Can Lexus Beat Acura At The 3-Row Game - 2024 Lexus TX Review & Comparison

The Lexus TX isn't quite the Lexus Minivan that some folks have been asking for, but it is the next best thing: a well-priced 3-row with TONS of room inside. The generous 3rd row, large cargo area, and of course the Lexus logo have propelled the TX from newbie to 2nd best seller in just a few months. Will the TX eclipse the sales leader from Acura I' not sure but I'd say it has a solid chance. But. Is it any good That's a different and trickier question because the TX is, in my humble opinion, the least Lexus that Lexus has ever built. But also: the hybrids are great, the price is right, and despite the recent recall it's still likely to be the most reliable in the segment.

I own this. The sport seats are the worst I've ever experienced (I also own a C8 corvette and love those sport seats. The bolsters are too narrow and are hard as a rock. This is the problem with these reviewers. The seat feels just a little snug but ok at first, but over time they are painful, and can cause spasms in my thigh. This guy gave them a 9/10, which is insane. I'm 6'1'' but very thin, yet, to me, its like a child's seat with hard plastic edges that my thighs rest on top of. The seat is fine for small thin people, but terrible for everyone else. The lumbar is also useless for tall people. Ruins the car. I regret buying it. Will have to get rid of it early and take a loss.

I own this very model of TX and my fuel economy is absolutely atrocious. I get about 17-18mpg in the city. If I drive 5-10 below the speed limit and become the slowest car on the road, I can push it to about 22mpg - and this in the Eco mode. 26 (or 28 as listed) is absolutely unachievable in my car. Interestingly enough, highway driving (80mph) gets me about 22-23mpg, which feels like not too unreasonable, considering the higher speeds. I'm starting to think I need to bring it to have this looked at. Alex, did you get those 26mpg driving like a grandma or was it just regular driving AAutoBuyersGuide

The interior is major let down for the TX. Doesn’t feel premium enough compared to Grand Highlander. Basically just third row power seats, little better leather, and some touch point in softer and more expensive stuff that you have to pay attention to notice. The larger screen isn’t really noticeable due to the button in GH become part of the screen. The good stuff is powertrain in the 500h plus but it’s expensive enough that the interior doesn’t look appropriate for the price tag. XC90 interior is better in most of the trims, also MDX. It’s a hard pass for us. Buy GRAND HIGHLANDER.

It's a newer model than mdx as Toyota watches success of mdx and improved on it, it's like black inventor made refrigerated trucks and personal air conditioning but over years both got improved, or black inventor of way elevator doors and safety got improved, or sprinkler systems, etc. point is, Toyota would be foolish to not improved things. However, something Toyota was not able to be as fun to drive or dynamic enough for me and why I still prefer the OG

Y’all are a bit over dramatic in the comments. Just because it’s not as competitive as others, doesn’t mean it’s actually bad. Also, no one will want to hear this, but if two vehicles are built in the same manufacturing plant, like the Grand Highlander and TX, multiple components will be shared among them. It’s why the Escalade has always been a fancy Tahoe, because they’re built alongside each other.

The success of vehicles like the Infiniti QX60, which is the vehicle that kept INfiniti from going under over the last 2-3 years, got Lexus to finally make this vehicle. Lexus has been dancing around the idea of doing a vehicle like this since 1995, and the HPX Concept. Making the Highlander as big, or bigger, than the competition, and making the GX more off-road focused, also bring this vehicle to market

I wonder what your favorite Toyota hater you are all too familiar with is going to say
I predicted the tx would be such a disappointment. And that’s exactly what happened. I’m getting pleasure by enjoying everyone’s disappointment
Suffice to say the TX is honest to goodness, the worst 3 row crossover in this segment. Any other 3 row you can think of is simply superior to both the TX and GH

I think this was the right play for Lexus.
The GX redesign was a great one, and the market does want, and need, a large Lexus Mommy-mobile.
They should be able to move 50k a year, and allow other vehicles like the RX and GX to be what they were menat to be, without trying compensate for what the market demands, a larger crossover

Saw this at the DC Autoshow. It’s not impressive in person. Really did feel like fifty shades of grey plastics in the interior. The issue with current generation of Lexus interiors is old Lexus interiors. If you are coming from a previous Lexus product, the newer TX, GX, all feel a substantial step down.

Lexus usually does a better job differentiating their products from their Toyota bases. But this TX is really just a GH Prime. That would be ok if it weren't so expensive. I'd pass on this and just get the Toyota. Gotta wait til they get a fix for the airbag problem though!

There really isn’t a bad 7 seater in class. MDX is still a great vehicle. TX is the new great vehicle. Sales are basically tied after 6 months.
TX has much more room, more power, way more torque, way more MPG and a V-6 plug in hybrid option.

reply

Not enough differentiation between Lexus and Toyota. Lexus mailed it in.
But should easily sell more than the MDX due to the availability of the hybrid and the interior space/rear air vents. Also the Lexus name should make this sell like hotcakes.

As a Kia EV9 owner, I'm not sure why this isn't in the comparison. Yeah, I know it's a Kia. but so far it sure seems more Lux than this thing, has better seating. faster 0-60.
Yeah, we need more comparisons of ICE to BEVs, honestly.

At $82k I don’t see any reason to choose the Lexus Grand Highlander over a GMC Acadia Denali for $66k, the Acadia is a better designed luxury SUV with better quality and materials. The technology comparisons are embarrassing for Lexus.

Slanted roofline hatch collect lots of dust & dirt, it's better to have a the Toyota Grand Highlander square look, much more practical. Never pick look over function like Lexus did in the RX350 slanted roofline.

Being that they named it the Texas, it would have to be large. I suspect that the interior is nicer than it appears. It's hard to distinguish different materials in a sea of mouse grey, especially in video.
reply

While this is a great looking crossover, It would’ve been nice to make it a bit more distinguishable from the Grand Highlander. The premium price just makes no sense to that of the Grand Highlander
reply

This and the Grand Highlander did poorly in a partial front end crash test and have actually been recalled id suggest buying anything else in this segment if u care about your families safety
reply

Lexus has lost its way, went to see it and interior is plain and extremely cheap looking, a sea of cheap plastic. Waiting to pick up my 2025 Acura Mdx type s and don't regret it a bit

One pet peeve of these reviews- 3 row vehicles with captains chairs enable 3rd row entry/exit through the middle. Much easier to do with child seats, even with children loaded.
