Awesome video. As always love the content you put out. As for any input if wanted. First and foremost ALWAYS notify someone anyone of your travels of departure and return dates/ times cause otherwise there will be NO search and rescue till weeks after it s too late. And for the mirror. Great source of id, best way to use a mirror peep hole or not is to keep the mirror by your face and extend your other hand with the pointer and middle finger around the target you want to hit (plane, hele, boat) and use the mirror to shine the light on your hand/ target. It s easier to see reflected light hitting your hand which is surrounding your target which in turn shines light on your target. I know I suck at explaining things but hope it helps.

On mobile phones - in the UK 999 is the standard emergency number. However 911 will also work. This is because a lot of tourists dial 911 in a panic. 112 is also an emergency number in the UK and EU.
Even if you have no service and need help try phoning 999. Just because your handset shows no service that doesn t mean it s true. Normally you only get coverage from your provider, this is what your phone shows you. however for a 999 call your phone can latch on to any provider s network. Further in this day and age it can even latch onto some satellite signals! This does cause some technical problems for emergency services so know your location.

Some great tips there, and as a former emergency rescue paramedic, I wish all people would go out this prepared: D
A small addition: even if you seem to have no reception on your cell phone, still try to call emergency services. Modern phones are programmed to send out a stronger signal than they normally allowed when emergency numbers are dialed. Also, if you don't have a gps on you, there are free apps available that can be used to dial emergency systems. Upon doing so, these apps also rely information such as your location data, any pre-entered medical information (blood type, useful medical data, ,. and can jumpstart a rescue attempt.

Very good advice for people to know.
IF you have acorns near by you can use the lid as a whistle. Make TWO fists touch the Fingernail digits together. TOUCH the TOP joints of your Thumbs together. The Thumbnail Joints at a 45 Degree angle. Place the Acorn Lid under your Thumbs with a small amount of the Lid showing. Place your LIPS on the Thumb Knuckle Joint and Tilt your Hands about 45 Degrees and Blow into the Lid. This works best with Acorn Lids that have no damage to the rims of the lids. On a large sized lid you can get 120 - 130 db whistle that can be heard up 1 mile or about 2 km away.

I have used my Garmin Inreach Mini for an SOS when I was run off the road in my Landcruiser and rolled down a ravine 8 times.
It is VERY situational. Bad weather and being in a valley of sorts, I didn't get signal.
Lucky for me I had a friend in his Landcruiser in front of me and he came back, thought I was a dead and then he went and got help.
It took 45 minutes to get a signal and that was when I was being driven to hospital.
The best thing you can do is let someone know where you're going and what time you're expected to be back.

Solid tips here. I have some of that reflective luminescent paracord. More for lines on a tent to not trip over them, but the idea of zipper pulls is one that I hadn't considered. Put them on the tent door and vent zippers too.
Edit: I also carry a 1mx1m bright orange nylon signal panel. I put grommets on each corner so it can be pegged down, clipped to your ruck, or used as a flag. It weighs nothing and packs in a small zip loc bag.

Forgotten was a dedicated strobe light. ACR include one when you buy their EBIRB. We sometimes use them when we are hunting away from camp but in the bush where we have to cross several creeks to get back to camp. Hang in a tree and their reflection can be seen from a fair distance. In an emergency you set on off at night and just leave it on. I carry one with me all the time when hunting.

I've been watching some documentaries about people lost in the wilderness, and in almost every case, if people had just stopped where they were when they realized they were lost or in distress, they would have been found alive. Remember S. T. O. P -- Stop Think Observe Plan. It's a good rubric for a lot of things in life, but especially for staying alive long enough to be found.

With the trouser buoyancy aid, it is important to keep the trouser legs wet. Obviously, the part of the legs that is touching the water will stay wet, but the top side usually sits out of the water and can dry out. By keeping them wet, you lengthen how long the buoyancy aid lasts before you need to refill it.

My old CAT phone had a SOS button which was amazing which worked in the same sort of way at you in reach bit you could set who got your emergency message, I had it back when I worked on quarries but luckily I never had to use it but the thermal camera was awesome on it and came in so handy

This happened to me during a 1 night camp where I had to leave in 4 am as my body temperature was getting to cold and I started showing symptoms of hyperthermia, luckily this was only in my garden in the wooded area. I am fine bow it only took about 1 hour to get my temperature back up

Mirror tip: Put your thumb near your target, then flash the reflected light over it, angling it towards the target. As long as your thumb is not actually over the target, it should be able to see your light.

I have heard that if you are lost in the woods and you need rescued the surest way to have someone come along is to start talking about politics, someone will be along to disagree with you shortly after.
