What an experience! This video inspired my wife and I to take the train trip from Fairbanks to Anchorage with a 2 night stop in Denali. We did Adventure Class for the 4 hour trip from Fairbanks to Denali. That experience was just fine for this shorter leg.
Gold Star was great. We enjoyed our lunch and dinner. It was fun being seated with two other people and talking to folks from other parts of the country.
We stayed near the Denali Park entrance at the Grand Denali Lodge. That hotel offers a free shuttle to the Denali depot, and I assume other hotels do the same and will bring you to the depot quite a while before the train departs. I recommend taking the short walk over to the Denali N. P. Visitor Center to kill some time while you wait for the train. There even some short walking trails through the forest to give you one last taste of wilderness before you hop the train.
The one thing that could be inproved was the baggage collection in Anchorage. It was slow getting all the bags unloaded and then very chaotic collecting them outside the depot. They could have done a better job explaining the process before so those poor baggage attendants don't have to be so stressed dealing with people trying to enter the baggage claim area before they were ready. Then, the process to get ground transportation is equally chaotic. There are only so many yellow cabs in Anchorage available to pick up fairs. We ended up waiting about 10 minutes gor our Lyft.

Was working in Anchorage area, 2010 and 2011. On my summer break, flew my wife from Tulsa to Anchorage. Spent a day in Anchorage, then took Gold Star service from Anchorage to Seward, spent a couple nights there, then Gold Star service back to Anchorage, spent the night there. The following morning took Gold Star Service to Denali, spent a couple of days there exploring the park, then Gold Stat service back to Anchorage, a couple of nights there, then back Tulsa via Delta. We were lucky and had great views of Denali going up, and the few days in the Park. On the way back, it was obscured on the way back. Folks, this is a fabulous trip to make, impeccable service on the train! I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants to see pristine Alaska wilderness!

I love your videos and particularly the rail excursions. I would love to see a video which highlights the best in accessible accommodations for the elderly/disabled traveler. Prefer train but any mode of transportation would be of interest. I love to travel but accessibility issues are preventing me from going.

That was totally awesome can't believe that Alaska is so beautiful and so big I didn't realize that it had railroad service so cool I wish I wish I had legs so I could see it I don't think you can get on the train with a power chair unbelievable so beautiful your videos are outstanding thank you so much

I have always wanted to take this train.
But when I am in Alaska i am all business (salmon fishing) wading 14-16 hrs a day.
This state is Americas greatest treasure and my retirement plan.

I would add: We continued on down to Seward and the Kenai Penninsula which was just as spectacular.

I was so surprised to find that Alaska has such a robust passenger rail network, larger than most other states. Some of it runs year-round, and caters to freight, tourists, and commuters alike.

Great report! We did the Gold Star service about 5 years ago as part of a cruise/ tour only we went in the opposite direction. The most fantastic train trip weve ever done. Good job.
