2020 Toyota RAV4 TRD First Look

The latest generation of RAV4 brought serious changes to Toyotas most popular vehicle in America. Instead of just being the average on-road/soft-road CUV, Toyota created a model with a lifted suspension, more rugged AWD system and the look of a more serious off-road crossover. For 2020 they are building on this with a TRD package which adds more capable tires, suspension changes to handle rougher trails and even more go-anywhere styling. While the RAV is still not as capable as a Jeep Cherokee, its likely going to be less expensive, more reliable and more efficienct as well

Alex, This is another false dawn for the RAV4. When you first reviewed this generation in the Autumn you commented that the platform could easily handle more power. Here we are 3 months later with the debut of an even more aggressive RAV4 and yet we still dont get the muscle of Toyotas V6. The Jeep Cherokee will sleep comfortably again tonight. #AntiClimax

I have an 08 Rav4 and that thing has taken me off road at all the national parks in the Western US. Its a great little vehicle in fact I will be making videos about it coming up soon. If they have improved its off roading ability, then I look forward to that, when mine falls apart of course.

This heavier RAV4 does 0-60 in about 9 seconds. My Prius Prime does 0-60 in about 10 seconds. Lets put a racing badge on my Prius. Shame on you Toyota. For those that say this is more about off-road capability, Toyota themselves says the improvements listed here are only for use on small bumps.

I really think its a missed opportunity to not offer a bona fide TRD Pro model for this model year of the RAV 4. As you said it has one of the most capable off road systems in the compact crossover segment. Take it one step further Toyota and give this crossover the TRD Pro package.

Personally I think they should have taken it a step or 2 farther before giving it the TRD badge. If I was gonna get a Rav4 Id probably go with the adventure trim. That seems like a nice compromise. Although I would prefer a 4Runner if I had a place to have that kind of offroad fun.

1: 19 What on earth Toyota gonna save by not including the insulating pad on the hood. That will help to reduce the noise and vibration inside the cabin and I am willing to pay that 50 if they sell it as accessory

Way to dilute your branding. Atleast Ford has the right idea. An ST line for car based crossovers and Raptor for the real off roaders. I dont understand why they didnt just make this the new adventure trim.

Not an attractive vehicle, which can only make clearing last years design from dealers lots, very easy Just park the two beside each other and the sell makes itself.

Most people have commented the big complaints. This is silly. The wheels and tires look way way too small. But it needs the v6 to push a bigger package. Just. why?

Aside from the horrid color and douchebag wheels, both of which I assume can be unchecked, is there an option for skid plates at additional cost?
