As somone who lives in Florida, I don't see this train working out. I live on the gulf coast in Port Charlotte. I'm in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area usually once a month. My wife loves the theme parks so I find myself in the Orlando area quite a bit too. I don't think the bright-line train is going to work out. Here in Florida we are a car society, everybody drives and everybody seemingly owns a car or truck. My first choice will always be to drive in my own car. Miami to West Palm Beach is just not that far of a trip so I can't see paying for a train ticket and waiting at the station and going through all that when I could just do it in an hour or so in my own car.
As for tourists, there are so many old people that come to Florida, I have nothing against the elderly, just stating a fact, they are all around me everyday being a Florida local. Many elderly people are not going to even be able to do bright-line because something like scanning your ticket on a smartphone would be more trouble than they want to deal with, and I can see some of our seasoned citizens not being able to do it at all. Plus West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami each have their own airport, so if I were traveling to South Florida from a different part of the country I would simply arrive into whichever airport is closest to where I'm going.
As for the Orlando leg of bright-line I don't see that working out either. Floridians who go to the theme parks usually fall into two groups, die-hard Disney fans who have season passes, go frequently, pretty much all seem to drive their own car, heck season passes at Disney come with a bumper sticker stating that you're a season pass holder. I would say the bulk, certainly not all but many, of the Disney season pass holders live within an hour or two of Orlando anyway so a train from South Florida would be completely useless. You see way more Disney passholder bumper stickers within an hour or two of Orlando than any other part of the state. As for the other group of Floridians that typically goes to the theme parks is families with kids. I don't think the train would make sense for them either. Wouldn't it be so much easier to just load the kids in the car and drive directly to the park then bring everyone to the train station go through the boarding process take the train, arrive on the other end and somehow have to get from the train station to the park, then your hotel choices are limited because you can't just hop in the car and drive to a hotel 10 or 15 minutes away from the park, you're forced to either stay in the park (WAY more expensive than the many hotel choices located just a few minutes away) or wherever you can get without a car. And I certainly don't think anybody's going to take the train from South Florida to Orlando to rent a car in Orlando, when they could have just driven their own car for the entire journey.
As someone who lives and works here in Florida year-round, I think bright-line is a silly and ill-conceived idea

Not the nicest train in the USA. In Southern Florida it is considered a commuter train. It is geared towards round trip ticketing. I recently was in Fort Lauderdale and wanted to go to Miami one way so I could get to the airport with my final US destination being JFK Airport. Ever since I made my Eagle Scout in 1976, I have carried a Buck Knife Model 110 with very few exceptions. I packed my knife in my checked luggage. It was scanned and I was told that I could not have it in either checked or carry on luggage. I was dumbfounded. I hadn't paid for the ticket yet fortunately so I took my baggage and left the station bewildered. I am not going to leave a 50 year-old knive in Fort Lauderdale. I have checked-in the knive on every major airlines, other commuter trains, Greyhound Bus, and even got it through customs Heathrow Airport as it is legal in the UK. No problem with crossing either the Canadian or Mexico border. I declare it and say it is for camping as I am a camper and hiker. I don't usually stay in a hotel. I ended up catching a Greyhound bus. Got Miami quicker and cheaper. I emailed Brightline Customer Service and never got a response. Will never recommend the Brightline to anyone.

Great video Jeb! As a frequent Brightline rider, I disagree with you about your rating of about 4. 2. I'd give it a 5 out of 5. The place is impeccable. The seats are beautiful and comfortable. Same as the other categories. Where I'd put a needs improvement is in their app/website and general customer service area. They don't have their act together on that aspect just yet. Their customer service phone line is practically non-existent, as of 2022. But the traveling experience is impeccable. Thanks for sharing this with the world. Just thought to add my 2 cents. And yes, I look for every opportunity to travel via the Brightline.

Yall all commenting nice things about this train but as a tourist I was SHOCKED at the speed of this train. It has already caused MANY fatalities and the numbers continue to rise! I think this train needs to be slowed down or kept from passing through small towns (example Delray Beach avenue) as people are drunk walking around in these towns! Great speed if it was set up next to a highway but should NOT be flying through these little streets where the speed limit is 30mph.

One major problem with Brightline is that there are no elevated portions of the rail. It causes many traffic issues in an already insanely annoying place to drive a car, and there are accidents happening all the time (collisions with cars on the tracks, etc. Other than that it is always great to have more rail transportation options but I just wish the government could subsidize the tickets to make them more affordable like say in Japan

Born and raised in the Brightline corridor, this should have been an L train from the start. Too many crossings on this congested route has resulted in too many deaths to date. The old timers like me aren't used to a train traveling at these speeds. The greater number of these fatalities are from elderly people walking across the track to buy groceries like they have been doing for 50 years or more. No way to remedy it now I suppose!

Sorry for the speed. If electrification was done, the train would be able to run faster. Germany's ICE-T (it can be introduced only after receiving budget support and electrification) or TCE-TD (diesel with tilting function can run quickly without the need for electrification) We hope that it will become a bright line that can run faster than before by introducing tilting trains such as the only diesel-powered high-speed train.

I love train travel but the problem like this in Florida is Florida is very dependent on their cars. For instance when I would go from NYC to DC it was great if you were staying in the actual heart of the city and could walk everywhere, but if you outside the city you probably have to Uber it. Miami is fine and Orlando is fine if you stay in a Disney resort and visit there but if you go to West Palm you probably need a car.

The Dutch proved, starting many decades ago, that if you offer people a better way to travel than by car, people will use it. Of course, Americans don't seem to be as rational in controlling their habits as the Dutch so we'll have to see how many people ultimately give up their (filthy) cars. But Brightline gets the Academy Award' for trying to emulate the Dutch example.

All these Dems and Trump supporters criticize DeSantis but he's the only governor to embrace high-speed rail in the US. For over half a century, the US has been behind Europe and Japan (and even China) on rail and here it is, the sole governor, to make it possible, if we keep this the US may finally become an actual developed first world nation.

Good to see that Bright line is trying to develop stations as commercial spaces
Like offices, malls, and paid parking.
The majority of the revenue needs to come from non ticket sources.
Otherwise the system will quickly fall into losses.
That's the Hong Kong model, I see that applied in Delhi where the stations are essentially malls

another thing for locals: if you ever want to go to a Miami Marlins and Heat games, they have a service called Home Runner and Buzzer beater respectively. for the marlins they have shuttles that will take you to/from Loan Depot Park. for the heat, they also have trains that wait until 30 min after the final buzzer

There is a Siemens train factory in South Sacramento, CA. Were these trains built there?
Privately owned service train in Florida is up and running also set to expand.
State owned CA high speed train to nowhere is way over budget and will probably never carry a passenger in my lifetime.

Are the BrightLine engines still Diesel or are they Electric? Nobody seems to talk about the what the train consists of. I could care less what the station looks like.
I still feel we are way behind Japan in Train passenger service and all their trains in Japan are Electric.

I will take a car and take in the scenery more and make stops at different places in florida in comfort and privacy no matter the public transit, but Brightline is really good for Disneyland, and taking children to disneyland or going there with friends etc to many amusement parks

It's nice that no taxpayer money was used for this project as it is totally privately funded. Let's hope this becomes a model for train travel all across the USA by removing government from the equation whether it is local, state, or federal.

Personally, I think this is great and I'm hoping Brightline keeps going north. If I could hop on the train in Jacksonville to go to Disney, or to catch a cruise out of Miami or Fort Lauderdale, I would. Amtrak is okay but this looks awesome.

6: 44. Pretty easy for a bathroom to be clean when there is virtually nobody in the train. The real challenge is to have the train full but still keep the place decent. That, s where the japanese train sustem is truly incredible.

Great video - I really hope Brightline takes off and puts pressure on Amtrak - love Amtrak in that its great to access the major cities on the East Coast - but its never on time and not very clean and the food sucks, sucks, sucks

Definitely will be using Brightline for our trip in May. Flying into Ft. Lauderdale for a cruise that departs out of Miami. After a long 5 and half hour red eye, this is a great option. Door to door service, yes please!

Yay Florida. Rick Scott tried to stop high speed rail he's an idiot. Florida of all states needs high speed rail mainly because it is a major tourist destination and so many moving here traffic is horrible so we need this.

I would use it. The couple of times Ive been in Florida I got reckless and disrespectful drivers. Even as pedestrians, we almost ran over by a motorcycle where he had the red light and we had the right of way.

Its cute that 125 mph is considered high speed. 125 mph is becoming the norm for conventional mail lines in Europe. The norm for High speed lines usually starts at 155 mph.
But hey, brightline is cute

You can thank a Republican Governor and legislature for the success of this train. Unlike the hugely funded disaster in Cali, they have dumped billions in their rail for years, and it will never open.

I am so excited for this service to be coming to Vegas! No more sitting in traffic on I-15 or dealing with all the ridiculousness of air travel just for a 45 minute flight to LA.

The Brightline service from Cocoa to Orlando will start around June 2023. Brightline is currently negotiating with the state of FL to extend service from Orlando to Tampa.

We need more of these types of rail services throughout the country. It will take more vehicles off the road and reduce the demand for gas. So gas prices will go down.

Do you know if their a station in Stuart / palm city area. Looking to travel from there to Hollywood and / or Miami. Moving there soon. Great video
