just drove one today and then this video is available later lol. Great job again Alex. Currently i have a Lucid Air Pure RWD. Awesome ride experience after you crawl into the car due to the low slung roof line. Once you are in the car it drives amazing. However, its far too long, feels long, feels wide which it is. The turning radius is crap and its difficult to park. Efficiency is Ok. Here in NJ with an extremely cold January and February, the numbers were in the low 3 area. Poor for a Lucid but great for other cars. I want something more SUV like and the Polestar fits the bill. Lucid trunk opening is small. Great length and seats fold flat but opening is too small. The Lucid handles EXTREMELY well and i have standard 19 inch P zero all seasons. All in all a fun car to drive. Have been waiting to see the new Gravity, but its massive in size both longer and wider than the Air which is too big anyway, so i am sure i will be passing on that no matter what the numbers are
Driving the Polestar you obviously sit higher which is nice. Seats are great. Positioning is great. Acceleration on a dual motor demo car (non performance pack) is fine. See no need for the performance. Car feels way lighter than it is as alex comments on. Handles a tick less than the Lucid and rides a bit more softer in comfort mode than the Lucid. In the mid mode its great. And braking is amazing compared to Lucid. Lucid brakes are poor if a sudden stop is needed. One pedal driving is equal on both
But what i am comparing this to is what Alex commented on. the Macan gas. The Macan EV surely will be a pleasure to drive, but lease numbers are astronomical, and i surely am not BUYING an EV. As it is, a Macan regular ICE turbo built with any kind of options is $75 and that is conservative. Many people will not even drive a base macan. I drove and priced a base Macan at $75K. The macan is certainly smooth but lacking a bit of power in base form. The ride, handling, and smoothness are elegant. Its quiet but enough engine noise if you get on it. Its an amazing Sport small SUV that will put a smile on your face everytime you get in it. Its a bit cramped if you are tall as the center console hits your right knee. Didnt love that but as the seat is pushed back it goes away for a taller driver. Lease numbers are high, out of pocket money is high. I will keep my Lucid (which i basically stole) for another 6 months until the lease is up. until i drove this 3
It truly is neck and neck with a gas Macan. The 3 is sleek and just different, So many Macans out there and no Polestars yet. And they drive so incredibly close (macan ICE base turbo) The 3 is roomier and i just like it more. And the people at Polestar Princeton NJ were so incredibly nice. I spent way too much time there talking with 3 different people on all aspects of the car. as well as the 4 which is there but no drives yet. I am waiting for lease numbers which are promised to be a little better than the factory numbers which will basically cut the Macan payment almost in half with not a ton of down money
I have no problem going back to an ICE car, and i was really considering a base macan. But this car, even with a lower range than my Lucid, is just as fun to drive as the Lucid or the macan. I found my test drive to be exactly as Alex has stated here. No twisty roads on my drive as he has shown, but that looks like fun in this car

I should like this vehicle. It looks good, drives and rides well, has an incredible sound system. but the overemphasis on minimalism kills it for me. I don't want to think about scrolling through menus for simple adjustments nor do I want to fuss with a keycard if my phone isn't on me. A $90k vehicle should not force compromises that those 1/4 the price nail by default. I really hope they walk back these terrible design decisions because despite the alleged separation of companies the same awful minimalist decisions have infected Volvo's newest vehicles.

Making it a variant of a Volvo would make more economical sense, but it wouldn't allow for the difference in styling. The 3 would have to look like an EX90, perhaps with a different front bumper and some details. I like that Polestar exists, even if it makes less sense. They are however going over to selling through Volvo dealerships now. In Sweden many Volvo dealerships now have Polestar as well, and this will continue throughout Europe and probably also the US.

I got to sit in the P4 and the P3 when I visited the showroom in Marin while visiting family, and the thing that I noticed the most was that the p4 had a very firm seat, almost uncomfortable to sit in while the P3 felt like it had much deeper bucket seats. Also like you mentioned in the infotainment section, just sitting in the car and trying to figure out the settings was a little confusing compared to Tesla, but I imagine if given more time I'd get it eventually.

The only issue I see on the outside is the one rear fog light. People who don't know about rear fog lights would just see the light on the left and wonder if the other one is already broken. I know the best solution is to not care about what others think, but in the USA it can be perceived as a quality problem unless they knew it was intentionally designed that way.

Almost bought this, but ended up with V60 Polestar Engineered. Things that turned me off Polestar 3: feels heavy dynamically, not enough range for such a big battery, too many cheap looking labels (somebody went crazy with the label maker, depreciates like a rock and too reliant on the iPad that is tacked on.

I relly liked the one I sat in the show room. I was glad to see they removed the floor hump in the 2nd row. However I decided against it since these higher cost evs just tank in value in the first couple years. I decided to just hold off and let someone else take the hit and pick on up second hand.

I have a Polestar 3! Love it but I agree even after the 1. 2. 6 update the software is still half baked compared to my Rivian R1T and my Model X (pre totaled. I have the performance one, fully loaded and it blows my model X out of the water, other than software.

Sorry about the rear headroom figure. We spent so much time going round and round the mulberry bush with Polestar on the legroom numbers that we never inserted the actual 2nd row headroom number, which is 39. 8 inches, just behind the Model X.

Really liked the addition of the night time headlight clip! Great visual for people that frequently drive at night. Would like to also see the taillights and reverse light brightness at night.

The range mode makes a huge difference in efficiency. I got to do a range test on a Polestar 3 with Aero Wheels and all season tires, and in range mode I got 350 miles!

As the owner of a Polestar 2, I love the way the chassis is tuned and want to see Polestar succeed, but their current corporate leadership does not give me faith.

Can confirm the seats/massage are amazing, I actually quite like their faux leather options (or the wool) and don't feel as if the leather upgrade is worth it.

EVs. Software can no longer be ignored. Tesla has mastered, the others need to figure it out, or fade away: . No longer just an expensive UAW assembly line.

I love that you included night time headlight shots. The huge lighting nerd in me always wonders what the output of each vehicle you review is like.

A little EV for a lot of moneyif I remember correctly, around $67, 000. Besides, this EV has a Chinese orgin, not a friendly country towards the US.

The Unfinished song on the screen made me chuckle. Alex chooses the best songs for each review and I like that he does that.
