Episode 4: (SHELL)SICK
video description
I live in Europe and when I want to hike, I go all the way to places like Kyrgyzstan to find nature without the crowd and the huts/hotels/ski lifts.
We like what we like, and I think you like nature. Since we live only once and life is so short, why torture ourselves?
You did find positives and gave us some pretty images.
This will soon be over and you'll be back to doing what you like best.

Dixie/Montana. there's all kinds of camping: the thru hiking kind, glamping, RVs, and this thing, the el camino. Personally, the ONLY type of camping I want to do is. the thru hiking type. To get AWAY from most people and vestiges of society, purposefully. Except when I need supplies and a sliver of social. To have to hear the snores of others, in a communal room, etc. ISN'T what I'm into. because after-all, I HAVE to go thru that in my dad's RV, and I don't do it well! (I literally camp outside in a separate backpacker tent)

Culture shock hits all of us sooner or later; I had a crisis moment of not being able to handle the newness of everything pretty bad after moving across the atlantic to work, and I only had to shift from the USA to England! Not nearly as much to handle as the language barrier can be. It's good to acknowledge it, do something familiar, and then push on through. Really enjoying seeing your experience out of the country!

There'sa pilgrimage trail of sorts on the Japanese island of Shikoku. It's the Shikoku 88 temples. I think you'd find it fascinating and there are some very interesting insects in Japan as well as cheap hot springs to soak in at the end of the day. It would be culturally challenging although Japanese rural people are quite friendly and kind, but the scenery of Japan is really nice and did I mention those hot springs?

Hey Dixie, look at the bright side. You are tramping around a bit of Europe with your little kid sis. I can't see a problem with that. I also can't see a problem with a bed and hot shower at the end of each night of tramping/hiking. I get the snoring thing, as long as I am the big bad snorer, but that is the way it goes. So. keep the videos coming.

Two months into my first long-term travel, I got massively homesick and I was so depressed, just wanting to go home. I got home (still here, leaving Jan 13th 2020, and now I am just itching to leave haha. It's funny how once or twice you crave home, and then once you're there it's like 'oh okay I've had my fill, let's go'.

Dixie, love your videos, and while I love your honesty about your experience, also keep it in perspective. There are probably thousands of people in the world that would give their left eye to have the experience you're having. Yes, it can be frustrating (I've spent time overseas as well, it could be so much worse.

There was a guy that snored so loud in a hostel once that I picked up the end of his bed and dropped it just so that I could have 30 seconds of peace - nothing else would wake him #Idontevenfeelbadaboutit

I kept staring at the two different colors of your braided hair. I know you highlight your hair but never noticed the darker and beautiful hair growing out on your previous treks. Buen Camino
