I really enjoyed seeing your adventure and can relate. I did not include national park sightseeing but by riding all the AMTRAK rail west of St. Louis it was my way to see The West. They were five weekend to weekend trips in the 2001 - 2013 range. I rode the Zephyr twice. At times, I had to take the next day's train but this allowed time to take a trolley tour to explore a city or just walk. It made good downtime off the train and used a hotel for an overnight. One trip included The Canadian back and forth between Vancouver and Jasper. I also had to use a bus combination at times and remember a time when a box meal was necessary due to a dining car problem. My wife went once but had trouble sleeping with a rocking passenger car and the horn blowing. I thought they were relaxing trips since I did not have to drive and liked looking out the Lounge Observation car windows.

Thank you for sharing this with us! I absolutely love Amtrak and would love to take this trip. We live on the east coast and have recently found the Auto train. I wouldn't want to travel any other way from Florida to Virginia. Unfortunately, for us it's a bit expensive to take a bedroom both ways so we only take the train to come back from vacation. We have had our share of Amtrak oopsies Our first trip we didn't have a chair either. I was vlogging the trip and watching it back, my obsession with no chair was hilarious to me. Seeing how you delt with it just brought back memories. LOL. As for the Two Wheel or Four Wheel Luggage. I would rather Four Wheel Luggage while my wife would rather the Two Wheel kind, Which If I'm not mistaken is the same as you guys. Anyway, I loved this relaxing Vlog. Thanks again, Matt

Stopped using Amtrak. Travelled in bedrooms several times on the Auto Train, and once on the Coast Starlight from LA to Seattle. The reason we stopped Repeated experience of terrible sewer smells on both lines. According to available media, Amtrak continues to have problems with the sewage holding tank vents located in the bedroom cars. And the missing chair in your room looks to us like par for the course for Amtrak. It's no wonder you emphasize the fresh air breaks.

I am truly grateful for your videos, especially this week. In a time when there is just so much negativity on social media sites, I love your honest but kind reviews, and your perspective on travel, and humanity. And btw, it is also much appreciated that you two genuinely seem to like being together. It is fun to join you as you navigate through your adventures with good will and grace. Well done.

Great video, really enjoyed your guys' personalities here, and nothing felt over the top or overacted. I was looking forward to a cost breakdown and was disappointed that wasn't included. Is that scheduled for the end of the trip Glad to see you guys had fun and tried out the cool tents. Toilets without doors are a no-go for me if I'm traveling with others. Thanks but no thanks, it's too much!

You can now generally buy meals in the dining car if you are riding in coach. Breakfast $20, lunch $25, dinner $45. No additional taxes though. I don't know if they expect tips but since room passengers aren't paying anything maybe they don't typically tip. I'm sure the servers are getting normal wages. There is also cafe stuff on the lower floor of the sightseeing car

I watched the video of your safari train trip in Africa and it was funny to see this trip after that one and see the drastic difference between the two trains and the food. Seeing the Amtrak train was such a big let down as well as how expensive the Amtrak trip was. It would be so wonderful if they had beautiful trains in the US.

Wonderful video showing some great scenery and illustrating what can happen on Amtrak--thank you!
9: 30 buying a peach--there is no peach better than one grown in Grand Junction! We live over 1, 000 miles away and celebrate the season when Colorado peaches are available--we go through at least 3 lugs (each has 40 peaches.

Mooning Amtrak passengers LOL! Be glad you weren't taking the Coast Starlight. you'd have seen a lot more than bare butts along some of the beaches in So. Cal. Hehe. Despite Amtrak glitches, the route to and through those states and parks was just so cool. Thanks, Jeb & Suzanne!

I love the views from the Amtrak Zephyr. We took it this past June from Emeryville to Denver. This video brought back some great memories. We experienced about a 3 hour delay, but on the flip side we got to see Salt Lake City in the daylight. You both have such great attitudes.

Jeb, I found you guys as an AA agent, which I still am. But honestly the best travel experience I have ever had was the California Zephyr and I wouldn't have even known about it without your videos. This video has given me another reason to ride the rails, thank you!

You are great ambassadors for America!
Me, I don't need persuading, but many others don't realise what's there or how safe and welcoming it can be. By the way I recently spoke with a Virgin crew leader in Scotland, who mentioned the two of you with high praise.

Jeb! Where do you get the time for this I know you can work remotely but how do you manage to keep up with everything while also making these videos, yet also having time to enjoy yourself on your adventures (especially with all the Amtrak delays)
reply

Hey Jeb and Suzanne thank you for sharing this with us. I am soooo glad you decided to go in depth and make it a multipart series. I was afraid it was going to be rushed like the other videos. thank you very much for covering this in depth.

While train travel isn't always perfect, I'm glad Jeb and wife are helping keep the heritage alive. It's really the best sightseeing mode of travel and is still relatively genteel compared to air travel and even SOME cruise lines.
Bravo.

My grandson and I took the westbound Zepher in June of 2024. Unforgettable trip. But Amtrak played the same game. Too hot in the kitchen. Boxed meals (sandwiches) for dinner. I wonder now if it is more common than not while on this trip.

Jeb, the amount of effort you put into your videos is always noticed. This is really incredible and it’s the type of thing that makes me want to show as much support as I can. Keep sharing these awesome experiences! It always lightens my day.

I had a weird religious couple try to convert me on Amtrak, in the observation car. I didn’t bite, and the next person apparently wasn’t as nice! We stopped at an intersection and the cops dragged them off! Don’t think Amtrak won’t!
reply

Amazing, looks like that wooden panel in your Under Canvas accommodation actually slides on those wheels along the rail to close off the bathroom. since there's an episode 2 I guess not discovering that wasn't terminal!

Go Mississippi! I love watching your videos, I always wanted to take a train ride to anywhere just to enjoy the view. I showed your videos to my husband and he is on board with my shenanigans now. Thanks Jeb and Suzanne!
