I flew this flight about every 4-5 weeks. They discontinued this non-stop for about the past year and added Newark as an option. They just resumed the non-stop to Dulles. Cons of the flight - First with United's new way of acquiring points for their mileage program, take-offs and landings are a key factor. Flight distance or total miles flown is irrelevant. Hawaii and Guam actually gets screwed with the new United points system. Second, I wish this was a Boeing 777-300ER that United flies. If you are solo you don't want to get stuck with a window Business Class (First Class) seat. The lie flat and you can get stuck if your aisle seat neighbor lies down, or you may need to wake up to let someone out. Definitely get the middle seat if solo. The 777-300ER has much better Business Class (First Class) seating. Pros - I do like departure and arrival times of 5PM depart and a 7AM arrival. You can do a good 9 hour red-eye and have a full day to work or play. If I am not rushed on my arrival time, I prefer the San Fran layover route. But it does add a couple extra hours.

Hi Jeb, next time you're in Hawaii, you should try flying on Mokulele Airlines from Kahului, Maui to Hana, Maui. very unique experience! And I love your videos, as always. I agree that UA should offer a second meal on this flight, for sure. However, I am scratching my head somewhat that you gave zero stars for the lounge. If it's going to be included in the Jebscore, then you should do whatever it takes to get access to the lounge so you can give it a fair rating. JMHO.

They absolutely should serve breakfast on a flight like that. Ive been on 2 long flights with United, sitting in economy on both. One going from Newark to Zurich on the 767-300 and I was served dinner that night after departure and then flew through the night and then was served a small snack before landing in Zurich. The other flight was on the 787-9 from Munich to Chicago. I was served Lunch and 2 small snacks on that 10 hour flight.

Are you familiar with Kaolo and Kapono Beamer's beautiful song 'Honolulu City Lights? ' United used to play it. Upon their night time Departures out of HNL. Back to the Mainland! It's beautiful and will bring you to tears as you make that awesome nocturnal climb out over Koko Head and Hawaii Kai.
'Each time Honolulu City Lights
Stir up memories in me!
Each time, Honolulu I
City Lights
Will bring me back again! '

I live in Hawaii, so I take a flight from Honolulu to the West Coast several times a year, and you are lucky to get ANY food service, at all unless you pay for it! But I don't fly first class, just coach. The US airlines are CHEAPSKATES!
It's nice when I am going to /from an overseas, and the company puts me on a Foriegn airline! Much better everything!

Looks pretty rubbish in terms of seating configuration. The middle row seats may have aisle access but they're awfully exposed, no privacy what so ever. And the window seats not having direct aisle access is very poor for first class. All in the name of squeezing more seats? For what they charge, I don't think this is worth the money.

US carriers are the bottom of the barrel when it comes to customer experience. A 9 hour flight in first class and you get no lounge, no alcohol service, and what amounts to one very mediocre bargain meal. International carriers have much better coach services. And united is probably the worst. I would rather swim to Hawaii than fly united.

Mr and Mrs Brooks we all appreciate your wonderful videos that you posting but the only one little complain or suggestion that I have is that every flight that you guys are taking is on the first class and business class. Majority of us are flying economy class. More videos about the economy class please.

I cant believe that you did not have lounge access with a first class ticket going to the mainland. United really needs to refocus their attention on the customer. Even though the crew seemed to be good the overall experience you had could have been a lot better! Im very disappointed with United.

Of the three major US airlines Delta is by far head and shoulders above American and United. It's not even close! From their points program, perks and in-flight entertainment and food offerings to the overall experience and cleanliness of the plane, Delta is superior by a wide margin.

This looks terrible. While all domestic USA carriers have horrible first and business classes, UAL has turned being terrible into an art. They often run out of food for first class passengers, and the planes are in decrepit condition (common for Boeing planes for domestic USA use.

Im from Honolulu, now living in Tucson. It was GREAT to see the airport. Some time listen to the pilot chatter in the middle of the country. Sometimes they figure nobody is listening by then and you hear done entertaining banter between the air traffic controllers and pilots.

Why does United have a nice decent lounge at HNL but Hawaiian Airlines does not? Both of Hawaiian's lounges at HNL feel more like dentist office waiting rooms. No views, no food beyond snacks and small confined rooms don't feel like an oasis. We'd rather stay in the terminal.

No breakfast, stained up pillow, and no access to lounge even with first class tickets. you were too nice in your grading sir. Hope coffee was at least offered? If not, I'm sure there would be some grumpy upset passengers on board. especially if I was!

We live in Hawaii, and Southwest was a blessing to have providing travel between islands with very affordable rates. Before they started, Hawaiian Airlines was the only carrier between islands, and they charged exorbitant prices!

Your voice is incredible. I feel like I'm watching a documentary. I need to take some voiceover classes to sound as great as you. Also, thanks for the review! I'm taking this type of plane to Germany next Summer.

For a 9-hour flight, it is almost shocking there is only one meal, even in first class. I wouldn't expect two full meals and a snack in between, but at least a sandwich or light breakfast before landing!

Southwest doing interisland flights is a HUGE breath of fresh air. Hawaiian has been price-gouging us ever since Aloha went belly up, so a little bit of competition by WN is very much welcome.

It sucks that UNITED first class won't allow access to lounge. I took flight with Air Canada Business class from Honolulu to YVR. Allowed me access to United Lounge. Weird. Fix it United.

Regarding food later in flight, can you not request food from the galley or walk there and help yourself? I'm used to Air NZ and Qantas offering this!

Not providing breakfast on this REALLY long flight is typical of United being 'pakay' (cheap. Nothing has changed, in decades. Too dumb to fail.

A second meal depends for me in your case on having access to a lounge at a connecting airport and enough time, to catch the connecting flight
