I have watched First Class seat reviews by other international travelers on non-North American airlines and this is not equivalent. Their videos of First Class have premium spirits - not Aviation gin (nothing against Aviation - I drink it but it's the cheapest gin I have. And a First Class 'best we treat customers' and they charge for wifi? I understand they are catering to American food tastes, but beer cheese soup? That's a far cry from caviar blinis. And the thought that they have cheap bagged snacks at the front for you to get yourself? First class they serve you plated appetizers and you don't have to go and fetch it yourself. the whole point of First class is premiere service. Imagine a fine restaurant telling diners to go up to a buffet and pick up their dessert themselves. And the meals are curated by Michelin star chefs. I could be wrong but that doesn't sound like beer cheese soup. Some of them have showers for First class passengers.
I think the reason why they are cancelling First Class is that people willing to pay for it on a regular basis realize that it's not First Class and fly other airlines when they can.

I fly Business Class weekly with AA. DFW is my hub, so I experience Flagship Lounge in DFW, ORD and MIA because I have the ever mysterious ConciergeKey status. The Flagship Lounges are decent for the most part. The eggs alone (for breakfast) are significantly better than the eggs in the Admirals Lounge. The other items in the self-serve food stations are also decent to good. They also have chefs making the odd meals (omelets, waffles, etc. Some of the travelers in Flagship Lounge are usually getting their drink on/lit post lunch and its kind of fun to people watch sometimes (especially at the Bloody Mary station. The servers generally do a great job and deserve more praise from some of the snobs in Flagship Lounge. Work wise, its subpar to the Admirals Lounge though. In flight, Business is either meh to decent/good. It all depends on the Flight Attendants. Some are super chill and happy to be there, others are phoning it in and have attitudes. I know their jobs arent easy dealing with humans, so I give them some grace.

After my premium economy options dwindled I flew 1st class to Asia from the US and returned on Business class. Due to the winds the return flight was two hours shorter which is why I did business on it. The objective was to see if the extra expense of 1st class was worth it. The staff would not leave me alone in 1st class and the yaw (auto pilot was correcting every 30 seconds causing an undamped yaw) of the aircraft got amplified because 1st class was at the front of the plane. I concluded that even if the price was the same I would never fly 1st class again (777) and never did.
If you need the flight attendants to stroke your ego then 1st is for you. If you just want to get a good eight hours of sleep lying comfortable then business will do.

Interesting. I flew first on American short flight for a simple reason-it was the same price as economy once bags were calculated in. However, it was nothing like that. No lounge, no special drinks, no lay flat and was 2x2. We got to choose our bag of snacks rather than have peanuts dropped in our lap, but no hot water for coffee. The seats were bigger, but seriously uncomfortable. Im all of 100 lbs and there was no padding-I was seated on metal. And finally, the entertainment was nonexistent. Id downloaded stuff on my phone fortunately. It was a short flight-TX to LAX. At least my bags were free! My one and only first class experience was 3rd rate.

lax terminal 5 is nothing great vs terminal 4. have flown jfk-lax and reverse on the a321t several times in first and it is hit or miss. televisions rarely work; thank goodness the fa's have been stellar, which we all know is also hit or miss. i prefer the mia-lax, j or f cabins when they used 777-300er's- more room, somewhat better /consistent service, only one hiccup when the pillows and blankets were not loaded and the cabins are consistently cold. 772's are whacky, as you never know which business class you will have because the seat maps are not loaded correctly whether all forward or with forward and rear facing seats.

It's nothing but a race to the bottom. Garbage airlines with garbage service. And why? To fly cheapo customers and clog up the skies with flying cattle cars. What a sad waste of effort. There's too many seats in the air, causing nothing but delays and misery. Pathetic. I fly at least 15 round trips a year, typically 35-40 segments. The behaviour on half the flights would lead one to believe he's sitting in the middle of frat party from the 1980's movie. No class. No style. No respect. Disgusting.

I've done this first-class check-in at LAX and really love it. The headphones for first class do the trick for me to help me sleep without turning on any audio on redeyes. I appreciated this video as I have a flight on a 321T and thought the exit was behind business class like a 777-300. I have a brief layover between JFK > MIA and moved to the first row to get out ASAP. I'll try the new shared lounges on a later flight with the same routing later this year but a more relaxing layover.

So international business class on a cross continent domestic flight. Flagship? Qantas A330 J BNE PER or MEL PER is incredibly similar but not not classified First. You are WAY too forgiving, especially about a lounge that even a mere Oneworld Sapphire can access. Worn out and non functional lounge, worn out and non functional seat? Did they even make your bed for you? NOT First Class. Theyre getting rid of it because no one buys it yeah, for good reason: its Subpar.

This is the real First Class under a traditional 3-Class Configration and rare to be seen in a narrow-body aircraft.
Clearly remembered I used 32. 5K AA Miles to get this first class seat in Jan. 2016, which was a beautiful memory and a lifetime experience. Unfortunately, AA miles devalued signifitantly after my redemption and I had the feeling I am unable to take it again.
Just remember, in most scenario of our life, first time is the last time.

Typical of American corporations. they take away any luxury they can for more profit. now flying is awful, not the exciting event it used to be. just cattle herded into a tube with no comfort. sit there and don't think you'll be treated with any luxury at all. soon you'll be charged for the bathroom. sounds crazy but it wouldn't surprise me. We are just average now. no class or standards at all. People shop in their PJ's. it's pathetic

I flew on an American flight from LAX to JFK and then to GIG in Rio. First plane was a A321TC and the next was a 777. Flights back were both 787s. They still have have 4 classes, main cabin, main cabin extra, premium economy (what business used to be, and then business class with lay flats. First really seems to have just become a marketing tool and isn't worth the added cost above business class anymore.

Uuuhh 2024? OK. I check AA flights every day and first class prices are available.
I cannot justify the additional expense for a 4 hour flight. I just buy Economy or main cabin and then upgrade my seats. If they offer me a first class upgrade when I check in, I will definitely accept it but that rarely happens.
Easy peasy.

The true attractiveness of the first class is exactly the flagship first dining, with lobster and premium steak, with value $150 in a Michelin restaurant outside. It was way better than the meal in-flight. However, after the shut-down of the flagship first dining, this fist class does not worth its price anymore.

All rather sad. First they changed their Frequent Flyer Program into a US Credit Card Program and now they are taking First out. There seems to be a rush to the bottom in Airlines these days. Just glad I got to experience the olden times when flying was really special. First Class on a TWA 747 200 or a Pan Am 747SP.

Took business from JFK to LAX last December, for 5-6 hours flight those first class seat really isn't necessary, and the food are the same; they can sell more seats if switch out those for the business class; and they ain't the true first class anyways, those are the old international business seat

So American Airlines is even doing away with their domestic transcontinental flagship first product? I thought only international first was changing to business suites? I've flown out of JFK to the west coast in flagship first a few times, the lounge and cabin experience never disappoint.

As far as I know, there's no such thing as US domestic 1st class.
Domestic 1st class = International Buisiness class. They probably want to rebrand it as business class (which is what this is, and allow for a more premium domestic 1st class experience in the future.

This is no surprise as Americans first class has long been the worst FC in the industry. I would never fly Americans FC and I now understand I was not alone. Im sure they dropped it because no one was willing to pay for it. American is is worst airline out there. Period.

Great video mate, interesting to see 4 classes being offered on a narrow body domestic flight. Ansett and Qantas used to offer first class domestically here in Australia when I first started in the industry (1995) but scrapped it at least 20 years ago.

There''s nothing more romantic than flying from NY to London for your HoneyMoon alone, by yourself in a cramped cubical (Like the ones at work. But, look at the bright side, now the share holders will be able to afford Real First Class on other carriers.

Flew first class as an upgrade once. Service was on a seriously tired MD-80. The seats in front of me looked like a dog had chewed on them. Beverage service was in a real glass, but same offerings as economy. I didnt expect much, and boy did they deliver.

What's the carbon footprint of a first class flights v. s regular seats? When we are facing major climate change tipping points and our planet has the potential to heat up 3 degrees in the next 80 years, do you think flying first class is fair or just?

I am only 12 years old, so I dont need a bigger seat and I think the business class seat it good for me. Also I cant drink adult beverage and the food is more fancy than I like. I really just like Hamburger and pizza and stuff like that.

Marketing, its aimed at business travelers, they think biz will more likely buy the tickets if there is no exotic names associated with it. It reminds me of AA referring to first class to the Caribbean as business class. Pathetic

American airline is the worst! Left me and my family stranded at LAX for a whole day recently. Strung us along by delaying the flight for four hours just to turn around and cancel it. Ill never fly with this company again.

Dude. If you're gonna spend all that money to go on first class, go on an International Carrier. Stop feeding these bogus US carriers and their laughable products. You're only making it worse by rewarding them!

I was hoping you'd take AA Flagship First on an international flight/widebody -- I haven't done that yet (always took BA F instead, and it has cool stuff like a rotating seat with desk.

Well, they are ending it late 2024, so perhaps this is a bit early? i actually prefer business class. the cubbies on this flight are a bit cramped, but that's a FirstWorldProblem/grump

Most of us forget about getting from point A to point B, that is the reason that we fly. If I can get there faster, safer and spend less time waiting at an airport life would be better.
