When the Maverick launched I couldn't understand who would buy this. My mindset was if you need a truck you buy a truck. Not a car/truck/man/bear/pig thing. Well I have since fallen and landed on my head and now realize Ford is brilliant and the Maverick really can be all things to most people and they have room to add PHEV and EV versions. Now I look at the Maverick and wonder why I didn't connect those dots much sooner when the price was lower. I think you can actually get Mavericks now as I see them in inventories at local dealers. I am actually considering getting a Hybrid version. Thanks for the video. If Ford doesn't price themselves out of the market this should continue to be a great selling vehicle for them. Not sure how the competition can be this lethargic and not step up to compete here. Ford still stands alone in this space. That is kinda mind boggling.

We crossed shopped vs the Santa Cruz. The perceived price difference was non existent. The Mavericks locally were still having $2k addendums in the form of forced paint protection and window tint. The Santa Cruz were 3000k off sticker About 33k out the door and included features that were pushing the price over 44k OTD in the Maverick. We were able to do extended test drives with both models and the unanimous decision was for the Santa Cruz, so much so that we ended up getting two (his/her) SEL Activity trim trucks. With some of the redresh upgrades the Maverick is becoming more competitive for our needs and taste, but it could really use an interior revamp badly.

US emission controls require trucks to be more fuel efficient and produce fewer emissions based on their smaller size. Increasing costs as the vehicle shrinks. Only the Ford 4cyl Hybrid engine makes this Maverick possible. This is the reason you don't see other compact trucks. That's why no one else has launched a true compact competitor at this price. The Honda Ridgeline isn't compact and costs more. The Hyundai Santa-Cruz also costs more. Don't expect the Maverick to remain affordable (or exist) for much longer if emission standards get even tighter. The US EPA is basically encouraging larger truck purchases.

Great review of the 2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid! The addition of AWD is a game-changer for this compact truck, giving it even more versatility without compromising its fantastic fuel efficiency. The towing capacity upgrade is impressive too, making it a solid choice for those who need a bit more muscle. I also love the tech upgrades, especially the large touchscreen and wireless connectivity. Overall, this seems like the perfect truck for anyone looking for practicality and modern features without going overboard. Definitely a smart buy!

I have always wondered how much ford had been making off the maverick especially when it actually had the low price. the fact that it has jumped as much as it does to me shows they were happy to initially limit production and take a profit hit until they raised the msrp once the public began to notice these. There is a very obvious reason why GM, Toyota, Ram, etc haven't entered this segment and why ford will continue to limit production which is too bad, would love to see GM and Toyota's answer.

I ordered a 2022 Maverick hybrid in July 2021. Received it in March of 22. Paid MSRP. Love it so far but it hasn't been perfect. Several minor recalls and the weird braking issue (which has been resolved. Previously, I had a Prius, but a truck better fits my life cycle. It is very useful! I live in the same area as where you reviewed the Maverick, so I was not interested in AWD, but most of the country doesn't have SOCAL weather so I am sure the AWD will be a very popular option elsewhere.

I bought a 2024 Ranger Lariat off the dealer lot last year. When I found out about the Maverick Lariat w AWD & hybrid, I placed an order for one. I still love my Ranger but the Maverick will have everything that I need from it! And, I traded in a 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz to get the Ranger. The DCT in the Santa Cruz isn't the best for going off road which I did with the Ranger this past winter. May 12th is the build date for my Maverick.

The Tremor model is the best looking model. Wish they'd offer the hybrid AWD with Tremor upgrades. Other than having to put a skid plate protection on the battery I'm not sure what's stopping them. Maybe the AWD system can't take the abuse in offroad testing but I doubt most people actually would take them offroad. I'd be fine with a Tremor appearance package with the lift, tires andtow hooks.

Alex - could you add information in the description about where you drove, what roads, etc, during this video I know you said you were in San Diego and I saw highway 94 but could not figure out where you were driving. If you can add it to any of your traveling videos like this, that would be fantastic, you seem to find interesting roads that would be fun to explore. Great video and thanks!

We have one on order. Waiting patiently. We opted for the Lariat hybrid AWD. Trying to convince my wife to trade in her 2021 Crosstrek for it, but if she doesn't go for it, I might part ways with my 2022 Prius PHEV. However, I'll be pretty irked if Ford comes out with a PHEV Maverick in a year or so and I jumped on this one.
Well done Ford. Great review Alex.

Really like this vehicle, but can’t help thinking the HVAC controls on the screen are a mistake.
They saved $5 for the pod of physical knobs and buttons, but now the user experience is way worse. I know where all the controls are in my 5 year old Ford by muscle memory, possible because there’s a physical button to go to.

It's no longer a good value. They don't make any sense. You can get a FAR better equipped Frontier for the same money. The gas mileage difference is nowhere near worth the cost. Ford dropped the ball on something great and everybody expected something like this.

I hope Ford stuffs the 2. 0T Hybrid from the new Nautilus into other cars. Actually it should be a performance/optional engine in cars like the Maverick, Mustangs, Bronco Sport etc. And standard or a base engine option in the Ranger, Expedition, etc.

No physical climate controls is a big miss from Ford, and is oddly going against industry trends. Otherwise, the Maverick is still a decent little truck and they should continue to sell in droves. (Unless tariffs throw a wrench into that)

I really wish they would put this powertrain in the Bronco Sport. I'd prefer that to my Subaru.
Also, this would be a perfect vehicle for about 75% of truck owners in the USA. More like 95% of those who don't tow or go off-road.

Overall, great review. Just one point -- I don't understand the push towards damped, or slow lowering, tailgates. The craze towards having doors opening for you and lower at the push of a button. It's a truck. well, kinda. : -)

$30k and Ford couldn't spend a few bucks on a tailgate damper, lit up sun visors, or fog lights It's not a trade-spec XL. It's sad that you have to go several trim levels and thousands of dollars up the range to get basic features.

Hi Alex. Curious how you think the AWD stacks up to Outlander PHEV in terms of capability. Offhand, it seems the Outlander has more power with a rear wheel bias, but the mechanical AWD of Maverick could be an advantage

Great review. I've got a 2022 Maverick Hybrid XLT in this same Hot Pepper Red. I'll probably move to an AWD Hybrid model in 2026 or 2027. Love mine and would love it more with AWD and the 4K towing package.
