Watch this video to fly onboard Silver Airways Inaugural Flight from Greensboro, North Carolina to Nashville, Tennessee. Silver is a regional airline operating ATR-72 Turboprops from Florida, the Caribbean, and the Southeast United States. I was over-the-moon excited to grab a ticket for this service. I was even the first passenger to ever check-in with Silver Airways! Theres not a lot of services or features onboard, but well still explore them all. Well even give the experience a JebScore! We modified the Lounge score to better reflect an Economy Experience by focusing on the Ground Experience with things like boarding, communication, etc. Unfortunately, Suzanne couldnt join me on this trip, but shell be back soon!

Tried to fly Silver last week from TPA to FLL but the day before they cancelled our return trip and then without telling us they cancelled the whole reservation. Even though we checked in with boarding passes and got to the gate first. We were denied boarding as they tried to accommodate us but let everyone board and closed the door while we were standing there. Pretty bad customer service and no communication, while we were there at TPA two of their other flights were canceled at the same time so needless to say I wouldnt try flying them again. Ended up on a spirit flight for less money.

Im more curious as to how Silver decided to go with this strategy. Its far away from their original bases in Florida and Puerto Rico. It seems prohibitively expensive to start small operations in the area, even though GSO and BNA arent massive airports. The overhead for the route seems a bit strange from a dollars perspective. I dont know if they have a bigger network that they are planning to operate from either airport but I am very curious as to how they go about managing their expenses given their existing operations and network.

I grew up in Greensboro and had to move to Raleigh in '95 to be closer to an airport because I travelled for work. PTI is a great airport and I did my flight training there in the early '80's. GBO should have been equal to Charlotte but they waited way too long to build the new terminal and they lost a lot of time/traffic to Raleigh and Charlotte. Mostly I miss Piedmont Airlines. It was always nice getting on a flight after being in NYC or Boston for a week and having the flight attendants sound like home.

When I saw your video, I was really happy because I live in Orlando and it is a great no-thrills airline to go to the Bahamas and the Keys. With their great prices, I can make quick trips up to Greensboro and then drive to Charlotte to see my daughter. She used to live in Burlington and that would have been amazing! Hope they add Charlotte as a stop. Most importantly, Thank You for all of the awesome and informal videos you share with us!

Thats a pretty good looking porch they have in the terminal. It reminds me of the porch theyve built in the National Air & Space museum in Washington, D. C, showing you about the Wright brothers. That airplane youre on sorta looks like a Q400 a little, I think, primarily cause the propellers & you can see beneath the wings.

With the construction disaster CLT has become, its easier and faster for me to drive to Greensboro. I saw some idiots making fun of the airline and the water cannon salute. Some dont realize how substantial this is and how much it takes to operate such a complicated thing as an airline. Nice video.

Im glad you flew Silver. I was a pilot there for a long time and one of the first line pilots to get typed on the ATR there. Who were your flight attendants?
Its such a great airline. Very small, family and service oriented. Thank you for highlighting them. I hope you fly on them again!

Looking forward to your travelogue of the GSO-TPA route. Considering it will be the longest turboprop route in the US, and it takes off from your home airport; if thats not a Jeb Brooks video, I dont know what is. Plus your engineer wife probably has some interesting thoughts on TPAs design.

My first time booking them was a bad experience. Flight was canceled and I wasn't notified until I arrived in San Juan. Luckily the agent was able to rebook me on a later Cape Air flight. Would have preferred the ATR experience tho. I geuss now they are in Nashville I can try again.

4: 24 I live under one of the approach paths for Manchester airport and god dam this statement is true. We see several turboprop ATR72 arrivals on domestic flights from Scotland and Ireland and my god they are so loud. flying lawnmower which put the a380 to shame for ground noise.

I was working on that aircraft three months ago before begin service for Silver. Its funny that they were creative to dont repaint the aircraft. I go often to PTI or GSO to do inspections for Swift Air, any recommendations to do in Greensboro? Regards!
reply

GSO is my local airport and it really is that easy to fly from. The only gripe I have is when they cancel the Charlotte shuttle flights with AA. Sometimes I need to drive to Charlotte just so I do t have to wait 4 hours for my flight to GSO.

Flew from Atl to Greenbrier. Small but ok. On the return never could get a plane there. They ended up driving us, 7 of us, by taxi late at night to Roanoke. Put us on Delta for return to ATL. I understand they are no longer at ATL.

I seen this airline and similar planes fly over my house several times. It would be fun to fly that route one day and see my area from up their. Its cool to see the pink up there. They have pink and black planes too. Cool video.

As always, the content is much appreciated! Boarding a plane brings out the child in me every single time, never gets old! Flying to Boston from Texas in a few weeks and I am looking forward to it. Cheers from Texas.

I guess we all know where those Avianca ATRs went now huh?
Can we make a joke about this bird going from flying in Colombia to flying in Columbia? lol
I flew on this bird from MZL to BOG - that was a fun take off

I didnt know you were a Greensboro native. I grew up there and my dad was a big booster of PTI when he was working at the Daily News. Its nice to see the airport getting more use. It was a great place to grow up.

I watched that fly over my house. It struck me as unusual because of the double props. We're planning a Florida trip so this is interesting! Thanks for this. P. S. I've never flown before.

Worked with Silver Airways at Greenville (GSP. Mainly the ATR 42-600, although once in awhile the 72 would come. Loved it! For how small they are, they are so loud but easy to work with.

I saw the local news in Nashville post about this flight and I told my husband if you weren't on this flight I was going to be personally offended! Hahaha glad you were on it!

I like the Front Porch in the waiting area; 'lounge like' in a way, right? I've flown on this type of aircraft with Alaska Airlines before; nice machine.

It's amazing what a little bag of cookies or Chex mix will do for your tummy while flying. Sorry they got a zero on that one, but it was deserved.

Great job, guys! A transatlantic voyage is definitely on our bucket list. Oh, BTW. Dont let the crew hear you refer to this as a boat. Its a ship!

reply

Hi! Loved this video. Please add official closed captioning rather than the auto-generated. Makes a heck of a difference! Thank you!

That interior looked pretty beat up. Im surprised they didnt use one of their aircraft thats in better shape for an inaugural route.

They are really clever for working around the Avianca livery, i knew that looked familiar. Great little airline all around: D
reply

My favorite part of the plane is how they kept the Avianca livery and just added Silver decals instead of repainting the plane

Great video, Jeb. I live near PTI as well. I work at the FedEx hub at PTI. I love your videos. Keep up the excellent work.
