I flew once on that long pencil and did not like its landing. skiny and long does not seem easy to land. the 757 and 767 are match from 737 to 747 WITH 747 A LITTLE SMOOTHER LANDING. well give or take the 747 loads up to 450 Passengers macks - 737 90PRS 737-200 130PRS. SKINNY Seemed fast sharp but proved its not so much. THE AIR IS NOT THAT THICK. My head may be thicker than the air but thats beside a simple understanding about comfort in flying rights. lol Not sure about the air bus 380 in its Quiet take off and landing. i would think the upper Deck would have an elivated quieter take off seeting farther up from the Thrust of the engines. . a smooth landing as well be up away from the Landing Gere will help suck up the shock wave coming up through the air craft and of course seating aireas air eas hhmm make a jiff diff. TWA 747-800 Express in 1979 at 18 years of age Was my best experience flight ever with stewards and stewardess were kind loving gods Comparing today. well unless you Pay for it even the Personalities seemed more natural in a way. Frying on a Red and Wight Cloud From JFK 1 STOP Strait to Missoula montana and then Seattle. They were so kind and comforting and checked on me like a king of the clouds. WELL all most Fronteer air lines from portland to Missoula was a scary snow storm. landing was hard and they had fear in thier eys as i left the plain to stay for the next flight back. 737 fronteer to Missouri i picked up DC10 twa with a wide space but no upper Deck but still a very smooth flight back to NY. PEACE

The new SLC airport is not as ADA accessible as it could and could be? There should have been a tram system built not only from concourse to concourse but east and west up and down each concourse? If you are disabled they never took that into consideration from a disabled person's perspective? The new airport was designed for someone who is fully able-body and it is an overpriced art gallery not designed for many different forms of disabilities and accessibilities? If you are short on time and or battery power not only that but if you can't walk very far this airport is not a very healthy and safe place? At least the old airport had electric smart carts where the passenger assistance company in 1994 and 1995 MManTec then it became Prospect used to drive people around the airport but in this one, they don't even have that service? This airport blows and not in any good way at all. The airport director can't take any criticism without making a comeback video about the person and belittling them at the same time like a little 2 year ole? It would be nice to see a video on how inaccessible the airport really is and expose that?

I live just south of Salt Lake and I've been able to fly out of the new airport five or six times now. Each time I go to this airport, I find myself liking it less. If you're unfortunate enough to fly a Skywest regional get, so you have to board from the east end of the B gates, plan on a very long walk. Based on steps taken, it's nearly 3/4 of a mile - well over a kilometer for those not in the US.
Walk in for a departure, and you'll immediately fall in love. Check in, go downstairs, and see insufficient TSA checkpoints for the crowds. This is your first taste of inconvenience.
The concourses are beautiful, but plan on a ridiculously long walk. There is no legitimate reason why this airport does not have a train making a loop from the center of the A concourse to the east end, up to the east end of the B concourse, then circuiting to the west end of the B concourse, the west end of the A concourse, and center again.

As a fueler at SLC this new terminal is a mixed bag of much needed improvements as well as some minor drawbacks. The fueling system has been finicky ever since the B gates opened up. They allowed us to fit the fueling spots up on the A-gates to allow for easier and more efficient fueling operations. The B gates we weren't. Additionally the increase flow of traffic is amazing for pretty much everyone. It means we aren't trying to get small regional flights to Boise turned around in under 20 minutes because the pilots are about to time out. Not to mention the flexibility of ATC to be able to put large aircraft like 767's and a330's on multiple gates rather than the 3 or 4 they had before. One of the funniest things to see is sometimes the automated aircraft guide for posting at a gate doesn't work and the ground crew has to improvise in some pretty spectacular ways to communicate with some pilots

Salt Lake designed the airport to have the worst layout for travelers I have ever seen. It's got high ceilings and flashy new walls, but they didn't realize that they made it so that you have to walk at least a mile to the gate. The security is the worst I have seen in the country as well. The TSA there are either understaffed, incompetent, or just down right ignorant.
I got off the plane and it was literally a 25 minute walk to the baggage claim. That was on the moving walkways as well.
Maybe you should look at passenger motivations before you review. If you want to get your cardio in, or spend your time in a really expensive shopping mall all day, maybe it's a good design. But, if you want to get to your gate and travel easily this was the worst design I have ever seen.
They took a good airport and made it horrible.
I have spoken.

Jeb I wish your videos were a bit more realistic, and more critical. SLC is one of the least user-friendly airports in the country. The TSA checkpoint is madness, the lines are long and slow, and the TSA staff is rude on a good day and hostile on a bad day. Once through security, it's a long slog through the crowds to most of the gates. Elevators have no interior signage telling you where to find ticketing, baggage claim, etc. Check-in desks are understaffed, and there are no Priority Pass or Centurion lounges. Your excitement about shorter taxi times is premature. Construction on the tarmac means that aircraft taxi out towards the west then around the terminal and through the construction zone to reach runways on the east side of the terminal. I could go on, suffice it to say it's best avoided in favor of other western hubs for now.

I used to go a retreat up in the mountains about 45 minutes from SLC. I flew in on JetBlue which used to use the A concourse and yeah it was old but clean and A was the smallest of concourses it was nice because it wasn't a huge walk. The other thing that stood out was when I did have time to look q bit further into the airport, the commuter terminal for Delta was at the end of concourse B or C don't remember. always found that odd. usually they have their own concourse but you'd just walk the length of the concourse and then take a elevator of escalator down one level

I just had the displeasure of taking a round trip out of and back to the new SLC airport. This is the worst laid out airport I have ever been in anywhere in the world. It was not only me, there were dozens of people around me waiting and waiting and waiting for their bags also voicing the same complaints. It's a good thing they have so many emergency cardiac defibrillators all over the place they are going to need them for all the Seniors that can't make the 3/4 mile trek to the furthest gate. So much wasted space and poorly planned access.

I'm not a big fan of airports with multiple linear concourses connected by a train. For the most part, I'm able to fly almost all nonstop flights, so when I encounter airports like Denver or Atlanta, it's almost always my final destination. I can understand that these airports were built to serve the needs of connecting passengers, but its a bummer to have a 10-15 minute journey to the curbside, which includes a train ride before and after a flight. I much prefer airports like SFO with easy pedestrian access to the curbside from the gate.

This is certainly a very nice review and puts our airport in a very positive light. However I did not find my experience quite as thrilling. Ueber dropped me off on the lower level, but check in is on the upper level, then downstairs again to TSA lugging my checked bag and carry on. there seem to be viewer concessions and eating places. Getting to my B gate was quite a hike and didn't leave me much time to appreciate the canyons and other artwork! (conditioning for the mountains)

Great video once again! I connect through SLC for the first time next month en route to OGG. I've heard complaints that the terminal is so big it takes an inordinate amount of time to walk to your gate. The layout seems very similar to DTW but without a inside tram to whisk you across the main terminal. The placement of security on the far end also seems inefficient compared to a central point like at DTW. I still look forward to checking it out and thank you for this preview.

Oh My Gosh! Its SO EXCITING to walk into a brand new space. Right. You mean one that looks pretty much like every other white-on-white antiseptic airport terminal in the 21st century USofA? If this mindlessly bland space (which looks about as exciting as the nearly as new Harvey Milk terminal (which, color wise, is at least named thematically, which is to say, not very. It does beat the salmonella and despair look of so many of our aged terminals, but exciting, not.

I watched your video and was super excited to fly out of SLC. After going there twice now, (April and June) I am going to avoid that airport as much as I can. I'll fly a regional just to avoid the constant mistakes from the TSA here, the crazy walk from the terminal to the rental car, the pointless check in / luggage speration system, and the extreme lack of lounges.
All in all, not worth the headache. I'll switch airports until SLC improves

Thanks for the tour! From what I've read, SLC airport was designed with the needs of the airlines as a priority. If such is indeed the intention, this can help explain the frustrations many are experiencing (distance, signage. Hopefully, this new airport will adapt to and implement the principles of universal design so that it understands and meets the needs of all, if not most of, its end users which includes the passengers as well.

I flew from SLC Airport for the first time Monday may 15. I was sorely unimpressed w/the inefficiency of TSA! Because they're lines took over an hour ( they had ONE attendent, we were denied access to our plane. This caused us a 4-hr delay getting home. I missed a day of work and concert tickets for Rod Stewart! Noone wants to own responsibility for the$$ this caused not to mention added stress!

In a few weeks, I will be flying Delta on a connector flight, stopping in SLC at 10: 28AM. My connector, which is also Delta is scheduled to leave at 11: 00Am. That doesn't leave much time to find and get to my flight. My husband and I are not young and we both have health issues. Can transportation be arranged to get us to our 11: 00 AM flight? .

Looking forward to completion as it is currently a nightmare to take a small regional plane into this airport. They land in a huge parking lot and passengers board buses to the terminal. THEN you get the pleasure of walking at least a mile to your gate. Better have more than an hour to complete this nonsense or you WILL miss your connecting flight

We flew through SLC just this past May and it really was super nice. You are right, it reminded me of a mini- Denver, and not in a bad way. I'm used to Seatac, Portland International, Minneapolis, Detroit, etc. and the new SLC is arguably better. And don't forget the awesome Uinta Brewing Co brewery is just south of the airport.

Visited SLC last month; an absolutely functional, sleek marvel of a gateway airport for one most breathtaking parts of the country --- there is still some construction going on, and for what I heard and experienced, Delta passengers do much less walking since Delta flights arrive and depart at the concourse closer to the main terminal.

It is good to see the west coast out here getting big updates, Vegas, LAX, John Wayne, Salt Lake, SFO I think the last big problem is Seattle but the plan for an artificial island is going to cost a fortune and be the first one outside of Asia so it is a big deal but I read they are looking at 2050 so yeah we'll see.
reply

I am beginning to wonder if these regional hubs will be as important as they were before the pandemic. My best guess is they will, but with reduced passengers. SLC is credited for a new terminal strategy, but will it pay off? The numbers will be the ultimate answer, but may need to be filtered by lower passenger traffic.

I just flew into this airport from Seattle on Delta. I was in awestruck when I got off that plane. The concourse where the food court is located is jaw-dropping. Exiting out, you see all the art work in the main concourse area. Going back home, I flew on Southwest. This could be my favorite airport so far.

This new SLC terminal is incredibly reminiscent of DTW in my opinion, especially from some of the shots you took they nearly look identical. One could argue ATL as well but I havent had the chance to get a great look at ATL as my connections are always really tight through there, and they are at night

note: the bigger the building, the easier it gets to get it LEED Gold certified, also Gold standard ist just ok. not like extraordinary. Platinum is really worth mentioning.
pretty much all other new buildings have silver or Gold standard (at least if they care about this certificate); )

Ugh dont get me started about how terrible it is. Its very Utah to have it look okay, but be really unfinished with no communication about it except look how international it is stories on the news. I now feel like I cant fly because its basically abusive to locals. I guess I got started.

I liked the old one but the new one is fantastic. Feels like youre in a great big living room with great lighting and nice people. well-designed. comfortable. Flight from Denver and the contrast, ha ha night and day. I heard that the Denver airport is getting a facelift which is really good

Not #PDXcarpet, LOL! Look forward to you doing a review of the new PDX in 2025. In fact, I imagine your booked out for years doing these videos. Cant remember a time in my life seeing so many airport upgrades and expansions and thats just the US.

Worst airport ever. Took an hour to get from end of B terminal to the exit. And the bag claim is not on the same level as pickup. Which is fine if you just have one carryonbut not when you have skis or bikes or anything big.

This guy is probably a paid promoter, after walking two miles to get to your gate you forget about the artwork, and read some unbiased review of this monstrosity that probably was designed by a sadist.
