If the rumor mill is right (and I hope it's not, this generation of BMW's roadster is set to end production in early 2026 and won't have a replacement. Whether or not we get a short-run 2026 model year or the 2025s just cling on until the bitter end, it sounds like this is the end of the road for BMW's long-running Z4. What's the deal Nobody is buying the most fun BMW around, and nobody-nobody is buying the most fun version that we tested: the one with the 3. 0L turbo engine and three pedals. Sad.

I enjoy manual transmission vehicles and find it does give me more engagement, but I live in a congested urban area, and driving a manual around here sucks so bad, especially in rush hour / traffic jams which increasingly seems to be most hours of the day, including weekends. It's nearly impossible to avoid riding the clutch or ending up with an uncomfortable left leg from constant shifting from neutral to 1st and back again. While I suffer through it on my motorcycle (no legal lane splitting here, I would never buy another daily driver manual transmission car unless I move. If I lived out in the exurbs / countryside like Alex or had the coin and garage space to own a garage queen that only came out for early morning weekend drives, it would be a much more compelling choice.

Why not compare it to the Corvette also A Stingray can be had in the Z4 price range more so that the Porsche or SL. As an owner of a 2016 C7, I agree with the front engine, long hood remarks. It’s just classic. BTW I own a 2025 X5, so yes I dig BMWs too. I have thought about trading the C7 for a Z4, and yes the B58 is great, but my dilemma is, it just doesn’t have the visceral feel and sound of a honking V8 nor the vibe of a Vette. But it is a no doubt a great car.

I once again enjoyed your review. I truly want this car but it just costs far too much for what would be for me a fair weather 3. 5 season car, plus the cost of insurance, as I; live in SE PA. However, I disagree with you about where Reverse should be since I think it is exactly where it makes most sense. With all 6 forward gears moving from left to right, moving immediately to the left for reverse to me has always been most logical.

I think Alex is saying the regular boxer 4 Boxster/Cayman sounds like Subaru, since Subaru doesn't have any flat-6 anymore. I am also guessing he said sound of inline 6 sounds better when compared to the flat 4. The NA 4. 0 from GT4/Spyder or the GTS sounds way more exotic and drive way more linear than the BMW B58 and I would choose that any time of the day. Don't even mention the GT4RS/SPYDER RS engines.

Regarding kidneys. The pictures you see in anatomy books are a kind of consensus choice. Among the major organs, they are the offer the most variety! One, three, and very rarely 4 are not that uncommon, as are a variety of shapes and sizes! Since the kidneys start as one and divide into, one of the most common varieties is the horseshoe kidney, where they attached by the lower pole

I have always wanted to test drive one, but the BMW dealership near me only gets one when someone special orders one. That means no test drives sadly. However, I saw your review today and by some miracle the BMW dealership near me has one that isn't spoken for because it was ordered with one option missing that the customer wanted. So, it is time to finally test drive one!

I’m a roadster fanatic and I’ve been fortunate enough to have owned quite a few. Triumph TR4A, Datsun Z’s, Mazda RX-7 vert, 981 Boxster, early Z 4’s, Jag F-typer R, etc. My Z4 M40i is my favorite all around sports car. Don’t have nor wanted the manual. Got over the idea that shifting gears was somehow directly connected to driving enjoyment years ago.

It's not a rumor. 2026 Z4 ends production February 2026. There is no replacement or other roadster in BMWs product pipeline. At that time, there will be no more BMW manual convertibles available. Will there ever be again
The next Supra will be pure Toyota, no BMW collaboration.

Hot take: The Z4M isn't needed when you have nearly 500 hp in a car of that size. On the other side, I don't think they can make that chassis both rigid and low weight enough to handle a lot more of power, unless they would release a non-convertible variant.

Still have my 2007 Z4 M after 18 years. Most non-exotic sports cars still struggle to beat 4. 5s 0-60 time after all these years with more power and more weight. I absolutely love my roadster on twisty roads and even open straightaways.
reply

I'm keeping the EV but my weekend fun car I'm saving up for will be hopefully something like a 1st gen 1 series convertible or a 2000s Z3 or 4, but the 128i convertible would probably be easier to live with
reply

This gen Z4's looks have grown on me, it looks much more striking and low slung in person. Don't think it looks better than the Supra on the outside but obviously has the nicer looking interior.
reply

Wonder why no one is buying the z4 manual Bc there aren’t many people who have $70k to spend on a weekend fun car and bc everything is so expensive right now and about to get even more expensive.

A subaru outback with the 3. 6 sounds like a porshe. It was the funniest thing watching car people look for a porshe when my buddy went to a car meet in a subaru
reply

They really need to bring back a Z4M model. Or give Toyota the authorization to give the Supra a more proper send off with the S58 and more M bits slapped on.
reply

Absolutely wild that this costs less than a Mustang GT. Just shows how wildly out of control Ford has gotten with pricing the Mustang GT
reply

The drive like an a-hole capability comes standard with every BMW and is the only reason why anyone would choose this over a Supra or Miata.
reply

You know car prices are high when the price of this Z4 seems reasonable not only as a BMW or a roadster, but as a car in general
reply

Yes, completely agree we need to have more fun, manual cars to choose from. But they need to be at a more affordable price point.
reply

Coming from an S2000 to the Z4, we were amazed by how much more storage there is in the Z4! There's even a real glove box!
