That's so strange, I was 11 when I flew on one of the first United 777-200's from Dulles to Heathrow in 1995, the slick new Battleship Gray livery. It was a space-age plane that couldn't possibly be replaced for many decades. To see the advanced variants like the LR's and ER's retiring already is just crazy.
I remember telling my dad how the plane would have a FOLD OUT LCD SCREEN! Of course I'm talking about the awkward little 6 ish things that folded up from the side of the seat lol! It was absolutely amazing at the time though. To see your walk through the cabin and those great seats and IFE is just crazy to me. I also pointed out those massive engines and how slow the fans were rotating at cruise due to their immense power and high bypass ratio (okay, I was a nerdy kid)
It's sad how time flies - I certainly assumed these birds had a lot more life in them, but their future as cargo aircraft seems bright.

Here are the fates of the Delta 777s as of 04/2023:
For the 777-200LRs, most have gone to Federal Express to be converted into freighters, but one went to CargoJet Airways, and at least three went to Air India.
As for the older 777-200ERs, most were bought by investment firm Wilmington Trust, but one to went to Gridiron Air, the charter airline for the Arizona Cardinals.
While I do miss the Delta 777s, at least these planes have been given new lives instead of facing the scrappers torch.
Hope this information helps anyone wondering where these planes are now.

Its so sad to see the 777 is gone forever in Delta's fleet: ( hopefully the A350 will do a good job at taking its place in the near future. The best memories I have of the 777 in deltas fleet is perhaps the iconic flights like from Atlanta to Johannesburg, New York to Dubai, and even Lax to Sydney Australia. And those GE90s, oh man the best engine sound in the world, I'm happy you agree 3: 45 Thanks a lot for the video and cya in the sky! :D R. I. P 777-200 -1999-2020

About 01: 40 you indicate the retired aircraft will go to Victorville, CA. Did you mean Mojave, CA, where there are countless retired aircraft? I lived in the San Fernando Valley (a. k. s. the valley) for 25 years and made the drive on the 15 from the valley to Vegas many times, passing through Victorville. I never saw a plane parking lot. Near Mojave, there is a gigantic plane parking lot. Simply curious

I'll never forget the time I boarded a Delta 777-200LR from Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) to Tokyo-Narita (NRT, as it was part the long trek of my very first trip back to the Home Country of the Philippines. Everything you said about this holds true for so many us, and this iconic Aircraft meant so much. By far, this was the best looking out of the Boeing Fleet in my book and I absolutely miss it.

In 2015 DLs 777-200 LR brought me to Johannesburg SA for a 1 month long holiday/safari all over Southern Africa, I will sure miss this aircraft. On my return flight my bags were taken off the plane b/c full flight and max MTOW in hot and high conditions at JNB. Didnt matter Delta had my bags brought to my house the next night on the following days flight a promise made by Delta

Jeb, even though you filmed this nearly 2 years ago, I have to admit being surprised to learn the 777s will no longer be an option for travel via Delta. I've flown on these only twice before, but they were both pleasant flights. Are the A350s the alternative these days? That is from LAX to ATL and beyond?

This makes me so sad. Didn't realize. I flew on one from Chicago to London and we were on one of the first couple flights for the air craft. The service was great and the plane was awsome. My first and only time being in the uk. Thank you for sharing this.

Amazing video Jeb. You were able to capture all the beauty of flying on the 777. Never flew on DL but first time on a UA 777 back in '99, never felt the same about aviation after that! I just wish we could have heard the engine sound during takeoff: )

I have been around long enough to see the demise of the 707, 727, DC8, DC9, and now the 777. Very sad. I have a classmate fro HS who fle wthe F-4 in Nam, and thena Delta 777 Captain. H e retired at age 65 and sied shortly there after

All these iconic planes are fading out before I even have the opportunity to fly in one. a380, 777, and of course, the Queen herself, the 747. I really hope I can fly on at least one of these three but I don't travel often.
reply

This is so sad. Unfortunately I have a feeling the same will happen to the EL-AL 777s as they've been parked for 2 years now. Their website says they're getting refurbished but I have a feeling that's not the case.
reply

Wow surprisingly enough this was the going to be my first plane I was going to get on which was going to take me to my vacation in Florida too bad the pandemic happened before I even got a chance to ride this plane
reply

It is a shock that the 777s had to go. They were as fuel-efficient as one can ask for. And as much as we should give kudos to the pilot for his optimism on DL's future, unfortunately MNL will not be a part of it. :(
reply

To everyone - if you still want experience Deltas 777s, like their seats and interior, You will have to fly a charter airline or the Flag carrier Air India. Which still has interiors and the same seats delta has.

Just came back to this older video, all of the 200LR's are being converted to cargo for Fedex. 702DN just flew out of Victorville to be converted, so they'll live long lives serving the purple package eaters!

Holy cow sir, you make me feel old. Love the hot shoe take off. Thanks for the vid. (But. I've had 777x test planes over the house several times recently, maybe some are in Delta's future)

it's not every day when you're on a flight, you look to your left, and you see the CURVATURE OF THE EARTH OUTSIDE YOUR WINDOW
truly a powerful plane

My first international business class flight was on a B777 in a Delta One suite in 2019 MInneapolis to Tokyo Haneda. Sad to see it go so soon.

reply

Hey jeb, not sure if you heard but right now dl is bringing back jnb with the addition of cpt i believe march 26th or around that time
reply

You can see the curvature of the earth out your window!
Very capable aircraft, but what a disappointment that it's retired.

reply

Retiring the 777 was one of Delta's biggest mistakes but hey I'm no bean counter. the Scarbus 350 and 330 neo just don't compare
reply

Delta retiring those 777s was such a bad business move. Who throws away an 11 year old plane? Dumb move Delta. Just dumb.
reply

Given that delta is flying its even older 757 and 767's, I am a bit confused on why Delta is retiring the newer 777's
reply

Wait but I saw a delta 777 the last time I was at Hartsfield Jackson at the intl concourse after this video!
reply

Watching this video in 2022. These aircrafts are going to be used by Air India in the short to medium term.
reply

A350 is a thousand times better than the triple sevens. I'm glad they retired the Triple 7s not the 350s
