What about knowing self defense or carrying a good weapon when out and about. Unless the robbers have a weapon displayed I'm just gonna throat punch or arm break and leave them hollering. Never go against a gun. this goes without saying but if they don't have something displayed at you and are just telling you: give me this-that or else. Throat punch, pulling a knife, Quick slash to the face/hands/what ever you can get and running away. what I hate are those damn E Robbers, You know the kind that gets your card info and racks up charges. There's no way you can beat those people up as you don't know who it is usually.

I'm from sweden and went on a trip to Italy, i was robbed just yesterday and im still trying to come over the fact that my things are gone forever, luckily they didn't steal our passports. It seems that they could've stolen them but didn't. There were other tourists that also got robbed on the same street and i just wish that i had been more clever and hid my bag and other stuff. We did file a police report and everything else. It's just that a few things that was stolen was things i had made myself and all that work, all those hours for nothing, and the robbers probably threw it away because it has no value for them. :(

I had an umbrella stolen once in Brazil. but I might have just forgotten it: ) I actually have not been robbed personally. My family on the other hand.
My mom was robbed once in Barcelona. My wife was robbed in Vicenza, Italy. My dad has been targeted in Paris (cops grabbed the girls right away) and Rome (when he noticed his garbage from his pocket on the floor of the metro. But he never lost anything.
I have lots of friends who were not so lucky though.

You can do anything you want, but I would be careful as if they have a knife or worse you may end up in even worse trouble than a lost wallet. I have pushed my way out of a circle of guys trying to mug me on the metro in Lisbon as well as pushed a pickpocket to the ground when he tried to get me, and he just made a sign like he was going to slit my throat, but in the end I was OK. But be careful.

In my case, after filing a report, the policeman just shrugged and said, We have a drug problem. Looking back, I don't blame him. It wasn't major. It was just theft of unattended items. But my guess is, if it involved a substantial amount of money the police still wouldn't have done much. There are just too many occurences.

TheZappster99 Actually I grabbed his hand while it was in my back pocket as he tried to rob me, held it while I zipped up then realized it was a guy trying to rob me and not the friend I was with and pushed him to the ground. He ran off saying he was going to slit my throat. Good times: )

Two knife point robberies on the Lisbon metro, a pickpocket (i stopped) picking the backpack of a high school girl on the Lisbon metro, a guy trying to pick my pocket while i was peeing (after he just finished peeing next to me. And that was just Lisbon: )

Thanks. I did not know that. I have my insurance through work and sometimes get an extra policy with AAA too. Worth it especialy if you miss a flight. thanks for the tip i will remember that for next time. Cheers!

Renters' insurance can cover items stolen while traveling if you have it. Sometimes it's not worth it because of the deductible, but I was able to get over $2000 back with a $250 deductible.

Hi! Thank you very much! That's my biggest fear when I travel.
And I'm sorry, but for non-english speaking people it's hard to listen to you and read all the text when it's long: )
