Safe Travel in 2020 seems daunting. But it doesnt have to be. Thanks to the incredible efforts of aviation professionals in airports and on airlines, its a very safe proposition to travel in 2020. In this video, Ill go behind the scenes to see how airports like Raleigh Durham International (RDU) and airlines like American Airlines are working to ensure that air travel is as safe as it possibly can be during these unprecedented times. This is a trip report about an American Airlines 737 First Class Flight. But its so much more! Ill travel with American Airlines in First Class onboard a Boeing 737, but not before getting the inside scoop on how airports and airlines are going the extra mile when it comes to air travel. Theres also a surprise at 4: 52 when we got to see a special visitor to RDU a C-32, which is a modified Boeing 757 flown for Executive Transport by the US Air Force. This particular airplane had the Vice President onboard, which meant it went by the callsign, Air Force Two! While no activity is 100% safe, according to the Centers for Disease control, traveling on this American Airlines 737 was relatively low risk. Why? Because of how air circulates and is filtered on airplanes, most viruses dont spread easily on flights. The air on todays commercial airplanes is replaced with clean, fresh air every two to three minutes and the filters onboard trap 99. 99% of particles. Further, everyone is facing the same direction, not toward each other, all passengers are required to wear face coverings, and the air blows downward. In other words, again, while nothing is 100% safe in these uncertain times, air travel is a relatively low-risk. For more about what RDU is doing to ensure you can Fly Confident

I'm say this. I bought the ale seat and middle window seat for my me and my spouse to deter someone from buying the middle seat as alot other did as well. I'm on to the game you middle seat buyers are doing. You think you buying the middle seat is going to force the other two people who know each other to offer you the window or ale seat so they can sit next to each other. Nooo buddy you buy that seat you going sit right there no matter how uncomfortable it is. Also I'm the type to keep checking the seat chart to see if someone bought the seat. So you middle seat buyers buy the seat hoping the buyer of the ale and window seat buy other seats or pay more money for the front seats and leave you with the whole row. Ohhhh no buddy I refused to let you finnese your way into having a whole row to your self. U going sit right there in that middle seat

I got bumped into first from DFW to BHM yesterday. Didn't qualify for 500MU, but the flight ended up overbooked so all status members got bumped up. It was a pleasant experience, would have had a drink but it was too early in the morning and too short of a flight.
Thanks for sharing your experience on a longer flight though! It's nice to see an honest and straightforward vlog about flying today without over exaggeration.
Also, that editing at 4: 50 was spot on. Felt like I was watching a movie.

I really have to take issue with your statement that airplane travel is relatively safe. It is much safer now that the airlines have implemented these safety protocols. However, being in a confined space for several hours increases your risk substantially. Until Airlines install sterilizers in the air circulation systems the air won't be virus or bacteria free.

You realize that hospitals are empty, docs, nurses, orderlies all sitting around
All of this is exactly what the TSA was after 9/11
Security theatre, no one has died of the regular flu this year, people rushing to take an experimental vaccine not approved by the FDA, insanity
Then you have Fauci, a used car salesman who says to wear the whole friggin box

Too bad my biggest issue with American Airlines is virtually anytime I have to fly with them they always have the oldest most dated fleet I have yet to be on American Airlines flight that has TVs or upgraded seats despite the fact that typically their flight cost more than the other legacy carriers or even the low-cost carriers American is my last choice

Unfortunately those disinfectants are being used incorrectly. They have to sit on the surfaces for 30-60 seconds depending on the manufacturer. Just wiping only reduces a small amount of germs. I suggest wiping yourself but look on the back of the bottle or package to see how long to let it sit for.

Just cant agree about AA. Have flown a lot lately and Alaska and Delta are not only blocking middle seats in coach but also blocking seats in First. AA is packing the planes as full as they can get them. So I just respectfully disagree that all airlines are doing everything they can to keep us safe.

RDU is a beautiful airport and one of my favorites! Ive been on 34 flights with 3 different airlines, since March (including a recent Mexico trip) and have been impressed by all of the new and evolving safety measure by the airlines. Delta is still my favorite by far with their 50% capacity rule.

Has anyone done a review of United first class meal service 4-hour flights? Their website seems to indicate sandwiches are only offered on flights DEPARTING from certain airports. Very impressive to see AA gave a sandwich on a 2-hour flight! Thanks so much for this video, very reassuring!

I was actually searching out information about AA first class but after watching I'm 100% sure i will gain more by watching the next suggested video for me wich is an interview with Savannah the Crackhead. Frick dude that was an embarrassingly worthless video. Frik u very much.

I think now flying is much better due to the intense cleaning among major carriers, before airlines didn't clean that well at all, usually just had someone pick up trash, not really wipe down each tray table etc, even international flights weren't being that well until now.

Hey, loved the video. I live seeing you do videos about our area. I grew up in Eden and now lio in Eastern NC. If you get a chance you should head up to Meadows of Dan, and Floyd Va. Not to far from Greensboro and the Blue ridge Parkway would make a great video.

I notice the cleaning crew was wearing gloves which is great but they were touching tray tables and seats before cleaning them and then started to clean the dirty tables and seat. It's hard to clean and not touch your dirty gloves on what you just clean.

Lawyer, you were an unsuccessfull one. You spent my 9 min of my life on something that could have taken 3 min and at the end, you did not show how people were seated in the cabin, were they separated, was the middle seat empty, etc. Simple job, you fail.
reply

Jeb, I hope you realize that you were flying on a unicorn that day - an AA 737 that still has IFE screens! Add in the fact that in First Class you were offered a sandwich as an alternative to the cheese tray makes it even more of a rare flight! Lol.

Over the past 20 years, AA has devolved from the leader in domestic air transportation to a flying bus. Service and quality are absolutely horrible, to the point where you wouldn't be wrong if you painted a huge greyhound bus symbol on the tail.

If you can fly, you can go vote in person. If you grocery shop, you can vote in person. If you go to work, you can vote in person. As far as the aircraft cleaning, I'm not really sure why this wasn't done already before the pandemic. No excuse.

You should try AVL Asheville Regional its a great airport and the runway is right there at street level you can see planes sitting and the active runways. RDU is nice as well but check out AVL you might be surprised
reply

Did they leave every other seat empty? I am thinking about going to visit my spouse's family in Bolivia in a few months and I would like to know that they keep every other seat empty. thanks for your video

I try to only fly AA, its always an enjoyable experience. My last flight was from Dallas to Philadelphia, PA and then home to Watertown, NY. I drove to Texas otherwise I would have flown to Dallas on AA.
reply

In your opinion, is a domestic first class ticket worth the extra expense in these times, or would you say that you could get a relatively similar experience in premium economy like Delta's Comfort Plus?
reply

I was at RDU a couple months back. Watching AF1 land and in the terminal using the bathroom. Ha! Also, cant wait to hear that 777 on the way to Heathrow flying out over my house in the evenings!
reply

Would love to learn more about the behind the scenes at RDU. It's my home airport now, and I used to spend a lot of time here, although not since February. The new-ish Terminal 2 really is nice.

Any golf cart service for those hard to walk long distances or handicapped? Non ADA compliant don t bother to use this airport ever! No Braille! Everything touch less! Violates federal law!
reply

Man, it's great to see you back in the air, Jeb. I lived in NC for years and I always flew out of RDU. It's fantastic to see how it has evolved. Thanks for another great video!
reply

I really missed these videos, I have no idea why but I really really enjoyed this one. Nostalgia I guess
Also Jeb has a voice that makes me wish he read bedtime stories.

reply

Wow this is much better food on a quicker flight than the video today on Delta. I cannot believe AA is offering better catering and that plane looked like a laboratory.
reply

Too bad things are back to normal and these stringent cleaning methods are now gone. Back to filthy tray tables and seats on most of AA flights these days
reply

I had a AF friend so was cabin crew on AF2which doubles as the Secretary of State aircraft. Fun fact; were trained alongside Deltas 757 cabin crew.
reply

At least they wash everything now! New airplane smell means breathing in toxic cleaning chemicals! Bull is eminence like polite and in this advertising
