 so unfortunately my body simply requires less in general. Sometimes I do experience hunger and I do. I don-t punish myself I-ll eat a couple donuts if o want. But other then that I don-t expirience massive hunger on a day to day basis. Thankfully I am 20 pounds away from my goal so I-ll start slowly adding more calories until I reach my maintenance caloric limit I do calisthenics beginner and exercise 6x a week but honestly I guess it-s just my way lol it just works for me

One of your best videos so far, I think! It-s great that you always shine a light on the fact that physical and mental health don-t always correlate. Yes, getting fit has made me happier in many ways but it has certainly not solved everything and it has also produced new challenges, especially mentally and regarding how I approach other things in life. I know it-s made me a more productive, reliant and self-content person but I-ve become more self-critical and even more body-conscious in a way as well. As I said, this is a really good video because it touches on so many things that many people are experiencing but don-t feel heard for.

I'm just wondering on this topic, although I fully agree with the science that was explained behind it all. I'm not near an average height, I'm 151cm (around 5ft) and if I look at trustworthy calculators for an idea on my calories. well they are around 1200 to 1400, which I suspect is due to my height, as I have compared the results with some of my friends calories (I did this because mine sounds so low. And this isn't a huge difference from what I eat naturally. So how does one then know how much is too low and unhealthy, or how much one can even safely cut for a slight deficit?

I just upped my limit to 1200-1400, generally staying around 1200. Upped. After a sharp cut. I was hoping to maintain, but I have been gaining. I'm VERY specific about tracking my calories, and lift 6 times a week. Zero cheat days. I weigh daily and keep weekly averages to see trends. I've gained 2lbs since upping then. Makes no sense, as my BMR should be 1200-something! I do have PCOS, but even then, it shouldn't make that much of a difference.
I can only assume it's an issue of water retention & food weight. I guess only time will tell.

Last time I went on a diet I consumed around 1000 to 1200 kcal per day. Once I started to see results it felt quite easy to do and it became an obsession. I lost weight very quickly but I should have know it wouldn't be sustainable. Reached my goal weight and managed to maintain it for a few months until I started to crave food like crazy, so much that I just couldn't stop myself and gained it all back (even more than before. Lesson learned. I'm struggling so much right now to lose weight the -right way-.

I'm 5'3- and 69 years old. When I use a calorie deficient calculator is puts me in the 1200 calorie range. I track everything and eat at least 30% protein, 45% carbs & 25% fat daily. I do at least 30 minutes of low impact dance aerobics or 30 minutes walking 5-6 days a week. I currently weigh 145 & would like to lose 8 more pounds. I am losing approx. 1/2 pounds a week at 1200 calories per day. The last thing I want to do is slow down my metabolism at my age. I feel that I am on the right track. any advice?
