Traveling abroad can lead to all kinds of adventures. One adventure that no one likes, but does happen is Montezuma's Revenge, or Traveler's Diarrhea. This common occurance does happen to travelers whenever they may travel to new countries or regions. It is caused mostly by contaminated food and contaminated water. So here we go through what you can do if you do get traveler's diarrhea. Some Basic Tips: 1. Make sure all food you eat is properly prepared. Undercooked meats, bad shellfish and other foods can cause some of the worst cases of traveler's diarrhea. 2. Drink bottled water or at least make sure that the tap water is drinkable. 3. Have medicine with you just in case, Immodium AD, Pepto-Bismol, Gas-X are all typical medicines in the US that travelers should take with them in case Montezuma's revenge strikes. 4. Street food can be a great experience while abroad, but do take care. If the locals are not eating at the food truck, best you not eat there either. Please note, the temple/pyramid on the thumbnail is Mayan, not Aztec

I had hugely bad cramps and Diarrhea in Puorta Vallarta about 30
years ago when I was there. I was drinking water from this big bottle
in the hotel, which was likely tap water. Huge stomach cramps and
a lot of abdominal pain, and just water for stools -- not fun.
What I decided to do, which worked, was to just eat fish and drink
Corona beer. That beer has very little alcohol in it, and I figured it was
made with distilled water. I think I'm right that all beers are. Also fish
is fish, wherever you go, as long as it's fresh your OK. Only problem
was is that I lost 12 - 15 pounds. Looked very skinny.
Today being more sophisticated, I'd only drink bottled water from a
reputable manufacturer, and would have no ice as it could made with
ordinary tap water. I would also peel all tomatoes and apples etc. as
they were likely washed in tap water, and I'd almost bet on it.
I'd also go to the doctor, and get a prescription for Ciprofloxacin, which is
a strong anti - biotic, that kills these types of bacteria. Lots of traveller's
carry this Ciprofloxacin and or Imodium, with them. Very smart.
Remember -- this is bacterial warfare!

Eygpt, is the worst. Money there are bugs on it. Immodium doesnt work. You have to get the stuff the locals use. The good news if you tell them at the pharmacy you have an upset tum the price gos up.
Mexico second time I went I almost ended up in a hospital that gos by the title, the London school of tropical medicine. Apparently there is a parasite that is in Mexico that can end up in the gut.
Southern europe, the reason everyone drinks bottled water, they use extra chlorine to kill off any bugs in some countries, hence if you drink it, its the chlorine that gives you the trots. Salad is the stuff that normally gets people because its washed in the local tap water.
Croatia, is the best of the southern european countries, you can drink the tap water. Its straight off the mountains. Toilets, even in small cafes really clean. Never had a problem. Compared to Greece/ Turkey where more care is required. Shell fish, never eat shell fish from warm water your just asking for it.
Happy holidays everyone. Mark its about time you went to weight watchers.

UV is crap. Get a waterfilter, $30 tops. No batteries, fits in your pocket. There is also more expensive filters that can be fitted directly to a standard faucet.
It is probably safe to eat highly acidic food where bacteria cannot grow, or is killed quickly. Some spices also change the PH and make the food safer to eat since bacteria and parasites require certain conditions to live in.
Near a place where i used to work, we had a small restaurant nicknamed Bacillen (bacillus, got warnings early and i never ate there, even established places can be as bad to eat at, food trucks and hot dog stands have worked fine for me.

I remember my trip to Italy and the food was so good everything was wonderful and then nowhere Montezuma's Revenge got me. I require a lot of care due to my health and my nurse had to hurry up take me to the bathroom and she had to give me a bit of Imodium as well and when I get infections or something with my stomach or any part of my body she has to watch really carefully because it can go from being a mild thing to being a major concern quick when I got Montezuma's Revenge I was in the bathroom for an hour my nurse had to help me for an hour. TMI I know but believe me when you travel it can get you

Im currently in Cusco, Peru. Something I found that has helped me is to eat a cigarette. Doesnt sound beneficial, but the nicotine from the tobacco will kill the bacteria causing the infection. Some organic tobacco works wonders on killing it quick. Im not a pharma type. Rather eat a cig than visit a doctor any day.

Hey guys! If you to Monterrey Mexico. There the tap water is already purified and wont make you sick. It is even better water than the American tap water. The rest of the Mexico doesnt have purified tap water.

My favorite aunt has traveled to all 7 continents and has been to over 50 different countries. She strongly suggests everyone insists on no ice in the drinks and to never raw eat fruits and vegetables. :(

So I keep hearing this and I just gotta ask - what is the deal with throwing the toilet paper into a can next to the toilet? Why not just put it in the toilet WHERE IT BELONGS?
