4hrs on the Worlds WORST Airline? (We liked it)

Ryanair has the reputation of being the world's worst short-haul airline. But is that really fair? Watch this video to see what its like to fly on Ryanair! This video will show you what it's like to have a budget travel experience on one of Europe's most prolific budget travel airlines. This low cost carrier has transformed Europe. Its made it possible to fly all over the continent (and beyond) for super low fares thanks to its bare-bones approach. Along the way, its earned a sometimes negative reputation. But maybe thats unfair. In this video, youll see exactly what its like onboard. Well highlight the ticket-buying process, what extras you may need to tack onto your fare, what its like onboard, the best seat in the house, and even the buy onboard menu. Despite our hours of research, we still made mistakes and had to make a last minute upgrade to our fare because of it. We also chose to share a bite onboard, but that also didnt go according to plan. Watch this video to avoid the mistakes we made!

I have never used Ryanair because of the amount of kit I have to fly with and being a man mountain, i dont relish the seats. Yes I can get a seat with leg room but my shoulders would be a problem for my seat neighbour. The time to get to the secondary airports also is a problem for me.
Having said that, I don't have an issue with their business model. You get what you pay for, and you can do it super cheap if you want to.
When looking at their prices, factor in the time to get to the airport they depart from and all of the plus plus costs and compare it to another airline that services the major airports. When I have, I have found that a legacy carrier is often around the same price so is more convenient to fly with.
Would love to try a day return flight with them, with almost no luggage just to see what they are like though.

Being British and loving a European city break I have flown Ryanair many times. They are a great airline occasionally ruined by a few of their customers. Because of the low prices and the destinations they serve you often get some undesirables or people who think they are getting Etihad service for $50.
The worst thing I have seen was on a trip to Dublin when everyone was having a few drinks and the plane was late departing so it got a bit rowdy in the bar. None of that's a problem, it often makes the trip more fun but in this instance we encountered a human being so dumb that he lit up a cigarette next to the plane while it was being fueled up and we all had to retreat while they dealt with him. To this day I still don't how anyone can be so boneheaded.

Like most other airlines, discount or not. When everything goes to plan it's generally a good experience where you get what you pay for. But when things goes wrong you understand why some airlines charge more than discount airlines, like Ryanair. Specially if it goes so bad that you are entitled to a compensation. Having tried to get the EU compensation I was entitled too, I can only say. My Ryanair flight was 3 in 1. First, Last and only.
On top of that, I'm surprised you rate overpriced microwave food that high. Specially considering you didn't get what you ordered. Too me it looks like your expectation where way low and therefore you could only be positively surprised by Ryanair.

in my humble opinion, ryanair is one of the best airlines thanks to its cheap prices. Back to the time I was in high school, it was a blessing that I could afford a flight throughout the EU paying an affordable price (i. e. EUR20, It was tough for the first time to get used to their policies regarding luggage etc. however after couple of flights I became proficient and started truly enjoying my flights. As a result, I've visited vast majority of EU states before my graduation. But Ryanair is not the only airline that served me so far, my sincere gratitude goes also to WizzAir (HQ in Hungary, which as well as R is cheap and in my opinion has better service.

You have class as a traveller, as do I.
I would never fly Ryanair or any of the low cost British airlines in all honesty. The UK is not set up to offer a finesse experience, whether with their hotels, transit systems, anything. The UK is quite backwards and has issues with customer service to boot.
My brother use to be an airline pilot for Ryanair. They use to and probably still do, treat their pilots and staff like rubbish. Go figure.
I in particular liked your review on the luxury train across Canada. You see that has finesse and finesse is not a word I describe how the British are, in anything.

you are the kind of person who loves being on camera, loves being the center of attention, did love being your mammies little boy getting all her attention and now are still looking for attention like a little boy, some males never do grow up, that is a norm in most Countries, does it not concern you that you are still a little boy, never grew up, still needing all that parental attention, you really need to see a psychiatrist to help you transit from the little boy to a man if it is not too late. yours All is not well

I took the same flight return 2 weeks ago. I knew what to expect either ryanair however both flights were delayed by 2 hrs. An hour on each flight was while we were sitting on the plane already. A lot of ryanair flights I took in the past couple of year have been delayed by 45mins or more and there not so much as a free bottle of water. Just an apology e-mail 2 days later. Apart from that you get what you pay for and I will use them again. Also the seats are terrible.

The problem with Ryanair, is how the company is fraudulent constructed, with bad contracts, and how they force airports to lower their taxes. The way they treat their employees, and take advantage of people from countries who are less fortunate. It's management by fear, and nothing good has ever come from that company, it ruined the whole industry in europe, and making it unsafe. People should really dive into how they treat people, and stop flying with them.

You got the full experience even down to the Ryanair landing haha. They do the firm landings because they often operate out of airports with short runways so need to do that to have sufficient space to slow down. They're no worse than their US equivalents Spirit and Frontier, though their fees for everything are on a level even beyond Spirit and Frontier (who are also notorious for lots of fees.

Ive flown Ryanair at least a dozen times (never paid for extra baggage) and was never given a hard time about my large backpack. Even though their official policies wouldnt allow it, most gate agents dont have a problem with it given that it will be able to fit under the seat. If youre flying out of Stanstead, they might be a little stricter given that Ryanair basically owns that airport.
reply

You don't have to print your ticket now. Get the RA app and your boarding pass will appear. You just scan it on arrival at the airport and at the gate. Follow the instructions, buy what you need, turn up on time, and don't expect luxury and you'll be fine. I've flown with RA lots of times, the latest trip just two weeks ago, and I've never had a problem.

6: 02 - Those bags are wider than 20 cm which is their limit. Most airlines allow 23-25 cm. This year we got pulled out of line with two similar bags at EDI and had to pay $180 to gate-check them, even though they would fit. Like speed limits in Europe, expect tighter tolerances and more, albeit inconsistent, enforcement than most US carriers.

Booked a flight from Helsinki to Rome for 11 people (all family) last summer and the total cost was 2100 euros both ways. I somehow missed checking-in online and realized it was two minutes past the online check-in time. I ended up paying 560 euros more and also had to deal with an extremely rude customer service agent

I've never understood why people complain about Ryanair. It's cheap, has the biggest network of flights in the EU and for almost 2 decandes of flying with them they have never been late/delayesd (well we had 1 emergancy landing, but that's noones fault. People these days would complain even if they flew a private jet.

Ive flown Ryanair when I lived in Europe. Its absolutely amazing and affordable airline. Very pleasant experience, would fly them again if I had chance. My favorite thing about Ryanair is that they fly too the smaller airports that still go too the surrounding areas of the big cities. I would recommend them too anyone
reply

Ryanair is great, you get exactly what you pay for, if you want an extra bag or an emergency exit row seat- you'll have to pay for it; that's how the low cost business model works- same as EZY, WZZ etc. If it wasn't for Ryanair a lot of families wouldn't be able to go on holiday every year
reply

Never been on Ryanair, usually go with Easyjet.
I'd definitely consider going with them now, certainly a lot better than that 1 time I went with FlyBe. A couple of delays and 2 cancellations, then I had to fly to a different city and get a taxi. Not surprised they went bankrupt.

reply

I would pick ryanair over easyjet any day of the week. i dont think any low cost airlines have IFE? I fly BA mostly these days however they are way more expensive that ryanir or EJ so im suprised you said they were cheaper on the day you booked albeit they were flying later.
reply

To be honest, I've probably flown ryanair 30+ times and I don't think they've ever checked the size of small carry ons. I have a relatively large rucksack and push it under the seat with out any problems. I don't think I've had any problems with them and they're very punctual too!
reply

I fly Ryanair so often! I travel in Europe and I've been able to book very cheap tickets, eg London Stansted to Gdansk Poland for 7 pounds, or last year Paphos Cyprus to Pisa Italy for 14 euros! Not very comfortable but just fine for short flights within Europe!
reply

I flew twice with Ryanair last year and both times it was a great experience. The crews were outstanding and the seats were comfortable. If I had taken Lufthansa, I would've paid four to five times more for the same. It's just how you prepare all and pre-book.
reply

It's like getting a bus or a train. Just make sure you've eaten before hand and bring your own device. most people get it. Don't have any significant luggage though, they'll seriously gouge you, that's their Gotcha moment.
reply

I flew Ryanair for the first just a few weeks ago keep in mind I didn't do any of the booking as it was an exchange but the flight experience was good and I got to fly on the max so the seats were very comfortable
reply

If you think of Ryanair flights as comfortable buses rather than amazing experiences, your expectations will be adjusted accordingly. I owe them a debt of gratitude for allowing me to explore Europe so cheaply.
reply

I dont see how getting the wrong meal you paid for could be worth 4 stars unless it was some wildly amazing meal lol which you didnt show us your face after your 1st bite so I think we know it wasnt great
reply

I've flown with them twice and have no issues with them at all. The worst thing I've experienced on the flight, is other passengers who were drinking alcohol on the flight like there was no tomorrow!
reply

As an American who has flown with Southwest Airlines all my life, I cant understand why Ryanair wouldnt emulate literally everything about them
Southwest is one of Americas most treasured companies

The smaller airports can be a bonus. I just got back from visiting family in Cornwall. If I'd used Heathrow, I'd have had a looong journey by road, but flying in to Bristol was a much better option.
reply

I flew Ryanair for the first time this summer, and had a very good experience! I just read the rules (which are very clearly stated) and there were no surprises. Check-in was a breeze.

I flew JetStar in Australia - 12kg limit on all bags, even with the fee - my bags were 14kg, so I literally had 3 layers of clothes on and my pockets filled with heavy items - ha.
